Accomplished Iranian writer Houshang Moradi-Kermani has been introduced as Iran’s nominee for the 2018 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) Swedish literary prize, by the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults.
According to ALMA officials, 235 candidates from 60 countries are vying for the award, the largest children’s literature award in the world, ISNA reported. Moradi-Kermani, 72, is known for his children and young adult stories.
His most famous books are ‘Tales of Majid’, ‘The Boot’, ‘Cucumber’s End’, ‘The Vat’ and ‘Believe It or Not’ (an autobiography).
Some of his books have been translated into English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Arabic and Armenian.
As a luminary children’s writer, he was a finalist in the International Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2014.
Administered by the Swedish National Council for Cultural Affairs, the award was established in 2002 to commemorate Swedish writer Astrid Anna Emilia Lindgren and to promote children’s and youth literature from around the world.
Lindgren (1907–2002), fiction and screenplay writer, was the world’s 25th most translated author whose works have sold over 140 million copies worldwide.
She is best known for children’s book series ‘Pippi Longstocking’ and her fantasy novel ‘The Brothers Lionheart’.
