TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani has criticized the recently passed United Nations General Assembly resolution on the human rights situation in Iran, alleging that it is founded on blatant double standards.

He denounced the actions of specific Western countries in proposing and endorsing the resolution, asserting that this move “exemplifies a stark double standard and the cynical manipulation of human rights for dubious political objectives.”

Kanaani issued these remarks in a statement on Wednesday, following the adoption of a resolution titled “Situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran” in the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly. The resolution received support from 80 nations, faced opposition from 29, and had 65 abstentions.

The spokesman highlighted that certain Western nations led the resolution against Iran, all the while overlooking the war crimes and genocide committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza and the West Bank. “Some countries even openly and unconditionally supported the Israeli regime, despite its well-documented history of criminal acts. Adding a strange twist to the situation, the very same regime also ended up being one of the co-sponsors of the United Nation resolution against Iran,” he added.

Kanaani stressed that the alignment of the Zionist regime in proposing and endorsing a resolution on human rights situation in Iran amounts to a significant political and ethical embarrassment for the Western governments. He argued that this “not only diminishes the noble concept of human rights but also undermines the foundational philosophy of international institutions like the United Nations.”

The spokesman, while underscoring the resolution’s lack of legal validity and expressing outright rejection, asserted that “regimes with a well-documented history of systematic human rights violations, globally condemned for their reprehensible actions, lack the credibility to offer human rights recommendations to the government and people of Iran.”

Furthermore, Kanaani added that the Islamic Republic of Iran, operating under a system of “religious democracy,” has consistently demonstrated a sincere commitment to promoting human rights and fulfilling its international obligations. He stated, “The country is prepared to engage in constructive dialogue and cooperation to enhance the global status of human rights. Iran’s approach, grounded in elevated principles, embraces mutual respect, equality, justice, and fairness. It intentionally avoids political motives, utilizing all legitimate international mechanisms and fostering collaboration with other nations to strengthen and support human rights on a global scale.”

Assassinations, Sanctions Both Seek to Prevent Iran From Progress

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

TEHRAN – Head of the High Council for Human rights has said that the aim of the assassination of the Iranian elites and sanctions implemented against Iranians, is to prevent the Iranian nation from progress.

In an interview with Iran Press, Ali Baqeri Kani said: “The experience of the past four decades has shown that the pressures have imposed costs on Iranian people, but it cannot stop people from progressing.”

Ali Baqeri-Kani said that assassination and sanctions are two sides of the same coin against the Iranian people, which began during the Obama administration.

Baqeri-Kani referred to the martyrdom of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, head of the Research and Innovation Organization of the Ministry of Defense, adding that this crime is a continuation of Trump’s policy of maximum pressure, constituting the crippling pressure of the Obama’s era that was imposed on the Iranian nation.

The Judiciary official said that this policy has two prongs; one is the policy of sanctions imposed during the Obama’s era and targeted various areas related to the basic needs of the Iranian people, and that American officials even extended it to the medical equipment and medicine.

He added: “Of course that Western governments have committed crimes in other areas as well. When Obama was in the office, five Iranian nuclear scientists were assassinated.”

Baqeri-Kani said: “Of course, the assassination of Martyr Fakhrizadeh is exactly in the same direction, both assassination and sanctions to prevent the progress of the Iranian nation.”

“Sanctions impose pressure on Iran, but Iran does not stop progressing, and these crimes increase national awareness,” Baqeri-Kani noted.

The high ranking official urged the world to condemn the assassination of Martyr Mohsen Fakhrizadeh strongly and that these crimes should not go unanswered.

Baqeri Kani added that a rapporteur for the UN Human Rights Council prepared a report on the assassination of Martyr Qassem Soleimani and blamed the Americans, but unfortunately, he was forced to resign. Westerners behave in such a way that no dissenting voice is raised.

“We will correspond with UN officials and related institutions and ask them to condemn the assassination of Martyr Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, but the Westerners are acting in their own interests. For the past 12 years, the Zionists assassinated our nuclear scientists, and they did not condemn,” the official added.

He said: “The actions of the Westerners, which are paving the ground for the assassination, should be costly for them.”

“The silence of international authorities and the adoption of the double standard policy by international authorities means legitimizing terrorism,” he said.

Baqeri Kani added that the assassination was a terrorist act. Still, the West is reluctant to condemn such an act, and legitimizing terrorism is no less a crime than terrorism, and this is a fact, and terrorism is one of the tools of the US foreign policy.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Once again, enmity and hostility of some Western governments towards the Iranian nation was revealed and Iranian nation was punished by issuing a political resolution due to its practical commitments to fulfill its rights, protecting human dignity and defending rights of independent nations.

