TPO considers launching medical equipment export consortium

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) has stressed the need for establishing a consortium of medical equipment exporters in order to increase the quality and export capacity of the products made in this sector, the TPO portal reported.

Alireza Peyman-Pak made the remarks during a visit to a knowledge-based medical equipment production company in Tehran on Saturday.

The TPO head’s visit to the mentioned company comes as, during Peyman-Pak’s recent visit to Serbia, the authorities of this country had expressed interest in the import of knowledge-based products, especially medical equipment from Iran.

Peyman-Pak said Eastern European countries can be a gateway for the entry of Iranian products into the European Union, adding: “Meanwhile, the formation of a medical equipment export consortium will ensure the presence of qualified traders and companies in the destination markets to promote and maintain Iran’s reputation and brand.”

During the visit to the company, the official emphasized the government’s complete support for the production and export of knowledge-based products.

He further stressed Serbia’s interest in trade with Iran and said: “Trade Promotion Organization is doing everything in its power for the presence of knowledge-based companies in new and green markets like Serbia.”

The TPO head also announced reaching an agreement with Russia’s Sberbank to support joint production of knowledge-based products in Russia and called this an effective step to solve the problems of knowledge-based product manufacturers to be present in other countries.

He stressed the need to remove obstacles to the production and export of knowledge-based products and said: “Today, various countries have realized the quality of Iranian knowledge-based products, and for this reason, in meetings and negotiations, they demand imports, joint investments, and launching production lines in their countries.”

AEOI imports COVID-19 rapid diagnostic devices

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) imported several COVID-19 rapid diagnosis test devices into the country.

Deputy Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and Director of Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center Javad Karimi Sabet revealed on Sunday.

While appreciating the unflinching and relentless efforts of all officials at the Ministry of Health and Medical Education especially the medical staff in the country for taking drastic measures in the fight against coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, he expounded on the recent measures taken by the Organization in using capacities of nuclear technology in the sector of public health.

All departments, affiliated to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) including Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center have considered helping the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in the fight against COVID-19 as its duty and have spared no efforts in this regard, he emphasized.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he pointed to the fair cooperation of the Organization with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and added, “with the continuous and effective follow-ups of the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center and Intl. and Legal Affairs Deputy Office of the Organization over the past two months, we managed to take advantage of the capacities of our cooperation with IAEA.”

In this way, “we could receive a number of portable X-ray imaging devices, users’ personal protective equipment, several COVID-19 rapid diagnostic devices, known as RT-PCR, along with the relevant equipment, valued at more than €200,000, from the International Atomic Energy Agency.”

Shabnam Nematzadeh sentenced to 20 years of prison

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Judiciary Spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaeili said that Shabnam Nematzadeh has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for economic corruption.

In a Tuesday press conference, the spokesman said that the court has also sentenced Nematzadeh to 74 lashes and fined with some $345,000 on charges of creating ‘major disruption in the distribution of public goods’.

Shabnam Nematzadeh, along with the other convict Ahmad Reza Lashkaripour, has also been permanently barred from public service.

She was arrested in September on charges of economic corruption in the medical industry. She is the daughter of Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, former minister of industry, mines, and trade.

The spokesman also said that the case of Vice-President Jahangiri’s brother, who has also been charged with corruption, will be sent to the court and proceedings have already begun.

Earlier this year, the president’s brother had been convicted of bribery and corruption, for which he was sentenced to five years in prison. The spokesman said he had previously been sentenced to seven years in prison but his sentence later reduced to five years.

Esmaili also said Fereydoon might face further charges in other cases.

Fereydoon’s case had been ongoing for more than two years after dozens of lawmakers at the Iranian parliament had demanded him to be brought to justice to face financial corruption charges.

Mehdi Clinic be operational by 2020

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of Tehran’s Imam Khomeini (RA) Hospital Complex Khosro Sadeghniyyat said that the most equipped public hospital of the country, Mehdi Clinic, will be launched by the end of next year (to start March 21, 2020).

He made the remarks on Wed. in an interview with IRNA and added, “with its 800 equipped and modern hospital beds, “Mehdi Clinic” Hospital will be the most equipped highly-specialized hospital that will be put into operation next year (to start March 21, 2020).”

This equipped hospital is a subsidiary to Imam Khomeini (RA) Hospital Complex, he added

With its 1,500 equipped hospital beds, Imam Khomeini (RA) Hospital Complex is the largest hospital in Iran and the Middle East region, he said, adding, “upon construction and launch of a new hospital, the capacity of hospital bed would hit about 2,300.”

