TEHRAN– Iranian deputy minister of health stressed the necessity of facilitating the process of applying for international patents for Iranian inventions and said “at present, 10% of Iranian inventions have obtained patents.”

Deputy Health Minister Reza Malekzadeh attended a workshop on the management of intellectual property and the industrialization of technology for managers and said “although new inventions are made in Iran every day, obtaining international patents proves a major obstacle for inventors.”

Having stressed the necessity of facilitating the process of applying for international patents for Iranian inventions, Dr. Reza Malekzadeh said “at present, less than 10% of Iranian inventions obtain patents.”

“Although it is possible to obtain patents for inventions, the high costs of applying for patents and the lack of a system that can facilitate the application process are serious problems that need to be dealt with,” he added.

Asserting that Iran can only acquire a high status in the field of innovation and inventions when we can obtain international patents, Malekzadeh said “stem cells, biotechnology, nanotechnology, pharmacy, genetic engineering and medical equipment are the areas in which inventions have been made.”
