TEHRAN (Iran News) – Oil industry accounts for 80% of Iran’s newly indigenized products.Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari has said that 80 percent of the products that are being produced for the first time in the country are related to the oil industry.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Oil Industry Innovation and Technology Park on Monday, Sattari stressed the significant role of knowledge-based companies and startups in indigenizing the knowledge for the production of new equipment and products, saying: “The government will support research on new equipment and the private sector invests on the mass production of the final products.”

“The Petroleum Industry Research Institute can be a great platform [for working on the indigenization of equipment and products], but one cannot expect a researcher at this institute to produce a final product,” he said.

“The condition must be prepared for startups to thrive,” the official said, adding: “Technology companies provide this opportunity.”

According to Sattari, most of the investment needed for the expansion of work on new technologies must be provided by the private sector and not the government.

“The private sector needs to invest 10 times more on such projects compared to the budget that the government has spent on this park,” he stressed.

The Oil Industry Technology and Innovation Park, established on a 32-hectare land near Tehran, is a governmental and non-profit organization that aims to develop oil industry-related technologies in collaboration with universities, research and development institutes, and private companies.

Strengthening domestic production and indigenizing the knowledge and technology for the production of the products and equipment that Iran imports from other countries has become one of the major programs that the country is pursuing in recent years.

To materialize this objective, knowledge-based companies have played a noticeable part, especially in indigenizing the products and equipment applied in the oil industry, which is the major sector in the country’s national economy.

According To Iran News, Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari inaugurated a plant manufacturing coronavirus diagnostic test kits, saying the export of the homegrown device will begin in the near future.

Sattari on Saturday opened the assembly line of domestically-developed coronavirus test kits in the city of Karaj, 30 kilometers west of Tehran.

The vice president praised local experts for manufacturing a broad range of equipment for the battle with COVID-19, including surgery room apparatuses, medical ventilators and masks, saying six local knowledge-based companies have received permission for the production of coronavirus diagnostic test kits.

Sattari said the new plant has a capacity to produce 100,000 test kits that utilize PCR (polymerase chain reaction) analysis and 2 million serologic test kits per week.

As soon as the assembly lines are promoted and the production capacity increases, Iran will become an exporter of the coronavirus diagnostic test kits, he said.

VP Highlights Iran’s Biotechnological Medicine Production Capacity

According To Iran News, Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Affairs Sorena Sattari highlighted the Islamic Republic’s place in the Middle East region in terms of the capacity for producing biotechnological medicines.

Addressing a ceremony in the northeastern city of Mashhad on Tuesday, Sattari said currently, 22 types of biotechnological medicines are produced domestically and this has made the country unmatched in the region in terms of medical capacity.

“In addition, there are 600 biotech companies in the country, and we are Asia’s third-largest exporter of these (biotechnological) products,” the vice-president said.

All of the products have been produced under the sever sanctions, Sattari said, adding that these innovations are the outcome of the sanctions.

Back in December, Health Minister Saeed Namaki unveiled plans to inaugurate 1,000 new health and medical projects, saying the ministry has launched the second stage of a grand plan focusing on prevention of diseases.

In comments in October, he also said Iran was exporting pharmaceuticals to countries in Europe, Africa and Central Asia.

In September, secretary of Biotechnology Development Headquarter at the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology said Iranian biopharmaceuticals were being exported to major customers like Russia, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Turkey, adding that plans were underway to transfer Iranian biopharmaceuticals technology to Argentina.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari said that his country is robustly after developing its innovative economy, adding that 200 more new technology-based domestic startups (NTBFs) will get activated in the next Iranian year (to start March 20).

“The number of NTBFs will hit 5,000 at large,” Sattari said in his visit to Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province, reported Fars News Agency.

Moving in the path of the technology-based economy and domestic startups should pave the way for the development and progress of Iran, he said, adding, “taking advantage of capacities and potentials of each region and developing NTBFs will pave the way for the development and progress in the country.”

Sattari further noted that the development of startups plays a leading and important role in cutting dependency of the country to foreign countries.

Taking advantage of high potentials and capacities of the manpower should be taken into consideration as well, he stressed.

Iran has taken wide strides in science and technology, particularly in medical and medicinal fields, in recent years.

Last month, Sattari said, “We are the superior power in the region and Asia in biotechnology.”

Last week, the media announced that Iranian scientists at a startup have succeeded in the production of a 3D scanner to capture in three dimensions the full body of a person.

“The scanner can give the 3D model of a body. The system consists of two parts of a rotary platform and a sensor tower,” Mohammad Sadeq Shahabadi, the CEO of the company, said.

He said that for taking a 3D scan, a person should stand on the platform and the 3D sensor starts operation; then the rotary platform rotates so that the sensor can record the specifications of all parts of the body, adding that at last, the software will display the 3D model of a person.

Iran Among Top 5 Countries in Chemistry

According To Iran News, Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari said the Islamic Republic is ranked among the world’s top five countries in the science of chemistry.

During a visit to an exhibition of achievements of Iranian knowledge-based companies in the southern province of Bushehr on Saturday, Sattari said Iran has been ranked among the world’s top 10 countries in terms of scientific articles and among the best five nations in the field of chemistry.

Highlighting the great advances that the Iranian private sector has made in the gas and oil industry in recent years, the vice president said Iranian scientists have managed to produce all catalysts used in the oil industry inside the country.

Iran is the third largest producer of gas in the world, he added, noting that 70 percent of the country’s gas output comes from the South Pars region.

