In meeting Thursday with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei has called on neighboring Iraq to remain vigilant in the face of American plots, warning that the US is not trustworthy.
He also voiced Iran’s support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to develop ties with regional states, and noted the unity of the various ethnic groups and the support of the government of Iraq for the popular forces and the brave and faithful Iraqi youth was the root cause of recent victories against the terrorists and their sponsors.
Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized Iran’s support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to develop relations with neighboring and regional countries and said “however, you must be careful about the American deceptions and never trust them.”
“The Americans created ISIL themselves, and now that the terrorists have been defeated by the Iraqi government and people, they pretend to be supportive of this important development; they will undoubtedly not hesitate to harm Iraq again if they find the opportunity,” he underlined.
In the meeting attended also by First VP Es’hagh Jahangiri, the Iraqi prime minister, referring to the efforts of the Iraqi people to maintain the unity and territorial integrity of their country, said “we will safeguard the unity and integrity of Iraq and, as before we said to our brothers in Kurdistan Region, we will never allow the country to be threatened with disintegration.”
