TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of Iran-Kazakhstan Joint Chamber of Commerce says Iran and Kazakhstan need to sign MoUs for boosting their trade ties as the current trade level is not satisfactory despite their great potentials.

Speaking to ILNA, Amir Abedi talked about the latest developments on the trade between Iran and Kazakhstan, saying that recent studies and statistics of the Iran Customs Administrations show that the total exports of Iran to Kazakhstan in nine months this year have been 360.3k tons in terms of weight and $132.6m in value.

He said that Kazakhstan is one of the founders of the Eurasian Economic Union and the World Bank studies show that Kazakhstan’s economy in recent years has improved and the per capita revenue of Kazakhs has soared considerably. He added that Russia, China and some European countries are among the main trade partners of Kazakhstan. He reiterated that Kazakhstan is the biggest country in the Central Asia which is Iran’s neighbor via the Caspian Sea.

Abedi added that access to the Caspian Sea can be an especial opportunity for Iran’s trade for exporting its products to Kazakhstan while exports to Kazakhstan can be done by land, too. He noted that as Iran and Kazakhstan have had good relations for long yers, improvement of trade ties with Kazakhstan can be important for Iranian traders.

He stated Iran’s exports to Kazakhstan in the first three quarters of the current year have been 360.3k tons in weight and $132.6m in value while the total imports from Kazakhstan have been around $37.9m. He noted that so the total trade of Iran and Kazakhstan stands at $170.5m.

Abedi went on to say that Iran’s exports to Iran last year were $167.9 while the imports from Kazakhstan were valued at $37.4m.

He said that agro and food products, different types of mining and construction stones and home appliances have been major exporting items of Iran to Kazakhstan.

Abedi reiterated that Russia is the main exporter to Kazakhstan which shows the economic dependence of this country to Russia. He said in 2020, Russia accounted for 35% of Kazakhstan’s required imports which is a considerable figure. He noted that China with 17% is the second exporting country to Kazakhstan and South Korea with 13% is the third country while the U.S. only accounts for 3% of Kazakhstan’s required imports.

He went on to say that if technical and engineering services to Kazakhstan are added, the bilateral trade between Tehran and Nur-Sultan can hit $450m which is higher than what has been registered in the customs administration.

Abedi said that on exports, Kazakhstan is west-bound and Western countries have been Kazakhstan’s destinations for exports but Russia and China still have a considerable share in Kazakhstan’s exports.

He said due to high capacities and potentials, Iran and Kazakhstan can expand their economic cooperation and it needs good planning and studies, reiterating that signing joint MoUs is another effective way for improving trade between Ira and Kazakhstan.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Tehran, Shanghai Explore New Ways to Boost Trade Ties. Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (TCCIMA) and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai (CCPIT) in a webinar on joint trade explored reviewed opportunities and capacities for promoting and expansion of economic ties between Iran and China and especially with Shanghai Zone.

In the webinar which was held on Tuesday, the participants explored ways for broadening economic cooperation between Iran and China and especially with Shanghai. During the webinar, Head of TCCIMA Ms. Masoud Khansari raised some suggestions for expansion of economic and commercial ties between Iran and China and Head of CCPIT Mr. Zhou Minhao also announced the launch of the platform for Shanghai virtual exhibition with cooperation of the e-trade website of Alibaba Company and support of Shanghai Municipality, and stipulated that the platform can be innovative ways for expansion of cooperation between Iranian economic enterprises with Shanghai.

Addressing the webinar, Khansari pointed to the unilateral and unfair sanctions of the U.S. against Iran and some other countries like China, and called for taking a new and effective strategy for regulating relations between the aligned countries. He also pointed to the 25-year cooperation agreement between Iran and China and noted that this opportunity should be used as a foundation for the infrastructural cooperation between the two states for long cooperation in the future. Khansari also underscored the development of ties between Iran and China under the project of One Belt and One Road, adding that the private sector and especially the TCCIMA have plans on its agenda to concentrate on interactions with China’s provinces like Shanghai.

Khansari also said the chamber is keen for the launch of a permanent connection channel between TCCIMA and CCPIT for expansion of ties and emphasized the exchange of the website links of these two private sector bodies of the two states for an easy and safe access of economic activists and traders of the both countries.

He also called for activating the joint arbitration committee between the two countries which has been agreed by the both sides and called it a necessity. He further said that the draft for MoU on cooperation between TCCIMA and CCPIT has been prepared and reminded that this cooperation document will be a new opportunity for enhancing improvement of the level of cooperation between the two countries.

Then Zhou Minhao, for his part, said that Iran and China will celebrate their 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties this year and expansion of the One Belt and One Road project by China is a proof for China’s strategies of open doors and reciprocal benefits, reiterating that this has provided a valuable opportunity for cooperation enterprises worldwide and especially Iran.

