TEHRAN  – An Iranian cleric called on the Muslim governments to join hands to ensure peace and security in the Islamic world and counter the divisive plots hatched by enemies.

In an address to Muslim worshippers attending the Eid al-Adha prayers in Tehran on Friday, Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani called for joint efforts by the Islamic governments to combat the conflicts, bloodshed, and economic woes in the Muslim world.

Blaming the Islamic world’s problems on the global arrogance and the Zionists, the cleric said the enemies are trying to damage Muslim unity.

The Muslim intelligentsia, authors and intellectuals should safeguard the Islamic world’s interests, he underlined, saying the annual Hajj pilgrimage provides a good opportunity to enlighten the public on the hostile measures by the Zionists and their mercenaries.

In a message on the occasion of the Hajj season on Thursday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei also described Hajj as a cure for grave maladies the Muslim Ummah is suffering from, including those caused by materialism and by the system of domination.

On Friday, Muslim worshippers took part in countrywide prayers in Iran on the festive occasion of Eid al-Adha, which marks the end of the Hajj season.

In the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Adha occurs on the 10th day of the Dhu al-Hijjah. It marks the willingness of Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismail on God’s command.

Faithful across the world have marked the festival, which comes as the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia draws to a close.