With the coordination made in this regard, Mehdi Clinic Hospital will render quality services to people with public tariff as of the next year, Sadeghniyyat added.

Iran-Russia medical equipment cooperation to expand

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran-Russia medical equipment cooperation will be expanded and developed in the related fields of medicine.

For this purpose, the deputies’ health ministries of Iran and Russia met and held talks in Moscow on Tuesday and emphasized the need for the expansion of Iran-Russia medical equipment cooperation and export of medicine and medical equipment.

This meeting was held in Moscow’s Holiday Hotel in the presence of Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei in line with the implementation of joint cooperation commission between the two countries and within the framework of a daylong seminar on the rules and procedures of registration of medicines and medical devices in the Russian Federation.

Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei said that organizing such seminar will expand and develop bilateral relations in the field of medicine and medical industries.

The two countries of Iran and Russia have great potentials for the development of cooperation and collaboration in relevant field, he said, adding, “upon signing and sealing Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Iranian side found a complementary capacity for its potentials in this field in order to present its products and capabilities in lucrative Eurasian market.”

The ambassador also urged Iranian medical agents both in public and private sectors to take advantage of this opportunity.

For his part, Russian Deputy Health Minister Dimitri Kastinov said, “organizing this meeting had been approved in 15th Joint Commission Meeting and we believe that today’s discussion will provide a framework for exporting medicine to the Eurasian Economic Union.”

US economic terrorism seriously hurting EB patients in Iran

The lives of thousands of Iranian children suffering from EB have been threatened in the past months due to a shortage of wound dressings in the wake of the US’ unjust sanctions against Iran.

EB is a group of inherited connective tissue diseases that cause blisters in the skin and mucosal membranes. The blisters may appear in response to minor injury, even from heat, rubbing, scratching or adhesive tape. In severe cases, the blisters may occur inside the body, such as the lining of the mouth or the stomach.

Iran used to purchase wound dressings from a Swedish company annually and provide patients with them free of charge.

However, since last year, when Washington reimposed sanctions against Iran, the company has refused to sell the dressings to Iran. No suitable replacement has been found for the dressings, yet.

This comes as the United States claims its sanctions do not target the Iranian medical sector. And that is how the Europeans, especially Sweden, who claim to be supporters of human rights, are playing with the lives of Iranian children suffering from epidermolysis bullosa.

So far, due to brutal sanction and the embargo on the import of the products, some 300 EB patients’ conditions have deteriorated and seven of them have lost their lives.

15 countries to attend Iran Health 2019

Executive director of Iran Health Exhibition Amin Taheri said that the event is highly effective in boosting exports, especially while the country is under sanctions and is going through currency fluctuations.

He noted that trade delegates are invited form 15 countries to participate in this exhibition and their presence would be beneficial to boosting exports.

These trade delegations are from China, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Italy, Britain, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Oman and Russia, he added.

The 22nd International Exhibition for Medical, Laboratory, Equipment and Pharmaceutical (Iran Health 2019), as one of the largest events in the field of medical equipment and supplies in the region, will be held on 9-12 June 2019.

Iran Health is the main platform for the international medical manufacturers to demonstrate their products and services annually at the International Permanent Fairground in Tehran. This event showcases and covers a wide spectrum of products like medical devices, health care services, laboratory equipment, hospital equipment, pharmaceutical products and services associated with this field.

Exports of medical equipment to rise 10-fold

Iran’s consultant to the health and medical education minister announced that the country plans to increase its exports of medical equipment up to ten times to hit $240 million by the end of the present Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2019).

Making the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the 15th International Exhibition of Medical Equipment, Dentistry and Related Industry in the northeastern city of Mashhad, Reza Masaeli, who is also one of the directors at Health and Medical Education Ministry, informed that exports of medical equipment stood at $24 million in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2018).

“Presently, Iran exports medical equipment to 255 countries and has its own pavilion at four of the most prominent international exhibitions,” he said.

“Some 2,200 Iranian companies and 6,100 representatives of foreign companies are active in this sector in Iran,” he added.

The 15th International Exhibition of Medical Equipment, Dentistry and Related Industry, running at Mashhad international fairground, will wrap up on Sunday.

The event is hosting 70 Iranian production, service, and business units as well as several representative companies from Germany, Italy, the U.S., Japan, China, Poland, Ukraine, Pakistan, and Taiwan active in medical equipment and dental instruments.

The participants showcase their latest products and achievements in this sector to the audience.
