TEHRAN — Iran’s first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) is now providing the costumers with communication services, IRIB reported on Saturday.

MVNO, or virtual network operator (VNO), or mobile other licensed operator (MOLO), is a wireless communications services provider that does not own the wireless network infrastructure over which it provides services to its customers.

An MVNO enters into a business agreement with a mobile network operator to obtain bulk access to network services at wholesale rates, then sets retail prices independently.

Currently, three major mobile network operators are up and running in Iran and 83 users are being provided with communication services, Arash Karim-Beigi, the CEO of Iran’s first MVNO said.

To date, 51 companies have applied for receiving MVNO permits, however, only 25 managed to obtain the required permits, Karim-Beigi added.