This time, UN Human Rights Council, which is a body established for the promotion of human rights and protection of rights of nations against the tyranny and oppression of arrogant and human rights violators, became a tool of political abuse of these countries.

The great nation of Islamic Iran has no doubts about the political abuse of the UN Human Rights Council by the Western governments, because despite the explicit disagreement of 64 countries and abstention vote of 32 countries as member states of the UN Human Rights Council, it was approved by the political decision of the Western governments.

The question of freedom-seeking people of the world especially the noble nation of Islamic Iran from the Western governments, as claimant of human rights, is that the occupying Zionist regime and invading Saudi regime should kill how many more Palestinian and Yemeni children in order to deserve a serious response from international human rights monitoring mechanisms? A country that has allowed sale of weapons in its own country for economic gain in order to have the highest number of murders with firearms. How long should black Americans be oppressed by the racist regime in the United States? To what extent should Iranian people lose lives of their beloved one due to the criminal US drug sanctions? The answer is very clear.

For this purpose, Iranian Parliament’s Human Rights and Citizenship Faction calls on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran to use all diplomatic capacities to take measures to prevent hostile actions by Western governments in the field of human rights and activate the legal and political capacities of independent countries to save human rights from the political domination of Western governments in international bodies.

According To Iran News, The UN human rights body will hold an urgent debate on allegations of “systemic racism, police brutality and violence against peaceful protests” in the United States on Wednesday.

According to a released statement, the decision by the UN Human Rights Council followed a request last week by Burkina Faso on behalf of African countries.

In the past recent weeks, the US Police have killed two people of color, George Floyd in Minneapolis and Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta.

Their death, a poignant reminder of repeated unjustifiable killings of members of the African-American community by the US police, has been followed by protests across the country.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in his live speech to the Iranian nation on June 3, said the “I can’t breathe” slogan used by the American people today is taking the words out of the mouth of all nations that the US has oppressed.

America is falling into disgrace due to their own behavior, he said, also pointing to American officials’ mismanagement of the coronavirus outbreak. Despite the fact that the US was infected with the virus later than others, US officials’ failed to use other countries’ experiences and the result was many times more fatalities, he said.

Despite all their crimes, Americans still pretend to back human rights, added the leader, noting “it is as if that black man was not a human”.

The American nation is feeling embarrassed for its government and they have the right to feel so, he said.

Judiciary Dismisses UN Rights Report on Prison Furloughs

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

TEHRAN – Judiciary spokesman dismissed as politically-motivated a United Nations human rights report that suggests Iranian prisoners face discrimination when it comes to receiving furloughs during a new coronavirus outbreak, saying Iran’s performance in dealing with the issue — compared to that of the West — has been “exemplary.”

“The Islamic Republic’s performance in both protecting the inmates’ health and prisons’ security and granting furloughs to them can be looked upon as an exemplary and outstanding model, “ Iran’s Judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili said Tuesday.

Esmaeli’s remarks came after UN human rights experts called for the immediate release of prisoners, including dual nationals and foreigners, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has hit Iran and other world states.

Judiciary Chief Hojjatoleslam Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi says Iran has temporarily released around 70,000 prisoners in order to prevent a further spread of the new coronavirus.

In a report released on Friday, UN experts, including the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, said the Islamic Republic should expand its temporary release of thousands of detainees, claiming that “Iran’s prisons have long-standing hygiene, overcrowding and healthcare problems.”

Esmaeli said that the UN experts would better report on what the United States, Britain and other European countries, where the coronavirus is more prevalent than in Iran, have done about their detainees.

“We have not seen any reports of furloughs or assistance to detainees from the countries” making such claims against Iran, he said, stressing that justice has been served and no distinction has been made among the inmates.

Ismaili said that Iran has recently furloughed more than 1,000 foreigners in order to prevent a further spread of the pandemic.

“We do not recognize dual citizenship, and our criteria for granting leave are the type of crime, the time served, the potential risks that an individual can pose to the society, and the eligibility to parole,” he added.

He went on to say that that the Judiciary is not seeking slogans and politicizing and looks at the implementation of civil rights as its practical duty.

Esmaeli said that Iran’s Judiciary has tried to turn the Corona threat into an opportunity.

