]]> TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari said that US sanctions have been a blessing for the country’s new technology-based firms (NTBFs).

“We cannot say that the sanctions have not been effective; they have brought many advantages for the NTBFs and created a good market for them,” Sattari said in an interview with the Persian-language Iran newspaper on Wednesday, reported Fars News Agency.

He added that start-ups in Iran sold products worth nearly $26.6 billion last year.

Sattari also said that Iran stands among the first 10 world states in many fields of engineering, including mathematics, construction and biotech, and enjoys the biggest start-ups in the region.

Last month, Sattari said that Iran was moving towards an oil-free economy with the help of Iranian NTBFs.

“The presence of over 5,000 NTBFs and a bigger number of start-ups in Iran is proof of the fact that, equipped with an active technology ecosystem, the country is on the right track to reach a technology-based economy, reducing reliance on oil revenues,” he said.

]]> TEHRAN (Iran News) – A new technology-based firm (NTBF) in Iran succeeded in the production of phosphate fertilizers and saved $80 million for the country by the reduction of imports of the product.

CEO of the NTBF, Homayoun Moradi, said on Saturday that Iran had in the past imported 400,000 tons of phosphate fertilizers, but the domestic manufacturing of the product decreased the volume of imports, reported Fars News Agency.

Moradi said that his company had also succeeded in the production of 46 other products in the biotechnological, agricultural, livestock, and human probiotics fields.

“Fortunately, we have always been pioneers in the production of science, and we still rank first in the Southwest Asia region in this sphere,” said the director of the Center for the Development of Strategic Technologies in Iran’s Presidential Department for Science and Technology, Esmaeil Qaderifar.

Qaderifar added that Iran ranked 64th in the world in the Global Innovation Index (GII) in 2019, and foresaw a much better standing for the country by the end of this year.

In relevant remarks in 2019, Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari announced that Iran was the most developed country in the region in advancing scientific knowledge.

“Iran ranks first in science in the region by having nearly 4,000 NTBFs,” Sattari told reporters in the southern city of Bushehr.

He added that the NTBF in Iran has sold about $6 billion worth of their products during the year to March 19, 2019.

“Now, Iran ranks first in the region in science and technology,” Sattari said, addressing a forum on stem cells in Tehran.

Sattari underscored that Iran’s progress in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine had opened a door to the development of a technology-based economy.
