TEHRAN (Iran News) – Satellites in the row in Iran to be sent into space. Iran is designing a number of satellites, some of which are in the row to be launched into space, IRNA reported on Friday.

Pars Plus satellite with an imaging resolution of five meters, Pars 2 with a five-meter resolution multispectral imaging system, and Rasam satellite with four meters resolution multispectral imaging system are among the satellites that are being designed.

The telecommunication Nahid 1 satellite, Zoljanah, Nahid 2, Simorgh, Remote Sensing Tollou, Pars 1, and Zafar 2 are being designed and produced to put satellites at LEO (Low Earth Orbit).

Iran’s strategic purpose for developing the space industry is to expedite space activities including the aerospace industry, tapping the country’s scientific capacities, commercialization of space and space service.

When rockets launch satellites, they put them into orbit in space. There, gravity keeps the satellite on its required orbit – in the same way that gravity keeps the Moon in orbit around Earth.

LEO is generally defined as an orbit below an altitude of approximately 2,000 kilometers (1,200 mi). Given the rapid orbital decay of objects below approximately 200 kilometers (120 mi), the commonly accepted definition for LEO is between 160 kilometers (99 mi) (with a period of about 88 minutes) and 2,000 kilometers (1,200 mi) (with a period of about 127 minutes) above the Earth’s surface. Because it’s so close to Earth, satellites must travel very fast so gravity won’t pull them back into the atmosphere. Satellites in LEO speed along at 17,000 miles per hour (27,359 kilometers per hour)! They can circle Earth in about 90 minutes.

On the occasion of launching “Zafar” Satellite into space, Iran’s ICT minister in a tweet wrote, “six satellites are ready for launching into the orbit.”

He went on to say that Amirkabir University of Technology started construction operation of a precision measuring satellite which is unique of its kind.

“Zafar” telecommunications satellite is as heavy as 113 kg in a way that its operational life in the orbit is at least 1.5 years, ICT minister stressed.

“Zafar” telecommunications satellite will be sent to space before the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations in the current year, he said, adding, “This satellite was delivered by the Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) to Iran Space Agency (ISA) last week.”

Accordingly, making decisions for injection time of this satellite in the orbit shall be borne by the Ministry of Defense and Launcher Group, Jahromi stated.

Zafar also carries S&F consignment which provides features such as broadcasting a single message to all users, one-way voice communication between two users, sending a message to 256 direct users.

Preparing map of lands, basic map, civil development map, agricultural fields map, map on changes in lands natural environment and jungles, monitoring developments in seasonal and perpetual lakes, identifying damaged areas after the crisis and upgrading structural maps are among missions of the satellite.

Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi announced in a post on his Twitter account on Sunday that the Zafar (victory) satellites have successfully passed the tests.

Lauding the efforts by the young Iranian scientists working on the project, he said the satellites would be deployed to the space center on Sunday and the process of launching them into orbit will soon kick-off.

Azari Jahromi also hailed the production of the homegrown satellites and satellite-carrier as a major step in space research activities.

Zafar is a monitoring satellite, which will be sent into a geostationary orbit that is a circular orbit around 36,000 kilometers (22,320 miles) above the Earth’s equator.

The satellite will reportedly have a lifespan of one year and six months and will capture images and transmit them to stations on earth.
