TEHRAN (Iran News) – In a debate expected to produce fireworks between front-runners Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, the two Democrats instead joined forces to blast the US President Donald Trump for not telling the truth on Iran.

The debate in Iowa began with questioning from CNN’s host Wolf Blitzer, questioning the judgments and qualifications of the Democrats on stage to become commander in chief of the American military. Blitzer’s line of inquiry appeared designed to get Sanders and Biden to rehearse their split on a vote to authorize the Iraq war, Rolling Stone reported.

But after some Pro-forma sparing between establishment favorite Biden and Sanders, the two Democrats delivered a united warning that Trump is making a dangerously dishonest case for the actions that have led America to the brink of all-out war with Iran.

Sanders took aim at Trump first, pivoting from the debate on past military judgment to impugn the motives of the current commander in chief when it comes to Iran: “Right now what I fear so much is that we have a president who is lying again,” Sanders said, “and could drag us into a war that is even worse than the war in Iraq.”

To hear Sanders, who has long argued against military adventurism, blasting Trump (whom he briefly referred to as “Bush”) on Iran was not surprising. More interesting, Biden took up Sanders’ line of argument and advanced it. He accused Trump of “flat out lying” about the alleged imminent threats to US embassies that Trump has used to justify the assassination of Iran’s Quds Force commander, Maj. General Qassem Soleimani.

Rolling Stone has examined the administration’s shifting claims about Trump’s claims of an imminent threat and found them lacking.

Sanders also made it clear that he disapproved of the move, warning that a war in Iran could be “even worse” than the wars in Vietnam and Iraq, which Sanders considers “the two great foreign policy disasters of our lifetimes,” The Week reported.

During the foreign policy-heavy opening stretch, Sanders and other candidates gave a shout out to Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) for being the lone voice to oppose the Authorization for Use of Military Force in Afghanistan in 2002, hinting that its repeal is a priority.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh gave some details about Iran Wednesday missile attack on a US base in Iraq and described the attack as just the beginning of “a major operation”.

“Iran missile attack on the most important base of the US in the form of an operation code-named ‘Martyr Soleimani’ was the start of a major operation that would continue throughout the region,” Brigadier General Hajizadeh said on Thursday.

“We did not aim to kill (anybody)” the top commander said, adding, “We intended to hit the enemy’s military machine.”

“We fired 13 missiles at the (US) bases in Iraq, although we had prepared several hundred missiles for launching,” he stated.

“We did not seek to kill anyone in this operation,” he said, adding, “However, tens of people were killed and wounded.”

“We could mount the operation in a way that 500 would be killed in the first step and, if they responded, in the second and third steps, their casualties would have reached 4,000 to 5,000,” Brigadier General Hajizadeh went on to say.

The remarks came as Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday targeted two US airbases in Iraq, including the Ain al-Assad in the western province of Anbar, in retaliation for the US assassination of the top Iranian anti-terror commander.

An informed source at the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said the IRGC’s missile attack on the US airbase of Ain al-Assad has killed at least 80 American forces.

“At least 104 targets from the positions of the Americans and their allies in the region have been identified, and if the Americans make any mistake again, those positions will be targeted,” the source warned.

The source also said that a number of American drones and helicopters and a large amount of military equipment were seriously damaged in the IRGC missile attack.

Fifteen missiles rained down on Ain al-Assad airbase, none of which were intercepted by the US army’s radar system, the source stated, adding that the accuracy and destructive power of the missiles have been so high that a number of the missiles annihilated several sensitive targets simultaneously each.

Syria has supported Islamic Republic’s right to respond to US aggression in light of the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and the second-in-command of Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

“The Syrian Arab Republic announces its full solidarity with the brotherly people of Iran in what they are facing, and it affirms Iran’s right to defend itself in the face of the US threats and attacks,” official news agency of Syria, SANA quoted an unnamed official source at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Wednesday. Iran News quotes report by PressTV.

“Syria at the same time holds the US administration responsible for all the developments that are taking shape due to the latter’s reckless policy and arrogant mentality. Such a policy governs US acts that could be best described as those of gangs rather than states,” the source pointed out.

