TEHRAN (Iran News) In a press briefing held on Kish Island, Mohammad Kabiri, the newly appointed CEO of the Kish Free Zone Organization, unveiled an ambitious development plan titled “Kish 1414,” positioning the island as a model for seventh-generation free zones by 2035.

Kabiri announced that 13 investment projects worth 330 trillion rials (approximately $660 million) were finalized in the past half-year, marking the highest investment influx in the last three years. He attributed this success to comprehensive reforms and new strategic priorities.

A notable breakthrough came with the resolution of a 20-year dispute over 110 hectares of land, formerly under contention with the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order. This settlement allows for the formal documentation of over 10,000 privately-owned plots that previously lacked official titles.

In another legal victory, a French court ruled in favor of returning the land involved in the “Gol-e Shargh” project—valued at over $1 billion—to the Kish Free Zone, although the organization is liable for certain penalties, which are under negotiation.

The development of Kish’s airport is central to these plans. A new runway and advanced navigation systems, including an ILS, will be inaugurated during Eid al-Ghadir, backed by an investment of 15 trillion rials.

Health services are being expanded with the number of specialists increasing to over 100. Free insurance coverage continues for sanitation workers, locals, and teachers, while cancer screening programs are being launched in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

In education, construction of 10 new schools is underway, and specialized university programs in artificial intelligence will be supported via grants in partnership with the University of Tehran.

Transport upgrades include the addition of 120 new taxis, port expansion, and planning for Iran’s first aircraft maintenance center (MRO) on the island. In communication, six new towers will be installed to enhance connectivity.

Kabiri highlighted upcoming mega-projects, such as: The transformation of Kish’s second-largest underground oil field, worth $7 billion, into an investment hub; Creation of a 27-hectare exhibition city; and expansion of the Aftab Port and development of Hendurabi as a green island.

He emphasized transitioning from land-based revenue to sustainable income sources and announced active negotiations with 17 investors to establish a southern health district.

In closing, Kabiri invited domestic and foreign investors to participate in these large-scale initiatives. He expressed confidence that with the implementation of “Kish 1414,” investment attraction will triple, turning Kish into a national model of a seventh-generation free zone.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by senior maritime officials including PMO Deputy Head Hassan Beyk-Mohammadlou and Head of the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) Hossein Shiva.

In a joint meeting with Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mr. Rostam Qasemi, Mr. Mohammad announced readiness of Kish Island for investment for the Qatar World Cup and serving the visitors of this big soccer event.

Mohammad said that free trade and special economic zones in Iran seek to leverage their economic and tourism capacities to host fans and teams participating in World Cup 2022.

He said that development of free zones in sectors like tourism, economic investment, and health tourism is among top priorities of the secretariat and the World Cup could be a new beginning for the objective.

The official also said that the construction of several hotels, airport terminals and runways, maritime passenger ports and terminals, sports fields and bodybuilding gyms is in progress to ensure Iran’s contribution to the international event.

He then pointed to the huge number of tourists to Kish Island during Nowruz holidays and said the island hosted the visitors with no certain problem but he reiterated that the island should resolve all problems and some of the structural projects are ready to come on stream.

Roads and Urban Development Minister also said that Iran would offer support to Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup in residence and air and maritime transportation.

Qasemi said that Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi had the issue on agenda during his visit to Qatar earlier this year.

Iran’s support will include providing residence and air and maritime transportation for passengers and tourists destined for Qatar according to agreements between Raisi and Qatar’s Emir, Qasemi said.

He added that he would have meetings with Qatari officials next week and Kish Island would play a pivotal role in Iran’s support of the major international event, but Iran’s southern coastal cities could also participate.

Kish Island will host a meeting between Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Qatar’s Minister of Transport and Communications.

Speaking at a press conference on the eve of November 11, National Kish Day, Jaafar Ahangaran felicitated the day and emphasized the importance of the position of the region in modelling the national culture and law-abiding in the country, noting that the day should be the day of enlightenment of the public opinion.

Ahangaran said that Kish Island is indebted its progress to the efforts of all people and managers who worked hard in the past and they should be honored.

He termed the island as a symbol for positive popular governing,adding that easing travel of all people to the island is a guarantee for the bright future for investors and economic activists in the region.

He noted that citizens of Kish Island are law-abiding people and they should be honored deservedly.

Then head of organizing committee of Kish Island Ceremony Mr. Saeed Poor Ali hailed the former managing director of the organization for naming November 20 as the National Kish Day, adding that this is a good opportunity for better introduction of Kish Island in national and regional level.

