TEHRAN (Iran News) –Mehrdad Bazrpash referred to the statistics in the field of transit during the administration of the late president and said good agreements were inked with the regional countries in this field and the road transit volume rose from 9.3 tons to 14.7 tons last year.

It is hoped that the volume of the road transit will exceed 20 million tons by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (to end March 20, 2025), he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Bazrpash pointed to the two macro projects namely “Iran Rah” and “Housing of People” and expounded on the positive measurers taken in these two fields.

The “Iran Rah” Project is a main issue in defining Iran’s logistics and transit opportunities and has been put atop agenda of the ministry, he said.

An American initiative was planned to remove Iran from the international corridors and transit routes, so the “Iran Rah” initiative was launched by Iran to confront it, and consequently, considerable transit growth was witnessed in the country, he went on to say, the website of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development (MRUD) reported.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –The Iranian president and his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev attended a ceremony at the common border on Sunday to inaugurate the Qiz-Qalasi dam, constructed jointly by Iran and the Azerbaijan Republic on the Aras River.

Addressing the event, Raisi said the relations between the two countries are friendly, fraternal, and –as what Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has described- beyond neighborly relations.

The ties between Tehran and Baku are based on kinship, he added, noting, “This bond and strong relationship, since it is rooted in history, civilization, culture and beliefs of two nations and two countries, will never be separated and will develop day by day.”

Raisi described the inauguration of the dam as one of the memorable events in the history of relations between the two countries and added, “Aras River has always been a focal point for the connection between the people of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which began with the construction of the Aras Dam 50 years ago and until today, has arrived to the joint construction of this major project.”

“This project, which is a symbol of development in the region, is a sign of the determination of two countries and two nations to develop cooperation, and will create hope for the dear people of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan and despair for the enemies of the two nations,” Raisi added, his official website reported.

The Qiz-Qalasi dam is located in the Khoda Afarin region in Iran’s northwestern province of East Azarbaijan. With a capacity of 62 million cubic meters, it will supply water to the irrigation and drainage networks of Khoda Afarin County.

A hydroelectric power station coupled with the dam has also been designed to generate 270 MWh of electricity per annum.

Known as the biggest water project in Iran’s northwestern border areas, the Qiz-Qalasi dam is estimated to regulate 2 billion cubic meters of water every year.

The accident reportedly happened as the president was returning from the Khoda Afarin region in Iran’s northwestern province of East Azarbaijan after inaugurating a dam at the common border with the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Some people in the president’s entourage have reportedly contacted the command center, raising hopes that the accident has had no casualties.

The president’s convoy included three helicopters. Two of the choppers carrying a number of ministers and officials have landed safely.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and the Friday prayers leader of Tabriz, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-e-Hashem, were also on board the helicopter carrying the president.

The rescue teams from the Red Crescent Society of Iran, the military force and the Police have been deployed to the area to find the helicopter.

Local people say the situation is unclear because of the foggy conditions in the area.

Speaking to state TV by telephone, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said a helicopter of the president’s convoy returning from Jolfa has made a hard landing.

The minister said rescue teams have been deployed to the area in the foggy weather.

Spokesperson for the Iranian Administration Ali Bahadori Jahromi announced that participants in the cabinet session on Sunday have been given the latest reports regarding the helicopter accident.

He noted that the president’s deputy for executive affairs, Mohsen Mansouri, and a number of cabinet members have been dispatched to Tabriz, the capital of East Azarbaijan province.
