TEHRAN – Hamid Ali Samimi was elected as new President of Islamic Republic of Iran Sports Federation for the Disabled on Monday.

Iran’s Deputy Sports Minister Mohammad Reza Davarzani and Shahrokh Shahnazi, the National Olympic Committee Secretary General, attended the elections.

He will serve for four years as President after securing 24 out of 43 votes available in the elections held in Iran’s Sports Federation for the Disabled, located in Tehran.

Iraj Rahmani and Abbas Baghestani came second and third with 18 votes and one vote respectively.

Samimi replaced Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, who was in charge from 1981.

On Sunday, Khosravi Vafa remained as President of Iran’s National Paralympic Committee for another four years in the elections held in Iran’s Olympic Academy.

Before the Islamic Republic of Iran Revolution, Sports for the Disabled has been governed under the supervision of Medical Federation as an inactive committee. Iran Sports Federation for the Disabled was established after the glorious Islamic Revolution of Iran, in the latest 1979.
