TEHRAN – In a congratulatory message to Vietnam on its National Day, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for the expansion of relations with the Southeast Asian nation in all fields.

In a Saturday message to President of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang, the Iranian president congratulated the Socialist Republic’s government and nation on the National Day.

Hailing the cordial ties between Tehran and Hanoi, President Rouhani expressed the hope that the efforts by the two countries’ officials would strengthen the political, economic and cultural relations.

Vietnam celebrates its National Day on September 2, commemorating the declaration of independence from France in 1945.

Vietnam and Iran established diplomatic relations in August 1973.

Vietnam was among the first countries to recognize the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