He added Washington should learn how to abandon its approach of subjugation and attempts to impose its hegemony on others.

The Syrian foreign ministry concluded, “The Syrian Arab Republic affirms that free states reserve the right to respond to any act of aggression against them in whatever manner they find suitable.

“The US should learn how to give up its approach of subjugating others and imposing its hegemony. Syria reiterates that the US administration is the foremost entity responsible for the escalation of strife and turmoil in the region.”

On January 3, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad condoled Iran over the assassination of Lt. Gen. Soleimani, saying that the late commander’s support for Syria will always be remembered by the Syrian nation.

In a message to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Syrian president expressed his and “the Arab people of Syria’s warmest condolences” to the Leader and the Iranian nation.

Assad said the he would never forget Iran Lieutenant General Soleimani’s support for the Syrian Arab Army in defense of Syria and against terrorism and the US.

Describing the assassination of Soleimani as a “criminal act” serving “Zionist and imperialist designs,” Assad said his martyrdom would strengthen the will of the resistance axis.

Early on Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) targeted the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in Anbar province in western Iraq after launching a wave of attacks to retaliate the US assassination of Lt. Gen. Soleimani.

“Tens of surface-to-surface missiles” were fired at the strategic airbase and the attack was later confirmed by the US officials.

The IRGC has called for a complete withdrawal of US troops from the Arab country, asserting that it would not differentiate between the US and Israel in retaliating against the assassination of the Iranian national hero.

“We warn US allies providing bases for the [American] terrorist army… that any country serving as the origin of bellicose and aggressive attacks in any form against the Islamic Republic of Iran will be targeted,” read the IRGC statement.

The IRGC added that it would release more details about the strike.

The strike comes as no surprise since Iran had vowed to take a “harsh revenge” in the wake of the US terror attack that led to the martyrdom of Lt. Gen. Soleimani, the second-in-command of Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and their companions near Baghdad International Airport on January 3.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – President Hassan Rouhani says ending the presence of US in the region will be the “ultimate revenge” to be exacted on Washington by the regional nations.

President Rouhani was addressing a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday after Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) struck two US bases in Iraq in response to an American drone strike that assassinated Commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad on Friday.

“We believe that the US should receive its chief response from the nations of the region,” the Iranian president said. “They cut off dear General Soleimani’s hand in this atrocity. The revenge for this is for us to sever and cut off the US’s feet from this region.”

Among others killed in the drone, the airstrike was the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

Soon after the assassinations, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Washington was to face an ultimate and “harsh revenge” for the atrocity.

Early on Wednesday, the IRGC fired volleys of ballistic missiles at Ain al-Assad Airbase in the western Iraqi Anbar Province, and another outpost in Erbil, the capital of the semi-autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan, both of which housed US forces. There have been initial reports of casualties.

Rouhani said Washington would not be able to avoid the repercussions of the assassinations as the atrocity had “seared the hearts of hundreds of millions of freedom-seeking people in the world.”

Contrary to the US’s divisive intentions, Lt. Gen. Soleimani’s assassination strengthened the unity between the Iranian and Iraqi nations, President Rouhani said.

The first response the US was dealt with after the assassination manifested itself in the form of arduous millions-strong funeral processions held across Iran and Iraq for those martyred in the assassinations, the Iranian president said.

He also expressed gratitude for Iraq’s top Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani for condoling with Ayatollah Khamenei over Soleimani’s martyrdom.

He described the consolatory message as “a big slap on the mouth” of the US given the fact that the religious authority was a figure revered by Iraqis of all religious affiliations and ethnicities.

Warning to America

Rouhani pointed to a recent vote by the Iraqi parliament in favor of withdrawal of all US-led forces from the Arab country and said, “Through its courageous vote, the Iraqi parliament paved the way for the US’s eternal expulsion from Iraq, and, God willing, the region in the future.”

“Americans would be wise not to perpetrate any more atrocities at this juncture,” Rouhani said. However, he added, should they commit any such mistake, the Iranian people and Armed Forces are prepared for countermeasures.