Pointing to the growing number of gas refineries, petrochemical plants and private companies in the South Pars region, Sattari said the energy-rich zone has provided a perfect market for knowledge-based companies.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has on various occasion highlighted the role of science as a means of power and development, urging efforts to maintain the pace of scientific growth in Iran despite enemy efforts to undermine it.

In April 2019, the Leader described a cut in Iran’s reliance on the export of oil as an opportunity, saying such an opportunity will be used for further reliance on internal capabilities.

“Although the sanctions pave the way for problems in certain cases, they will benefit the country if they are dealt with correctly and logically,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Tehran Keen to Share Scientific Successes With world

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

According To Iran News, Iran’s Vice-President for Scientific Affairs Sorena Sattari said on Wednesday in China Hi-Tech Fair 2019 that Iran is ready to expand strategic cooperation with other countries in the field of developing new ideas, which is a good opportunity for sharing technological know-how, human resources and financial and marketing capacities.

Exchange of advanced products and technologies at the international level provided a vital opportunity to meet the challenges facing societies, said Sorena Sattari in the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Exhibition of China in Shenzhen.

Sattari said, “Therefore, cooperation of countries in the development and dissemination of technological innovations account for motivation of progress and advancements of the nations.”

He said, “Iran has always been well-known in the global public opinion as a rich country in terms of natural resources and cultural heritage.”

“Decades of reliance on domestic capabilities have made it possible for our country to take a big step in changing the picture of its previous economy into a knowledge-based economy.”

“Since the mid-1990s, innovation has become one of the most important policymaking keywords in Iran. Since then, changes have been made at the highest level of the country’s policymaking to integrate the country’s capacities for the development of scientific and technological innovation.”

He added that to keep up with the changes, the formation of infrastructures such as business incentives, accelerators, science and technology parks, science and technology special zones, research and technology funds and joint venture capital funds, eliminates the institutional gaps in Iran’s National Innovation System to a great extent.

Following two decades of scientific development efforts, Iran ranked 16th in the world in scientific publications, increased by 18 places from 2005. After this successful transition, based on the domestic demands, we have been able to have the most engineering graduates in the world, and as a result of this move, we have promoted to have an export share of high-tech and medium-high tech exports with a significant leap of $1.5b in 2005 to $12b in 2014, he said.

Saying that according to the latest Global Innovation Index report, Iran’s ranking of innovation in 2019 among the countries of the world has been improved by 60 places, he added, “The dissemination of innovation to the various economic sectors that caused them to benefit from the fruits of the knowledge-based economy, is a serious policy challenge.”

He called for addressing the challenges through deepening international cooperation in order to open access to blessings of innovation for all societies.

“Exchange of scientists, entrepreneurs and technology based on the mutual benefits of the nations, collaboration on major industrial projects based on national priorities, collaboration on the development of creative and startup solutions for different societies, sharing policy experiences on different innovation ecosystems through dialogue and joint cross financing for innovative projects at international level are different types of collaborative efforts that can be effective to foster the nation’s innovation capacity.”

TEHRAN (Iran News)- Chairman of the Iran Aviation Industry Organization Amir Karim Bani Tarafi announced that the domestically-manufactured training jet, Yasin, which was unveiled earlier this month can also be equipped with bombs and missiles in future to be used for close air support (CAS) operations.

“At present, the plane only has a training function but it can be in the future completed and equipped with bombs and missiles and be used as a CAS operations plane,” Bani Tarafi said in an interview with the state TV on Saturday.

He also said that the Air Force is assessing its needs to Yasin training jet and it usually needs 3 to 4 squadrons, each consisting of 16 planes.

Bani Tarafi underlined that one of the problems facing Iran in manufacturing the training jet was its engine, but the problem was eventually overcome and the engine was later mass-produced by Iranian experts and used in Yasin.

Iran earlier this month unveiled and put into operation the domestically-manufactured training jet, which is among the world’s best in terms of takeoff and landing capabilities.

The advanced jet, dubbed Yasin, was put on display in the presence of Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami, Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh and Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari.

The training jet, which has undergone its final test, made its maiden flight over Noje Airbase in Iran’s Western Hamadan Province.

The aircraft is 12 meters long and four meters high. It weighs 5.5 tons and can fly up to 12 kilometers.

The wing’s design enables the jet to land and take off at a speed of at least 200 kilometers per hour.

A fully horizontal rotating fin on the aircraft’s tail allows the pilot to perform various maneuvers.

Yasin utilizes two 7,000-pound-thrust turbo jet engines, which is used for jet fighters.

Iran has recently made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing military equipment and hardware despite facing sanctions and Western economic pressure.

The Islamic Republic says its military power is solely for defensive purposes and does not pose any threat to other countries.

“Tehran has been ranked among the 50 top technological cities of the world for the second year,” Sorena Sattari said at the 17th festival of Best Companies of Pardis Technology Park on Saturday.

“This is a result of the abundant universities and research and scientific centers in the city,” he added.

Sattari noted that Tehran’s considerable human resources, along with its immense academic potentials, grant the sprawling capital a unique opportunity to develop its innovative plans.

This is of great significance since the knowledge-based sector can greatly contribute to oiling the wheels of the economy, he said.

The 17 festival of Best Companies of Pardis Technology Park is held annually to highlight the best businesses and products developed at Tehran’s first technology park, which is located 30 km east of the capital.

The park has a stellar record and has signed collaboration deals with academia to help promote the technology sector.

Selected companies picked by a panel of industry heads will be offered meetings with investors and awarded incentives to boost their potential.

Pardis Technology Park created a decade ago, is supervised by the Vice-Presidency’s Office for Science and Technology.

Tehran currently has 21 operational technology parks across the city affiliated to universities like Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran University, and Amir Kabir University.
