TEHRAN – Iranian cerebral palsy (CP) footballers have departed Tehran for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to participate in the 2017 Football 5-a-side Asian Championships.

Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia will play host to the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Football 5-a-side Asian Championships 2017, which will run from 9-18 December.

The event will be held in two groups with Group A comprising China, Japan and Thailand. Iran has been seeded against South Korea and Malaysia in Group B of the tournament.

Iran will look to defend their title from 2015 after defeating China on penalties in the final in Japan.

Iran’s hopes are pinned on Amir Pourrazavi, Behzad Zadaliasghar, Sadegh Rahimi, Mohammad Reza Mahaninasab, Hossein Rajabpour, Ahmadreza Shahhosseini, Saman Ojratdast, Rasoul Baseri, Meysam Shojaeian as well as Mehrdad abbasi who are headed by Javad Felfeli.

Organized by the Malaysian Blind Sports Association, the tournament will bring together the best teams around the region to compete for the title and book a slot at next year’s World Championships in Madrid, Spain.

The seventh edition of these Asian Championships will be held at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
