TEHRAN (Iran News) –Etemad said that Iranian wagons transport export shipments to Turkmenistan’s Atrak station.

Iran exported some 16,000 tons of goods through Incheboron to Turkmenistan railway during Nowruz holidays this year, he added.

He stated that the total loading of this center in Nowruz reached 25,000 tons.

Iran Railways (Incheboron) – Turkmenistan – Kazakhstan was inaugurated in 2014 with the presence of the presidents of the three countries but there are some problems due to the lack of bridges for the train crossing and the width of Turkmenistan railroad for the exchange of goods and the movement of wagons.

Earlier, Etemad highlighted the width of the Turkmenistan railroad that is larger than the global standard making a stumbling block for railway trade among the two countries, stating that Iran had solved the problem with a 200-meter bogie, but the Turkmen side has yet to address the issue.

Turkmenistan connected its railroad to Iran’s railways after discussing and resolving legal and financial problems in March 2021.

Incheboron is located on the Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan railway.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian government picked up a new contractor for construction of a key railroad extension into Iraqi territory, with sources saying that the bidder would provide full finances worth 100 million euros for the project.

ISNA cited a senior Roads and Urban Development Ministry official as saying that the selected private sector company would be quicker in finishing the 33-kilometer railroad that would finally link the southwestern Iranian city of Shalamcheh to Iraq’s Basra.

Abbas Khatibi said that the company is planning to commission works inside Iraq to an Iraqi contractor to expedite the project and finish it on time, Press TV reported.

Iran’s First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri earlier announced that the Mostazafan Foundation (MFJ) had been removed from the Iran-Iraq railroad project and replaced with a company identified as Fadak Arzesh Afarinan.

The MFJ, a large semi-government institution that has been awarded with key construction projects in Iran, had been supposed to provide 60 percent of the finances for the railroad project inside Iraq and the rest was the responsibility of the Iranian government.

Reports in July suggested that hurdles had been cleared for the progress of the Iran-Iraq railroad, a project that has stalled since 2014 due to the security situation in Iraq.

A 17-kilometer section of the railroad inside Iranian territory that ends in Shalamchah has already been built.

Once finished, the project would hugely boost trade and passenger travel between Iran and Iraq while it would have larger implications for countries in the region.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The CEO of the Iran Railway Company declared the development of railway relations and cooperation with neighboring countries as one of the achievements of the Iranian government in the field of railways.

With the promotion of Iran’s membership in the CIS Rail Transportation Council, Iranian wagons will be able to travel abroad and carry cargo, Saeid Rasouli told IRNA on Friday.

The government of prudence and hope has provided the opportunity for the development of transit, while Iran achieved good results in the international arena last year, he added.

He said one of the most important achievements is the promotion of Iran’s status in the CIS Rail Transportation Council, from a supervisory to a permanent member.

The council consists of 16 CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries that have the same regulations, and all transport, technical, and financial protocols are politicized in that council, Rasouli said.

Until last year, Iran participated in the meetings of this council as an observer, without the right to vote, he said. “Last year, we requested the promotion of Iran’s membership, and in two meetings, we succeeded in promoting the membership with a majority of votes.”

He said that until now, the wagons of this union could come to Iran, but the wagons of Iran could not go beyond its borders, adding that as the most important achievement of this membership, Iranian wagons can now enter the CIS rail network.

“We have very good conditions in the field of international transport and cooperation with other countries,” Rasouli said, “In recent years, there has been a fundamental change in both international transport and the market of private companies.”

Iranian President to Inaugurate New Railroad Project Monday

According To Iran News, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will inaugurate a new railroad connecting the northwestern cities of Mianeh and Bostan Abad, which will shorten the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).

In remarks on Saturday, a deputy minister of roads and urban development, Kheirollah Khademi, said Rouhani will attend the inauguration ceremony of the railroad connecting Mianeh to Bostan Abad on Monday.

The railroad is designed to provide the people in Tehran quick and easy access to the northwestern parts of the country, he said.

The railroad is approximately 114 kilometers shorter than the existing rail routes, reducing the travel time by five and a half hours, the deputy minister added.

In recent years, the Iranian administration has ramped up efforts to boost the country’s railroad industry.

The agreement on the INSTC project was signed in 2012. Among the signatories and acceding countries are Russia, Iran, India, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, Oman and Syria. Bulgaria has an observer status in the project.

The INSTC project envisages the construction of transport and infrastructure facilities along the shipping route through India, Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia and North Europe.

The project is aimed at reducing the costs and the time of railroad and maritime deliveries between the countries located along the route.

TEHRAN – During a planned visit to New Delhi, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development and his Indian counterpart are expected to make the final decision about details of a deal on financing a railroad linking the Iranian southeastern cities of Zahedan and Chabahar, an official said.

In a meeting with India’s ambassador to Tehran, Iranian Deputy Road Minister Kheirollah Khademi highlighted the significance of financing for the major railroad project southeast of Iran.

In his trip to India, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi would hold talks on Tehran-New Delhi cooperation in the transportation industry and details of an agreement on Indian financing for the completion of Zahedan-Chabahar railroad would be finalized, Khademi added.

For his part, the envoy voiced New Delhi’s willingness to cooperate with Tehran in carrying out the railroad project, which would facilitate exports via Iran’s strategic port city of Chabahar.

In August 2017, India’s Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari visited Iran for talks on various issues, including the development of Chabahar.

Chabahar is the closest and best access point of Iran to the Indian Ocean and Iran has devised serious plans to turn it into a transit hub for immediate access to markets in the northern part of the Indian Ocean and Central Asia.

Based on a preliminary agreement signed between the two countries last in 2015, India was supposed invest $85 million over the construction of two berths at Chabahar port. It was halted, however, after India postponed the payment of its investment share.

TEHRAN– Railway official Hossein Ashouri said volume of transit in the country’s rail industry had grown by 61 per cent in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (began March 21).

Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Company for Operation Affairs Hossein Ashouri, speaking to a live IRIB program, said “in the nine-month period, one million and 150 thousand tons of goods were transported through rail.” He also estimated that the figure will rise to 1.6 million tons by year end.

“According to the national vision for the year 2020, railway transit capacity in the country is expected to climb to five million tons,” he continued.

Ashouri however underlining that building trust in goods owners and creating necessary infrastructure were main keys to reaching stipulated goals.

“Although studies of the Comprehensive Transport Plan began 10 years ago, they have failed to yield satisfactory outcomes,” contended the rail official.

He noted that support from the government and Foreign Ministry were prerequisites to better communications with neighboring countries and creation of transport corridors.

Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Company for Operation Affairs recalled that capacity of rail transport industry in Iran had plunged by 28 per cent during 2014-2015 mainly due to excessive bureaucracy and lack of profit-seeking visions.

“Current transit capacity in the country stands at 50 million tons though much of that remains untouched as a result of existing obstacles,” said the official.

Hossein Ashouri pointed to aging fleet as one bottleneck in development of railway industry asserting that a contract had been signed in the ongoing year for renovation and modernization of 65 thousand vehicles in the country’s road transport fleet.

He further referred to imbalance between supply and demand as yet another major problem faced by the road transport sector which needs to be tackled appropriately.
