TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian government will soon divest parts of its shares in the Persian Gulf Star Oil Company (PGSCO) which runs the world’s largest refinery working on natural gas condensate.

IRNA said in a report that the divestment for PGSCO is possible now that authorities have agreed the company can pay its foreign exchange debts in the local currency, the rial.

The head of Iran’s Fara Bourse (IFB), a subsidiary market of the Tehran Stock Exchange, said listing would take place shortly after initial paperwork is concluded, Press TV reported.

“A part of shares of this company will be offered in the IFB market upon completion of required procedures for admission and listing,” said Amir Hamouni.

The state-run PGSCO owns the Persian Gulf Star Refinery which is responsible for over 40 percent of Iran’s total gasoline production of 105 million liters per day. It also produces high-quality diesel and jet fuel.

Since its launch about seven years ago, the refinery has turned Iran from a net importer of gasoline into a net exporter. It runs on natural gas condensate supplied from South Pars, the world’s largest gas field located in the Persian Gulf.

IRNA said feedstock capacity in the refinery has reached nearly half a million barrels per day (bpd) including that used in three physical phases with 120,000 bpd apiece and an extra 120,000 bpd of throughput which has become possible thanks to improvements carried out on current structures and installations.

A massive fourth phase is being developed for the Persian Gulf Star Refinery to further boost Iran’s fuel output and help find new export markets for the country.

According to the official website of the Guardian Council, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari made the remarks in a meeting with the directors and the staff of the Council on Saturday to brief them on the developments in the military and maritime fields.

Sayyari pointed out that the army has intensified its efforts in the southern Makran region on the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf over the past few years in line with the instructions of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

The military official said that enhancing Iran’s economic and military power in the seas is incorporated in the country’s Sixth Five-Year National Development Plan (March 2021).

He further criticized the lack of paying enough attention to the economic activities in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman despite huge potentials, noting that through planning and taking proper measures, the seas can be very good sources of food, income and power.

Sayyari further referred to Iran’s geostrategic position in the region or even on an international scale, noting “there are 9 strategic waterways in the world, 4 of which are located in the region Iran is situated.”

“That is why Arrogant powers (imperialist powers) seek presence in this region,” he went on to say.

The senior military official continued by saying that Iran is located in the center of the Energy Oval, which contains 90% of world’s gas resources .

Naval unit of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) seized a foreign tanker smuggling 700,000 liters of fuel, in an area near Farsi Island- a tiny, barren Iranian island in the Persian Gulf in August, as well as detaining a foreign ship smuggling one million liters of fuel, in the south of the Iranian southern Larak Island in July.

In early March, intelligence forces of the IRGC also dismantled a major fuel smuggling circle, seizing more than 10 million liters of fuel.

Japan will not join the United States in a security mission to protect merchant vessels passing through key Middle Eastern waterways and will instead consider deploying its military independently, the Yomiuri newspaper reported on Tuesday.

“Such a mission would be to collect information in the area based on a provision regarding survey and research activities under the Defense Ministry Establishment Law. The government is expected to make a final decision on the dispatch after the UN General Assembly meeting to be held in New York later this month,” notes the report.

“According to several sources, the government’s current plan is to perform the mission in areas around the Strait of Hormuz, in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait off Yemen, and elsewhere. If Iran gives its consent, the Japanese government plans to expand the scope of its mission to the Strait of Hormuz itself.”

US is leading a mission in the Persian Gulf, known as the international maritime security construct (IMSC). It has asked its allies to join the initiative. The United Kingdom, Bahrain and Australia are presently the only other countries to join the US in the Strait of Hormuz, but the UK has appealed to European allies to join the mission to safeguard shipping lanes.

Key Washington allies Germany and Japan have refused to join, and France has expressed reservations about the US’ provocative initiative.

On August 6, Israeli regime’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz said that they will be part of the US-led anti-Iran coalition. Iran reacted to the announcement, warning that Washington and Tel Aviv would be responsible for the consequences of such a decision.

Tehran has condemned US efforts to form a coalition, highlighting that regional countries can provide the region with security.

Mr. Mohammad Ali Dadvar said that the company has started preliminary measures to enhance its daily production of its gasoline to 47m liters.

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC NEWS

He added that with this measure, the daily production of its sweet naphtha will increase by 20,000 barrels and the capacity of gasoline-producing unit will be boosted and the amount of gasoline production will reach 47m liters per day by next week.

He reiterated that boosting the capacity for production is the major goal of the refinery in the Year of Economic Boom, adding that last year by following the resistance economy policies and the full support of all Islamic System bodies as well as efforts and sacrifices of experts and staff of the company, phases 2 and 3 of the Persian Gulf Star Refinery became operational and joined the network and the country became self-sufficient in producing gasoline.

Dadvar reiterated that in the current year with an eye on boosting the production boom, the company has put on agenda the policy of boosting the capacity for the strategic energy products like gasoline and it will retain the quality like before.

He then pointed to the effects of the world hegemony sanctions and increasing the pressure on Iran, adding that fortunately the country is not worried about the sanctions because the country is in a condition that can provide major parts of the refineries in the country.
