TEHRAN – Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Thursday called for further development of economic and social ties between Iran and Iraq, IRNA reported.

“Tehran-Baghdad relations should not be confined to security issues; rather, development of economic and social relations is essential.” Larijani said, in a meeting with visiting Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sports Abdul-Hussein Abdul Redha Abtaan.

Noting that Iraq has passed through security challenges, the parliament speaker said forging political consensus is one of the substantial issues in Iraq to prevent other countries’ adventurism.

He also lauded the Iraqi government in its fight against Daesh (ISIS).