He warned that another act of aggression by the US would be met with “a stronger response.”

The chief executive, meanwhile, denounced the US’s way of pinning attacks that target its interests in the region on what Washington calls “Iran’s proxy forces.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told a news briefing before departing to London that she would discuss the situation in the Middle East with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, according to Reuters.

“The use of weapons must stop now to give space for dialogue,” she told reporters after a meeting of her commissioners.

“We are called upon to do everything possible to rekindle talks. There cannot be enough of that. We have established and time-tested relations with many actors in the region and beyond to de-escalate the situation,” she said.

In the first step of hard revenge on the US over the assassination of Lt. General Soleimani Iran’s IRGC force fired tens of ballistic missiles at Ain Al-Assad base in Iraq. Ain al-Assad is an Iraqi airbase that the US terrorist forces are stationed there.

Earlier this week, regarding Trump threats to attack Iran cultural sites, Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO) Ali-Asghar Moonesan said that the US attack of Iran’s cultural heritage is ‘unlikely’ and said, “attacking cultural centers contravenes international resolutions.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iran parliament is considering an urgent motion in response to the terrorist assassination of the late commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Quds Force Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and his companions, including the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis by the US.

Asadollah Abbasi, a spokesman for the Iran parliament presiding board, said on Monday that the urgent motion will be put on the parliament’s agenda in the open session on Tuesday.

“In reaction to the recent terrorist and cowardly assassination of Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani and his companions by the US and as decided by the presiding board, the triple-urgency motion will be put on the agenda of the parliament’s open session,” Abbasi added.

The lawmaker noted that the Iranian parliament’s motion is in reaction to the adventurist measure taken by the US to martyr General Soleimani and his companions.

“The latest US action is viewed as ‘state-sponsored terrorism’ not only by the parliament’s presiding board but also by most world countries, and the ratification of the triple-urgency motion lends legal credit to this issue,” Abbasi said.

Meanwhile, Fereidoun Hasanvand, head of the parliament’s Energy Commission, commented on the preparation of the triple-urgency motion aimed at consolidating Iran’s Quds Force, saying, “It is for the first time in 40 years that a triple-urgency motion is brought up in the country.”

Hasanvand added, “Strengthening and sourcing the finances of the IRGC’ Quds Force are among the objectives of this triple-urgency motion.”

General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, as well as eight other people were assassinated when a US drone carried out an airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport early on Friday.

Both commanders were admired by Muslim nations for eliminating the US-sponsored Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

The US assassination has drawn a wave of condemnation from officials and movements throughout the world, and triggered huge public protests across the region.

Iran has warned that “harsh revenge” is waiting for the US.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The US-based Human Rights Watch said that Trump’s threat to attack important Iranian culture sites would be war crimes if carried out.

On Sunday, Human Rights Watch condemned the president’s latest threat to Iran’s culture sites.

“President Trump should publicly reverse his threats against Iran’s cultural property and make clear that he will not authorize nor order war crimes,” said Andrea Prasow, acting Washington director at Human Rights Watch. “The US Defense Department should publicly reaffirm its commitment to abide by the laws of war and comply only with lawful military orders.”

“Trump’s threat to attack Iran’s cultural heritage shows his callous disregard for the global rule of law. Whether refusing to condemn the brutal murder of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi or pardoning convicted war criminals, Trump has shown little respect for human rights as part of US foreign policy,” she added.

Targeting cultural sites with military action is considered a war crime under international law, including a UN Security Council resolution supported by the Trump administration in 2017 and the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property.

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump had threatened that the United States will target 52 sensitive cultural sites of the Islamic Republic of Iran in case Iran carried out its promised revenge over the US assassination of Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

Trump’s threat of Iran faced widespread condemnations both inside the outside the country but despite this, Trump repeated such threat yesterday.

The United States terrorist forces assassinated Lt. General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s pro-government Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) — better known as Hashd al-Sha’abi — in an airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport early on Friday.

“Threats made by Washington are out of their fear as they are afraid of Resistance Axis’ response to martyrdom of Gen.
