Armenian President Armen Sarkissian urged boosting ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields.

In his meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Yerevan late on Sunday, Armenian president placed special emphasis on expanding cooperation between Yerevan and Tehran as well as taking advantage of existing capacities of the two countries in materialization of the relevant objectives.

The two sides called for expanding and developing bilateral relations between Tehran and Yerevan in various fields as well as cooperation of Iranian-Armenian community and Iranian expatriates.

For his part, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Seyed Kazem Sajjadi on behalf of Iranian government congratulated President Sarkissianon on his election and wished further success for him and his government.

In the meeting, the two sides also reviewed the latest developments between the two countries.

Sajjadi pointed to the political and amicable ties between the two countries and said, “Iran and Armenia are determined to develop their relations in all fields.”

Iranian ambassador to Yerevan referred to the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) inked recently between Iran and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan and assessed it as a suitable opportunity for promoting bilateral economic relations and also activation of Armenia’s Meghri Free Zone and Iranian Aras Free Zone. He also called for taking advantage of the capacity of Iranian Armenian community and Iranians residing overseas for investing in Iran and Armenia.

The Armenian president, for his part, pointed to the friendly and age-old relationship between Iran and Armenia and said, “Tehran and Yerevan should take advantage of existing capacities in line with strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation, especially in economic fields.”

He further called for direct cooperation between Iran and Armenia to attract more capitals for implementing projects in the two countries.
