TEHRAN (Iran News) Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi spoke by telephone with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, during which the two sides exchanged views on key regional issues.

The ministers expressed concern over the situation in Palestine and Lebanon amid violations of ceasefire agreements by the Israeli regime, as well as the continuation of its attacks on Gaza and Lebanon and the targeting of civilians.

They stressed the necessity for the international community to exert pressure on Israel to fully adhere to its commitments and to halt its policies of genocide, occupation, and expansionism.

Araghchi and Al Thani also reviewed the latest developments in Yemen, underlining the importance of safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and unity. “Qatar ”

In recent days, forces of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) have managed to take control of large parts of Yemen’s southern provinces.

The militant group has claimed that the objective of its incursions is the “expulsion of extremists and prevention of smuggling operations.”

According to reports, the STC forces have recently advanced in Hadramawt Province, capturing the city of Seiyun and gaining control of several oil fields in desert areas bordering Saudi Arabia.

TEHRAN (Iran News) Saad Abdullah Saad Al Mahmoud Al Shareef made the remarks during a ceremony hosted by the Qatari Embassy in the Iranian capital on Monday.

The event brought together a wide range of senior officials, economic figures, and members of foreign diplomatic missions. Qatar marks its National Day every year on 18 December, and similar celebrations are held by its embassies worldwide.

In his address, Al Mahmoud welcomed the guests and highlighted the foundations of bilateral ties.

“Qatar has important and distinguished relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and these relations are based on the principle of neighborliness, mutual respect and cooperation in all common fields,” he said.

He added that the successful trajectory of relations between the “two brotherly countries” demonstrates “the importance of constructive engagement in advancing development and prosperity across the region.”

The Qatari ambassador said Qatar and Iran, drawing on deep historical and popular bonds, “well understand the importance of developing joint cooperation, especially in the fields of trade, transport and energy, as well as economic and human partnerships,” which he noted serve the interests of both nations and reflect their longstanding cultural ties.

TEHRAN (Iran News) President Masoud Pezeshkian has headed to Qatar to attend an Arab-Islamic emergency summit which is held in the wake of growing Israeli aggression in the West Asia region.

The Iranian president left Tehran for Doha on Monday morning. In the Qatari capital, he will join other heads of state from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League (AL) for an emergency summit scheduled for later in the day.

The summit follows a preparatory meeting by foreign ministers of the OIC and the Arab League. That meeting was held on Sunday, in which Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi took part.

The summit is held at the request of Qatar after Israel attacked the Arab country last Tuesday.

The regime struck the headquarters of top officials of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, in Doha in an attempt to assassinate them who had gathered to review the latest US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The Doha summit also comes as Israel is escalating its military operations in the Gaza Strip where it is pressing ahead with a plan to occupy Gaza City, and continues to take civilian lives. Israel has killed more than 64,800 people and injured over 164,200 others in Gaza since it invaded the Palestinian territory on October 7, 2023. Women and children make up most of the casualties, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

Iran Launches Gas Pressure Boosting Project to Prevent Resource Migration to Qatar

TEHRAN (Iran News) Dr. Morteza Behroozifar, a faculty member at the Institute for International Energy Studies, told ILNA that Iran possesses substantial oil and gas reserves that could position the country as one of the leading producers and an influential exporter in the global energy market—without the need for imports.

Speaking about the importance of pressure-boosting operations and the lifting of sanctions in addressing Iran’s gas imbalance, Behroozifar warned that without consistent investment in oil and gas reservoirs and implementation of enhanced recovery methods, production volumes would naturally decline year by year.

“South Pars has been producing for over two decades now. If investment does not continue, our production imbalance will worsen annually. While the pressure-boosting project can partially address this issue, it requires advanced equipment, machinery, and technical expertise,” he explained.

Behroozifar emphasized that the pressure-boosting initiative could prevent gas from migrating toward Qatar, a country that shares the South Pars/North Dome field with Iran. He noted that the project is expected to increase Iran’s daily gas output by 250 million cubic meters over five years.

“However, we must also recognize that Qatar is rapidly expanding its operations and significantly increasing its LNG production capacity. Their current extraction from South Pars stands at around 80 million tons and is set to exceed 120 million tons. So assuming we can outpace Qatar just through pressure-boosting alone is overly optimistic,” he added.

The energy expert stressed that lifting sanctions would allow Iran to re-engage foreign contractors and import essential technologies and equipment. Without this access, Iran’s gas sector—and by extension, its entire economy—will continue to face increasing challenges.

“If negotiations succeed, we’ll have access to international financing and supply chains. Iran’s energy reserves are vast enough to not only meet domestic needs but also export substantial quantities,” Behroozifar stated. “Even if we import, it would be for re-export purposes.”

He further explained that resolving diplomatic tensions would allow Iran to simultaneously increase gas production and reduce domestic consumption through improved efficiency, ultimately leaving more gas available for export.

“Strategic action is needed. If we take the right steps, Iran could become a reliable gas exporter. But for now, we must prioritize ensuring our power plants and industries have enough fuel to get through the winter, given the current strain on both electricity and gas supplies throughout the year,” he warned.

Behroozifar concluded that resolving international issues could significantly ease Iran’s energy challenges within two years. “If we don’t make meaningful investments in oil, gas, electricity, and the wider economy, GDP will continue to decline. Net investment in the country is currently negative—we’re not only failing to grow, but we’re losing what we have. That means our economic situation will worsen each year unless we act.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) According to the Oil Ministry, the two officials discussed potential areas for joint ventures and strategic collaboration in oil and gas development.

Following the meeting, Minister Paknejad announced that a summit involving foreign ambassadors will be held next week. He emphasized that Iran welcomes the presence of foreign countries, especially its neighbors, in its oil industry.

Paknejad also stated that an official invitation has been extended to Qatar’s Energy Minister to attend the upcoming International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition in Iran. A special session organized by the Ministry’s International and Commercial Affairs Department is set to take place next week, with many foreign ambassadors expected to attend.

During that session, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) will present a detailed overview of the exhibition and its key features.

The Iranian minister noted that the objective of the upcoming meetings and exhibition is to attract international investors, particularly from neighboring countries. He specifically invited Qatar to participate in investment and joint ventures, highlighting Iran’s openness to Qatari involvement in various projects, especially in the oil sector.

Additionally, Paknejad referred to the upcoming event titled “Transformation in Investment and Upstream Oil and Gas Development”, scheduled for Monday, April 21, at the Summit Hall in Tehran. Ambassadors from various countries have been invited to this event, where more than 200 investment packages worth over $130 billion will be introduced. The event will include expert panels to elaborate on the investment opportunities available.

Increasing regional cooperation, especially in oil and gas, is one of the key priorities of Iran’s 14th administration. The government has repeatedly emphasized an active energy diplomacy, with the oil minister holding numerous meetings with senior officials from neighboring countries.

TEHRAN (Iran News) The draw left both in danger of missing out on the knockout stage, with Esteghlal on six points with a match remaining while Al Shorta only has three on the board.

“The draw was a fair result. We pressed more in the second half and were looking to win but were not in our regular form. We could have scored the second goal at the end of the first half, but it didn’t happen,” said Bakhtiarizadeh.

“We took risks in the final minutes and made changes to put pressure and score. We had players on both wings who did what we wanted but despite these advantages, we were unable to score,” he added.

Esteghlal will meet Qatar’s Al Rayyan SC on February 18 in Doha, Qatar.
