The final statement of the OIC extraordinary summit of Istanbul was issued at the conclusion of the event on Wednesday.

The 48 member states of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) affirmed in the final statement that the international community should recognize the eastern al-Quds as the occupied capital of Palestine.

The final communique also condemned the US administration’s decision on the issue “unlawful”.

In the communique released, the UNSC has been asked to re-announce the status of the city and it has been underlined that if the UNSC does not undertake a concrete measures against the US President move , the case will be sent to the UN General Assembly.

Worth to mention was the point that Saudi king and crown prince refrained from attending the summit. UAE and Bahraini officials followed the Saudis not to attend the event.

Last week, Trump announced his decision — despite widespread opposition across the Middle East — to formally recognize al-quds (Jerusalem) as Israeli regime’s capital.
