TEHRAN (Iran News) –Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (TCCIMA) hosted a meeting with a delegation of senior Pakistani state officials on Monday, during which the two sides discussed ways of expanding economic exchanges between the two countries’ private sectors.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the TCCIMA Bahman Eshghi, and TCCIMA Deputy Head for International Affairs Hessamedin Hallaj.

At the beginning of this meeting, Eshghi introduced TCCIMA as the largest chamber of commerce in the country, noting that the business enterprises based in the capital Tehran account for about 50 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

He pointed to the historic relations between Iran and Pakistan and said: “After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, Iran-Pakistan relations have been very friendly both in the period before Iran’s Islamic revolution and after the revolution.”

Eshghi described the extent of the economic cooperation between Iran and Pakistan as broad and said: “The continuation and development of this cooperation require the exchange of knowledge and experiences of the parties, and the chambers of commerce can become the center of such exchanges and communications.”

Referring to the pressures of Western sanctions on both countries, he called this situation a common point for reviewing bilateral relations and considered it the duty of the private sectors of the two countries to resolve problems and improve trade relations despite the sanctions.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Eshghi put forward three proposals for improving the trade relations between Iran and Pakistan and said: “The first step to realizing this goal is to deepen the relations between the businessmen of the two countries. The TCCIMA will be active in this regard and it is necessary for the Pakistani side to take measures as well.”

He, next, underlined the necessity of preparing a list of exchangeable goods and products between the two countries, saying that the two neighbors, despite having a long relationship, have little knowledge of each other’s market needs.

Finally, the official stressed the need for promoting joint investment by the two sides, noting that joint cooperation does not necessarily require large investments, and small companies can also pioneer in the path of such joint investments.

Then Muhammad J. Afaqi, Dean of National Management College (NMC) of National School of Public Policy of Pakistan for his part said that today by a click in the internet one can get information about countries but some information is obtained through such meetings. He then pointed to the deep cultural and religious relation between Iran and Pakistan and expressed hope the economic relations between the two countries improve after the meeting.

The event was attended by Belarus’ Deputy Industry Minister Haritonchik Dmitry Ivanovich, the country’s Ambassador to Tehran Dmitry Koltsov, and Head of TCCIMA Industry and Mining Committee Ali Naqib, the TCCIMA portal reported.

During the forum, the two sides emphasized the need for the development of cooperation in the field of industry, especially in the machinery sector, as well as foodstuff, livestock, and agriculture for boosting trade relations between the two countries.

Addressing the forum, Naqib referred to the low level of economic relations between the two countries in recent years and underlined some fields including consumer goods and the industrial sector as potential areas for the development of trade relations.

He said the export of industrial products from Belarus to Iran, especially machinery, as well as food and livestock products, will contribute to the development of relations between the two countries.

The official also mentioned the recent developments regarding the joining of Iran in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), noting that this would be a great opportunity for the expansion of economic relations between Iran and Belarus.

In this conference, Koltsov also referred to Iran as a valuable economic partner of his country and emphasized joint production and technology transfer as areas for strengthening mutual economic relations between the two countries.

Ivanovich for his part stressed the need for the expansion of cooperation between the private sectors and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of the two sides.

He noted that the private companies of this country, which are considered among SMEs, account for the lion’s share of products and services in Belarus.

Emphasizing that Belarusian industrial companies are looking for stable and reliable partners in Iran to establish long-term cooperation, Ivanovich said: “Joint production, assembly of products in the markets of both countries and exports to nearby markets are among the strategies of Belarus Industry Ministry in cooperation with Iran.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The 26th meeting of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (TCCIMA) Board of Representatives was held on Tuesday in which major economic issues were discussed.

As reported by the TCCIMA portal, barriers to the activity of startups, the benefits of joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, review of macroeconomic indicators of the country and monitoring the performance of TCCIMA, and the issues of the private sector enterprises with the Iran National Standard Organization (INSO) were among the major issues explored at the said meeting.

The meeting was attended by the TCCIMA Head Masoud Khansari and the INSO Head Gholamreza Shariati, as well as the members of the chamber’s board of representatives.

