TEHRAN  – Iran battled back from a 0-2 deficit to USA to win the match 3-2 (20-25, 17-25, 25-21, 27-25, 25-21, 15-12) at the Nippon Gaishi Hall at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Grand Champions Cup on Wednesday.

Milad Ebadipour, who was contained by USA in the first two sets, stepped up on offence and finished with 18 points. Amir Ghafour and Mohammadjavad Manavinezhad were among the Iranian players vital in comeback, scored 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Matthew Anderson and Taylor Sander made 17 points apiece on a losing effort.

Iran maintained its clean win-record, while USA dropped to 1-1 in the 2017 edition of the World Grand Champions Cup.

Iran, who has defeated Italy 3-2 in its first match, will face Brazil on Friday.

The 2017 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Grand Champions Cup is the 7th staging of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup, a quadrennial international men’s volleyball tournament organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).

The tournament is being held in Nagoya and Osaka, Japan on September 12 to 17, 2017, with the participation of 6 national teams.
