TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Ambassador to China said Tehran seeks to boost bilateral ties with members of the “One Belt, One Road” project, particularly China that is the initiator of the project.

Mohammad Keshavarz-Zadeh made the remarks on Saturday at the opening ceremony of the fifth cultural exhibition of the Colorful World in Beijing, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

He stressed that cultural relations between Iran and China will continue to expand despite the outbreak of coronavirus.

The ambassador also expressed hope that Iran and China will boost bilateral relations in various fields, including cultural and trade activities after the containment of COVID-19.

The One Belt, One Road Project, or the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, was originally introduced to the world by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013. The Chinese government calls the initiative “a bid to enhance regional connectivity and embrace a brighter future”.

Keshavarz-Zadeh further reviewed Iran’s cultural capabilities and invited the participants to visit the Iranian pavilion in the exhibition.

Iran has taken part in the six-day exhibition to display its artifacts and handicrafts, as well as other products including tableau rugs and saffron.

The ongoing exhibition is highly significant as it is the first major cultural event being held in China in the 10 last months after the coronavirus pandemic.

Referring to Iran role to promote the East-West Corridor, the ambassador said, “Iran and China are both significant countries and are able to expand their collaboration in the energy and infrastructure sectors as well as land, sea and air communications.”

Seyed Reza Aghazadeh, Iran’s commercial attaché in China, said several advantages of foreign investment in Iran had been examined at the international Silk Road summit held last week in Beijing.

The two-day Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation closed last Monday in Beijing, with Chinese President Xi Jinping declaring the event a success and China signing deals with 68 countries to jointly develop infrastructure along the new Silk Road trade routes.

Aghazadeh, who is Iranian commercial counselor in China, said the summit aimed at boosting trade and cultural exchanges and enjoyed participation of over 200 companies and unions from China as well as foreign diplomats and ambassadors in Beijing. “At the session, while distributing a book on investment in Iran, advantages of investment in the country were described,” he stated.

Lecturers at the event recounted on development of China’s Road and Belt initiative and expansion of cooperation, said the official adding “as regards Iran, the most important issues raised at the event were introducing Iran’s economy and resources, foreign investment laws in the mainland and free zones, tax incentives for investment and legal protection of rights of foreign investors.”

Aghazadeh went on to maintain that representatives from foreign countries like Croatia, Lithuania, Pakistan, Nepal and Iran each presented foreign investment advances and policies in competitive markets.

China and Iran should be considered as two strategic partners, partners who have remained together in the midst of intricate international conditions, but the important point is the expansion of economic relations over the past four years when two pragmatic governments were holding office in both sides.

In 2016, volume of trade turnover between Iran and China was 410 thousand tons higher as compared to the 2015 figure with its worth climbing to more than $ 31.24 billion, although the figure failed to break the record of $ 50 billion dollars set in 2014.

But in the first nine months of 2017, according to latest figures from the Chinese Customs, value of trade between Iran and China exceeded $ 27 billion, indicating a trade balance of $ 540 million in favor of our country.

Namely, Iran has shipped goods worth $ 13.88 billion over the past 9 months, which is $ 3 billion larger than the same period last year, while last year’s trade balance was $ 940 million in favor of China.

A freight train set about its long journey from Muslim-residing Yinchuan, the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, central China, on Tuesday to come to Tehran in the framework of the new Silk Road plan, named the One Belt One Road Initiative (OBOR).

The launch ceremony of the international freight train from Yinchuan to Tehran was held in Beijing on Tuesday, IRNA reported.

The journey is just part of China’s huge plan to be implemented with a budget of $ 124 billion and cooperation of regional countries.

According to China’s People Daily, the train is carrying 560 metric tons of machinery, automobile spare parts, ceramics, glassware, and daily commodities and is scheduled to reach Tehran in about 15 days traveling via Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

Liang Hua, whose company is in charge of the operation, said, “The train takes more than 20 days less than transporting by ship, and is expected to greatly lower our delivery costs.”

According to local officials from Ningxia’s Department of Commerce, the new cargo route will help to increase trade between China and countries in central and west Asia.

China is launching a train to Iran for the second time; the first train entered Iran after traveling 10,000km last year. The train had come from Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, eastern China.