Speaking in the meeting Khansari mentioned a report published by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) based on which Iran’s industrial sectors have grown by 8.4 percent and 6.1 percent in the first and second quarters of 2021, respectively.

He also referred to the growth of the country’s Gross Domestic Products (GDP) in the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-June 21) and said: “Reports recently published by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and the Statistics Center of Iran (SCI) indicate that economic growth, including oil, in the first quarter of this year was 6.2 percent, according to the CBI, or 7.6 percent, according to the SCI, and if this trend continues, we hope economic conditions will get better.”

Khansari went on to discuss the statistics of liquidity growth and monetary base and explained: “Liquidity growth is still on the rise; the liquidity figure in [the Iranian calendar month of] Mordad (July 22-August 22) reached 39.21 quadrillion rials (about $933.5 billion), which is a very high figure and has experienced huge growth. “

“The main reason for this increase in liquidity is the budget deficit. According to the latest reports, the country’s revenues and expenditures do not match at all, and perhaps less than 50 percent of the country’s expected revenues have been realized in the last five months, and the government has to use the central bank’s resources to cover its expenses, which increases the monetary base,” he added.

Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (TCCIMA) and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai (CCPIT) in a webinar on joint trade explored reviewed opportunities and capacities for promoting and expansion of economic ties between Iran and China and especially with Shanghai Zone.

In the webinar which was held on Tuesday, the participants explored ways for broadening economic cooperation between Iran and China and especially with Shanghai. During the webinar, Head of TCCIMA Ms. Masoud Khansari raised some suggestions for expansion of economic and commercial ties between Iran and China and Head of CCPIT Mr. Zhou Minhao also announced the launch of the platform for Shanghai virtual exhibition with cooperation of the e-trade website of Alibaba Company and support of Shanghai Municipality, and stipulated that the platform can be innovative ways for expansion of cooperation between Iranian economic enterprises with Shanghai.

Addressing the webinar, Khansari pointed to the unilateral and unfair sanctions of the U.S. against Iran and some other countries like China, and called for taking a new and effective strategy for regulating relations between the aligned countries. He also pointed to the 25-year cooperation agreement between Iran and China and noted that this opportunity should be used as a foundation for the infrastructural cooperation between the two states for long cooperation in the future. Khansari also underscored the development of ties between Iran and China under the project of One Belt and One Road, adding that the private sector and especially the TCCIMA have plans on its agenda to concentrate on interactions with China’s provinces like Shanghai.

Khansari also said the chamber is keen for the launch of a permanent connection channel between TCCIMA and CCPIT for expansion of ties and emphasized the exchange of the website links of these two private sector bodies of the two states for an easy and safe access of economic activists and traders of the both countries.

He also called for activating the joint arbitration committee between the two countries which has been agreed by the both sides and called it a necessity. He further said that the draft for MoU on cooperation between TCCIMA and CCPIT has been prepared and reminded that this cooperation document will be a new opportunity for enhancing improvement of the level of cooperation between the two countries.

Then Zhou Minhao, for his part, said that Iran and China will celebrate their 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties this year and expansion of the One Belt and One Road project by China is a proof for China’s strategies of open doors and reciprocal benefits, reiterating that this has provided a valuable opportunity for cooperation enterprises worldwide and especially Iran.

Zhou also pointed to China’s policy during the COVID-19 pandemic era, saying that holding international exhibition on import and export in Shanghai is one of the policies of the country, adding that the launch of platform for Shanghai virtual exhibition is another step for easing the ties of the trade communities from different countries like Iran with Shanghai Economic Zone. Then he pointed to some facilities and services that the CCPIT can provide to the economic enterprises and called for growing cooperation between the CCPIT and TCCIMA.

Then Iran’s counselor in Shanghai Mr. Ramezan Parvaz, for his part, revealed the decline in trade volume between Iran and Shanghai and said in 2019, the trade volume between Iran and Shanghai was $2.321b as Iran’s exports accounted for $1.416b of the total amount and Shanghai’s share was $905m. He added the figure faced 13 percent decline in 2020 as the bilateral trade of Iran and Shanghai slumped to below $2b.