“Despite the reduction of social and administrative activities due to the spreading of the Coronavirus, Iran’s Judiciary has managed to take important steps,” he added. 207

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Tehran rejected a political UN human rights resolution against Iran as a “politically motivated” instance of hypocrisy and “abuse” of UN mechanisms by Western governments targeting independent states.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi made the comments on Thursday shortly after the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly passed a Canada-drafted resolution criticizing Iran’s human rights record earlier in the day, Press TV reported.

Of a total number of 182 countries participating in the vote, 84 voted in favor of the political UN human rights resolution while 30 voted against it. Another 66 states abstained.

During the voting session, representatives from countries including Pakistan, Syria, Venezuela, and Belarus expressed opposition to the motion.

China and Russia also rejected the resolution as “politicization” of human rights issues while North Korea and Cuba described the vote as an excuse for destabilizing and pressuring other governments.

Double standards

Speaking on Thursday, Mousavi said that among the states backing the resolution were “governments with a long record in the systematic violation of human rights.”

The spokesman added that countries whose interventions in foreign countries and “their allies’ dictatorships and occupation” have left “bitter memories for people across the world” are “in no position to make human rights recommendations for Iran.”

“One of the main backers of this resolution, the United States, is violating the most basic rights of more than 83 million Iranian citizens by engaging in economic terrorism, specifically targeting women, children, seniors, and medical patients,” he said.

Mousavi highlighted that certain backers of the resolution, such as Israel and other “backward regimes” in the region, are guilty of killing the people of Palestine, Yemen and oppressing domestic dissidents.

The spokesman added that the Universal Periodic Review, a periodic review of the rights situation held on a rotational basis for all UN member states every three years, presented a suitable opportunity to evaluate the conduct of states far from any sort of discrimination.

“Iran, as a religious democracy, seeks to take steps in the betterment of human and citizen rights on a domestic, regional and international level within the framework of its constitutional and civil commitments and international undertakings,” he said.

Canada, under the heavy influence of Zionist interest groups, is known to regularly draft an anti-Iran resolution every year.

Tehran has in response highlighted that Ottawa itself has long been involved in a broad range of human rights abuses at home and elsewhere.

Canada has proceeded with its plans to supply Saudi Arabia with weapons in the past year despite human rights concerns regarding their use in the ongoing war on Yemen.

Canada has also been accused of a wide range of abuses targeting its aboriginal population.

The Saudi Interior Ministry recently issued a statement on the execution of 37 people in the Saudi Arabia. It has been claimed that the executed individuals were sentenced to death for involvement in terrorist cases.

The fact is that the executed people are not terrorists. They were Shias who have been oppressed by the Saudi regime for decades. This is not the first time that the Saudi regime has committed such terrible crimes against Shias, and it is clear that it won’t be the last.

Accordingly, Mehr News Agency interviewed Dr. Haitham Abu Said, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Middle East and Secretary General of the European Organization for security and information as follows.

What is your analysis about the execution of 37 Saudi citizens by the Saudi regime?

These executions are condemned in my personal opinion as well as in the United Nations Human Rights Committee. The United Nations Human Rights Council has also condemned the executions and issued verdict about the necessity of adhering of all the countries that have signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948.

Recent executions in Saudi Arabia are major crimes and unacceptable in accordance with law; however, the Saudis have the reason for their action.

Despite the reactions of the international community and various governments to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, why have the Saudis carried out new executions?

Why do the Saudis commit executions in Saudi Arabia despite the open case of Khashoggi? Because they are comfort and confident about the reaction of the US President Donald Trump. He has so far delayed the prosecution and investigation of Saudis and satisfied by the name of suspects given by Saudis.

How effective do you consider the laws of the international judicial institutions in deterring these type of crimes?

These laws are not only deterrent, but also painful for the perpetrators of crime, but if we want to see the effectiveness and speed of the actions; first of all, these laws should be away from political affairs and common interests.

Secondly, it is necessary to refer to the judicial institutions and international tribunals which are under the policies of UN Security Council. What the world needs today is accelerating the separation of authorities and criminal cases and deliberate murder.

How do you evaluate US sanctions against Iranian people from the perspective of human rights?

US sanctions against Iran does not comply with international fundamental rights. The sanctions are declaration of the world war in which US does not benefit from it.

We can hear the voice of countries which protest and condemn US sanction. On the other hand, position of US will be also damaged and confronted with these countries.

US is losing and it must make decisions that are hard to implement, as Iran has options to continue the oil export. Of course, the price of oil may be lower than OPEC. It also causes a lot of dismay for US and its allies, and will eventually put pressure on the US itself through oil traders.