He said that due to curbing COVID and vaccination of people in the country as well as good weather have been effective for the rush of travelers to this island and almost 80 percent of hotels have been occupied by the guests in recent days.

He then highlighted major cultural, sport and recreational programs of the organization for marking the national Kish Island.

The head of the public relations of the organization Seyed Alireza Alawi introduced the programs for marking the day and called on media to cover the activities for grandeur of Kish Island.

TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson quashed rumors about a comprehensive cooperation plan between Tehran and Beijing, saying the old trick of using false information to get details of the agreement will get nowhere.

In a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Seyed Abbas Mousavi said “Iran-China comprehensive cooperation plan” is a clear roadmap that sets the stage for relations between the two major countries in future, “when China, as the world’s top economic power in the near future, and Iran, as the great power in the West Asia region, can fulfill the common interests and stand against the pressure of bullies with complementary relations that are independent of the traditional and hegemonic Western powers.”

The spokesman underlined that the cooperation agreement between the two countries neither entails any Chinese control over the Iranian islands, nor any presence of military forces, nor the “other illusions.”

“The old trick of falsification and release of wrong information in order to get the right details and information, which is seriously pursued by the enemies of interests of the two nations, will go nowhere,” Mousavi added.

“There is no news of the transfer of Iranian islands, now the presence of the military or other illusions,” former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called these rumors an old “trick.”

There are many small islands off the coast of Iran, some of which are strategic and important for navigation of the Persian Gulf. Iran also has a free trade zone on Kish island, and Iran has a deal with India about its Chabahar port, where there is also a free trade industrial area.

Meanwhile the secretariat of Free Zones High Council in a statement refuted allegations that some parts of southern shores and Kish Island have been transferred to China.

The statement accused aliens and foreign media of spreading such fake news to ruin the relation between both states.

Meanwhile Head of Presidential Office Mahmoud Vaezi described Iran-China document as a usual agreement between the two countries, saying foreign media started sabotaging relations between Tehran and Beijing.

Elaborating on Iran-China 25-year-old agreement, Vaezi said it is a usual document signed aiming to strengthen relations.

The government has always been committed to approving whatever is necessary and also whatever is related to parliament, he said, adding that there is no secret.

Referring to confusion caused by social media for people, he said the propaganda is supported from outside the country.

Iranian constitution and regulatory bodies will spare no efforts for clarifying the issues, he noted.

Commenting on the upcoming meeting between heads of three branches of power, Vaezi said the goal has always been outside the country to create a rift between people and officials.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian Government spokesman Ali Rabiee said some of these suspicions are a real question of public opinion and respectable.

“We do not have a secret issue with the people that need to be answered, and it is the suspicions that have been formed in the minds of the elites and the people,” he added.

Rabiee said that the idea of a cooperation agreement with China has been gradually announced since its inception, adding, “We announced to the public when the Chinese government responded to the Iranian draft, and even when it said it was ready to negotiate.”

The government spokesman noted that the final talks are underway to reach an agreement with China, adding that the final agreement will be announced at any time.

Teams from Iran, Russia, China, Venezuela, Syria, and South Africa will compete in the 10-day event while Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Indonesia are taking part as observer countries.

Iran also hosted the depth competition last year in Nowshahr which ended with Iranian team winning the title.

Each team in the depth event consists of eight individuals – six divers and two reserves. The competition will be held in seven stages of water obstacle course, rescue on water, flange, welding, rendering first aid to the drowned, maintaining the life of the emergency vessel, and close space entry.

Flotilla Admiral Parviz Salimipanah, spokesman and head of the event’s committee, said in the opening ceremony that two referees from Iran and five from participating countries will judge the competitions. He went on say 128 foreign individuals have arrived on Kish Island and all the teams have managed to successfully go through each item of the event without suffering from injuries or any damage to their equipment.

“The 2019 Army Games will include 32 competitions on the territory of 10 countries (Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Iran, India, China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Uzbekistan). Over 5,000 servicemen from over 200 teams will take part in the games,” the defense ministry was quoted by Tass as saying. Army Games will wrap up on August 17.

In another meeting between Sharafbafi and Iran’s Ambassador to Muscat Mohammad Reza Nouri Shahroudi, they discussed the ways to boost aviation cooperation between Iran and Oman.

Implementation of cargo flights for strengthening activities of the Iranian industrial craftsmen was also discussed during the meeting.

The Iranian ambassador highlighted the important role of the country’s air fleet in developing political, cultural and trade relations between the two countries, and stressed establishing new routes and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, it was decided to review the new flight routes through Kish Air Airport’s Business and Airport Services Department to enhance the satisfaction of Kish Airline passengers.
