In a statement on Sunday, Khatibzadeh condemned the attack and offered sympathy to the government and nation of Burkina Faso and the victims’ families.

He also expressed Tehran’s preparedness to share its experiences in the fight against terrorism with African countries, especially Burkina Faso.

More than 130 people were killed in the terrorist attack which occurred in Sohlan, northern Burkina Faso, on Friday night. The assailants first targeted a civilian group called the “Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland,” which provide support to the army.

Following the attack, a security source told AFP that the attackers killed dozens of men and women in a deadly incursion. “On Friday night, armed individuals carried out a deadly incursion in Solhan, in the Yagha province. The death toll, still provisional, is about a hundred people killed, men and women,” the source said.

The Friday attack was the deadliest one in the African country since the start of terror violence in 2015.

Dr. Fakhrizadeh, Deputy Minister of Defense and Head of the Research and Innovation Organization of the Ministry of Defense of Iran, who was described by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as “a distinguished nuclear and defense scientist”, was assassinated and attained martyrdom on Friday evening, November 27, near the town of Absard, Damavand city, east to Tehran during a terrorist operation by the criminal agents of the Zionist regime.

In his letter, General Hatami wrote about scientific and research achievements and initiatives gained and developed by Dr. Fakhrizadeh.

Further, he stressed the need to put aside double-standard behavior towards the fight against state terrorism.

Then, he called on the global community to take part in the campaign against “this inhuman, illegitimate and felonious move.”

Referring to the record “direct involvement” of the Zionist regime’s intelligence services in assassinating Iranian scientists, the minister said that there is also serious evidence about the regime’s role in this terror [the assassination of Fakhrizadeh].

Iran sees silence on this terrorist act as an excuse for its repetition and insecurity in the world, the minister underlined.

He further announced that Iran preserves the right to respond to the assassination.

“First to investigate this crime and firmly prosecute its perpetrators and its commanders, second to continue the martyr’s scientific and technological efforts in all the sectors where he was active,” Khamenei.ir has quoted the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei as speaking about the incident.

Referring to the widespread condemnation of the heinous terror attack, the spokesman said, “After the martyrdom of Dr. Fakhrizadeh, we received a large number messages from across the world.”

“In the Persian Gulf region, all but one country condemned the terrorist attack. Iran’s neighboring countries and allies, and even those who were not allies of Iran, deplored the assassination.”

Khatibzadeh also referred to Assadollah Assadi, an Iranian diplomat who was arrested in Germany back in 2018 on the false charges of being linked to a bomb attack plot in the French capital of Paris.

He said Iran has announced its position from the beginning that this detainment and such procedure is illegal due to the breach of diplomatic impunity of governments and diplomats.

“This is a bad innovation on the path of diplomatic immunity.”

In June 2018, Belgian authorities said that Iranian diplomat Assadollah Assadi had been arrested in Germany over suspicions of plotting a bomb attack on a meeting of the terrorist Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) in Paris attended by US President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and several former European and Arab ministers.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that the claims about Assadi constituted a “sinister false flag ploy.”

No report on any drone attack against IRGC general

Elsewhere in his remarks, the spokesman dismissed the credibility of reports circulated by some foreign media outlets on a drone attack against an IRGC general at Iraq-Syria borders.

“We have not received any report in this regard, and it seems more of a media propaganda,” Saeed Khatibzadeh said.

The spokesman noted that such reports should be directly rendered by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Armed Forces.

“The Armed Forces spokesperson should comment in this regard. We have not received any credible report on such issue,” he added.

The Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Afghanistan has been gripped by nearly constant conflict since the Soviet invasion of 1979, which was followed by civil war, the Taliban rule, and the US invasion in late 2001.

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said on Saturday the Pakistani government supports terrorists who committed the recent attack on IRGC forces, and its security service knows the whereabouts of these groups. The general made the remarks in Isfahan City on Friday evening during a farewell ceremony held for those martyred.

The Pakistani government must change its approach towards these groups, he said, adding that Iran reserves the right to directly respond to the attack if Pakistan does not move to fight terrorists.

Last Wednesday, a suicide attacker hit an explosive-laden vehicle into a military bus carrying IRGC personnel in the south-eastern Sistan and Baluchestan province.

The attack martyred 27 and wounded 13 others.

The Jaish al-Adl group, an offshoot of Jundallah which has carried dozens of terror operations inside Iran in recent years, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Jaish al-Adl was formed in 2012 as a successor to the extremist group Jundallah (“Soldiers of God”), which waged a deadly insurgency for a decade before it was severely weakened by the capture and execution of its leader Abdolmalek Rigi by Tehran in 2010.

General Jafari said the attacks had been carried out at the order of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, two Arab governments hostile towards Iran.

Iran will no longer show patience towards plots and reactionary governments in the region, particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which take these measures at the order of the US and Zionist regime, and will certainly take compensatory measures from now on, he said.

The IRGC chief said such terror attacks would only strengthen Iran’s will to deal blows to enemies.

“The enemies must be assured that the comrades of these martyrs and all those responsible for protecting security of people will be more determined to defend and deal bigger blows to enemies,” he said.

It came after a terrorist attack against members of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) killed more than 20 people in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan on Wednesday.

The IRGC personnel were traveling between the cities of Zahedan and Khash, in Sistan and Baluchestan, when their bus was targeted in a suicide car bomb attack.

The IRGC’s Quds Base said in a statement that an explosives-laden car rammed into the bus, which was taking the personnel back to their homes.

The attack killed 27 IRGC members and injured 13 others.

The so-called Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier in the day, the anti-Iran summit organized by the United States kicked off in Poland.

The Warsaw conference is considered as part of US attempts to heap pressure on Iran globally.

Since withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal last year, the US administration has steadily ratcheted up pressure on Tehran and vowed to increase it until Iran halts what US officials describe as its “malign activities” throughout the Middle East and elsewhere.

As part of its policy of maximum pressure, Washington in early November re-imposed what it called the harshest-ever sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

The meeting has, however, received a cold welcome from Washington’s European allies, which are engaged in a diplomatic process with Tehran aimed at saving the 2015 nuclear deal.