Zhou also pointed to China’s policy during the COVID-19 pandemic era, saying that holding international exhibition on import and export in Shanghai is one of the policies of the country, adding that the launch of platform for Shanghai virtual exhibition is another step for easing the ties of the trade communities from different countries like Iran with Shanghai Economic Zone. Then he pointed to some facilities and services that the CCPIT can provide to the economic enterprises and called for growing cooperation between the CCPIT and TCCIMA.

Then Iran’s counselor in Shanghai Mr. Ramezan Parvaz, for his part, revealed the decline in trade volume between Iran and Shanghai and said in 2019, the trade volume between Iran and Shanghai was $2.321b as Iran’s exports accounted for $1.416b of the total amount and Shanghai’s share was $905m. He added the figure faced 13 percent decline in 2020 as the bilateral trade of Iran and Shanghai slumped to below $2b.

He noted that one of the problems ahead of economic ties of the two countries is the transfer of money and called for finding a solution for this woe.

In this meeting, the Iranian side expressed willingness for developing mutual economic relations on the basis of technical knowledge and technology, the portal of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) reported.

Speaking in the meeting, Jamili noted that Finland is one of the most influential and pioneering European countries in the field of startups, knowledge-based, and innovative and creative companies.

“We want to change the focus of our cooperation from the physical exchange of goods to the development of cooperation on the basis of technical knowledge and technology,” Jamili stressed.

He referred to a recent meeting between Iranian businessmen and Finland’s ambassador to Tehran, saying that in that meeting a report on the status of the two countries’ trade was presented.

He further expressed dissatisfaction with the low level of trade exchanges between the two countries, saying: “Finland is one of the important countries that, despite its effective role in the field of technology and its share in international markets, unfortunately, has had a very low level of trade with Iran over the last decade.”

“Part of this [the low level of trade] has been due to insufficient mutual knowledge about the two countries’ markets and part due to the lack of serious will on the traders’ side,” the official added.

Elsewhere in the meeting, the Finish official underlined Iran’s great capacities and potentials for investment and trade, saying: “There are many opportunities and good economic incentives to invest in Iran; We can work together to identify these opportunities.”

He suggested holding training courses for Iranian entrepreneurs by ICCIMA in collaboration with the Finish Embassy in Tehran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran and Italy are demonstrating a willingness to revive, by hook or by crook, the longstanding traditional economic ties, particularly between their private sectors, despite the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and US unilateral sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Having begun in Wuhan, China in December, the spread of the novel coronavirus, which causes an acute respiratory disease known as COVID-19 in most of the infected, has expanded to touch nearly every corner of the globe, infecting over 16.22 million and killing more than 648,800.

In addition to its human casualties, the outbreak has led to a significant drop in international trade transactions mainly due to the closure of land and air borders and restrictions on holding face-to-face meetings in an effort to curb the spread of the virus and reduce the risks.

Coupled with the negative impacts of Washington’s sanctions on Tehran, reimposed following the May 2018 US withdrawal from a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and P5+1, the coronavirus outbreak has reduced Iran’s already strained economic relations with European states.

However, it appears as if the zeal shown by Iran and Italy for reviving their long-lasting trade ties outweighs the obstacles, as they have already launched efforts to re-establish connection between their trade sectors through cyberspace at a time when the world is yearning for direct face-to-face contacts.

According to the press and culture counselor at the Italian Embassy in Iran, on Wednesday the two countries held a virtual business forum titled, ‘Economic Relations between Italy and Iran in the Current Context: Non-oil sectors, SMEs’ role, EU support’. The forum was hosted by the think tank, The European House – Ambrosetti in partnership with the Italian Embassy in the Iranian capital and the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (TCCIMA).

Over 800 people, including the representatives of the Iranian and Italian private sectors, as well as business consultants and professionals, from the two countries, attended the online event, which was aimed at discussing ways to expand economic cooperation, developing the longstanding and traditionally friendly relations and strengthening economic bonds between the two countries.

The online event offered participants the opportunity to analyze the current economic context and lay the groundwork for increased cooperation.

In addition, a special virtual B2B session was held on the same day where participants established direct contact, with an eye to exploring options for further cooperation and exchange.

In opening remarks at the beginning of the forum, Italian Ambassador to Tehran Giuseppe Perrone highlighted Italy’s wish to put economic and trade relations with Iran back on a positive trajectory.

Appreciating the Iranian private sector’s commitment and professionalism, he noted that the ties between the two countries are deep and historical.

He added that a significant number of Italian companies that have, over the years, built strong relationships in Iran are now looking forward to the opportunity of further expanding cooperation with Iranian counterparts.

In an address to the same event, Masoud Khansari, the TCCIMA’s chairman, encouraged participants to count on and renew focus on Iran’s enormous economic potential and develop effective partnerships with the country’s companies by, among other things, seizing the opportunities available in the broader region.

Khansari also highlighted the special role Italy has always played as a key partner of the Iranian private sector in trade and investment activities, expressing hope that Italian companies would continue to be a reference point for their Iranian counterparts.

The event also included a presentation by experts from the European Union of new tools made available to facilitate trade between European companies and Iranian firms.