He noted that one of the problems ahead of economic ties of the two countries is the transfer of money and called for finding a solution for this woe.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s frozen money in Seoul to pay off Korean exports. South Korea’s new Ambassador to Tehran Yun Kang-hyeon has said Iran’s frozen oil money in his country will be used to pay off Korean companies that had previously exported basic commodities to Iran.

Speaking in a meeting with the Head of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Masoud Khansari, Yun noted that the money cannot be used for exporting new items to Iran except for basic goods or medicine, the TCCIMA portal reported.

In the meeting, held in Tehran on Monday, the two sides discussed the latest state of trade relations between the two countries and explored ways for improving economic ties.

According to Yun, if the U.S. sanctions on Iran are lifted the amount of South Korean investment in Iran will be such that Iran’s blocked resources in the Asian country will be insignificant compared to them.

“South Korea is committed to helping the Iranian people. Last year, a large amount of medicine and medical equipment was exported from Korea to Iran following a U.S. trade waiver issued by the United States government,” the ambassador said.

He further mentioned the negative impacts of the sanctions on South Korean companies and said: “South Korea’s oil and petrochemical industries have suffered the most from sanctions against Iran.”

“Fortunately, estimates suggest that governments are negotiating, and if sanctions are lifted, South Korea will begin investing heavily in Iran, especially in areas such as railways or equipping Iranian mobile networks with 5G technology,” he said.

Further in the meeting Khansari also referred to the recent talks between Iran and other signatories of the 2015 nuclear deal on reviving the deal, saying: “Iran’s private sector expects that after the conclusion of these negotiations and the lifting of sanctions, Iran and South Korea would make joint investments in various economic and industrial sectors.”

The official said that before the Trump administration imposed new sanctions on Iran, the volume of economic relations between Iran and South Korea exceeded $17 billion, but with the withdrawal of the U.S. administration from the deal, the level of trade decreased to less than $2 billion.

The TCCIMA head also stressed that the Iranian private sector is ready to develop economic cooperation with Korean companies.

“Holding business webinars between the companies of the two countries to get acquainted with each other’s capabilities and capabilities is one of the Tehran Chamber’s steps to revive Iran-Korea trade,” Khansari said.

The event titled “Investigating Opportunities for Trade Cooperation with Tajikistan” will be held online and with the aim of boosting Iranian businessmen’s knowledge of the Tajik market and elevating bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The 14th meeting of Iran-Tajikistan Joint Economic Committee was held in Tajikistan in early June.

As reported, promoting economic relations was the major focus of the mentioned meeting which was co-chaired by Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian and Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Recourses Daler Juma.

Speaking in the opening ceremony, Ardakanian underlined the long historical, cultural, and economic relations between the two countries and said: “Considering the will of the top leaders of the two countries, the implementation of approved agreements requires serious determination [by the two sides].”

“One of the important factors for the expansion of trade relations between the two countries is the establishment of banking relations between the two countries and it is necessary for both sides to take necessary steps in this regard,” the Iranian minister stated.

Welcoming the Tajik side’s proposal for the expansion of Iran’s industrial investments in Tajikistan using the country’s workforce and resources, Ardakanian said: “Solving banking problems is a prerequisite for the development of Iranian investments [in Tajikistan].”

Further in the event, Juma welcomed the Iranian delegation, saying: “the 14th session of the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation between the two countries will create a special movement in the promotion and development of economic relations between the two countries.”

Referring to trade relations and trade balance between the two countries in the past few years, he said: “based on the two sides’ import and export data, there is great potential for improving trade relations between the two countries.”

He mentioned the cooperation between the two countries in the construction of a dam and a hydroelectric power plant as successful examples of cooperation between the two countries, both of which were designed and built by specialized companies and put into operation by the presidents of the two countries.

Juma also referred to the agreement between the two countries for the implementation of a project to complete the facilities of the Tajikistan Esteghlal Tunnel and noted that his country is ready to fulfill its financial obligations in this regard.
