The deputy commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Hossein Salami says the US wants Iranians to give in through economic pressures, adding Europe cannot free itself from US political subjugation.

Brigadier General Salami made the remarks in southeastern city of Zahedan in Sistan and Baluchistan Province on Thursday in reaction to Donald Trump announcement that the United States has started withdrawing from the nuclear deal with Iran.

“Today, we are in an economic war. On the one hand, the United States and Europe and their allies are seeking an economic embargo, and, on the other hand, poverty and economic problems are putting pressures on the country,” adding “we have to deal with these problems like a real war.”

“The US withdrawal from the JCPOA was just an excuse. Their real goal is Iranian nation’s surrender,” the IRGC deputy chief said, expressing his disappointment with diplomatic methods to save Iran’s economy.

Brigadier General Salami added that diplomacy cannot make a difference, calling for resistance economy as the only solution.

He emphasized that Europe cannot escape the US political subjugation, stressing that the experience has shown that Iran’s achievements have only been reached in fierce battles.

The IRGC deputy chief concluded “the enemy will never choose a military option against Iran, but they will opt for economic sanctions as their only option.”
