TEHRAN – Khalu Mohammad-Qanbar Hormozi, a musician with Liva, a regional music band from the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan, died of a heart attack in Tehran on Tuesday.

The 88-year-old veteran passed out while performing on stage at Tehran’s Baran Theater on Monday night and was immediately taken to Firuzgar Hospital where he died the next day.

Khalu Mohammad was an expert on percussions, and was in Tehran with Liva to give performances during the Hormoz Art Week, which opened on Sunday.

Liva’s next performances were canceled following the death of the musician. He was transferred to Hormoz to be buried in his homeland.

Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi visited the Liva band at the Baran Theater on Tuesday to extend sympathy and condolences to the members.

Liva is one of the oldest bands from the city of Hormoz in Hormozgan Province.
