Iran, Afghanistan Sign MoU on Trade Cooperation

TEHRAN – Iran and Afghanistan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Saturday to expand their bilateral trade cooperation.

The document was signed in Washington between Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Massoud Karbasian and Afghanistan’s Finance Minister Eklil Ahmad Hakimi.

Mohammad Khazaei, the head of the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran, and Hossein Mirshojaeian, the deputy finance and economic affairs minister, were also present at the signing ceremony.

The two sides further discussed ways to boost their cooperation in the fields of customs, banking, taxation, and economy.

During the meeting, the Afghan side also signed an initial agreement with Iran on the purchase of oil products, cement, and steel.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Karbasian has traveled to Washington, DC, to attend the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).
