TEHRAN (Iran News) – Close to two million tons of the dormant capacity of Iran’s petrochemical complexes will become operational in the next Iranian calendar year (to start March 20, 2020), said a manager of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) on Saturday.

Describing as favorable the trend reflected by Iran’s production of petrochemicals, Jalal Mirhashemi, the NPC’s production control manager, added that over the past years, part of the total capacity of the domestic petrochemical complexes has not been used, IRNA reported.

Plans have been drawn up to use this dormant capacity in the next year in cooperation with domestic petrochemical holdings and complexes.

He described as a priority of the NPC in the coming years, removing obstacles to boosting the country’s petrochemical production capacity.

The ground can be prepared for increasing Iran’s production and exports of petrochemicals by making optimum use of the installed capacity in the domestic petrochemical industry and helping inactive units become operational, Mirhashemi said.

“By identifying production bottlenecks and removing them according to their priority, it would be possible to make maximum use of the capacity created earlier through hefty investments in the domestic petrochemical sector without the obligation of spending heavily.

In addition, he stressed, the NPC plans to take the necessary measures to increase the diversity of the country’s petrochemicals, meet the domestic need for such products and increase its share of export markets through greater coordination with the Oil Ministry, the National Iranian Gas Company as well as Iranian petrochemical complexes and holdings.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Dozens of European firms have announced readiness to cooperate with Iranian companies in the petroleum industry within the framework of a European trade mechanism, an Iranian official said on Saturday.

Reza Padidar, chairman of the Energy Committee of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, told a news conference in the Iranian capital that those European companies want Iran’s Oil Ministry to provide guarantees for domestic private firms for such cooperation, Tasnim reported.

“In recent years, in the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, we have negotiated with 114 small and medium-sized European companies, of which 32 have finally announced their willingness to cooperate with Iranian companies in the oil industry, but these companies have made a condition,” he said.

“They are ready to cooperate with Iranian companies in the form of INSTEX, if the Oil Ministry guarantees private companies,” the official said, referring to the European financial mechanism meant to circumvent American sanctions.

France, Germany and the United Kingdom launched INSTEX in January as they sought to facilitate trade with Iran after the United States unilaterally withdrew from an international agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

Padidar said the Chamber of Commerce has recently held talks with the Oil Ministry to provide necessary conditions for domestic companies to facilitate Iranian and European oil cooperation.

“The economic structure of the country needs to change due to political and social changes. The first step is identifying the capacities, and after that, we need a strategy,” he said.

Padidar said Iran’s first strategy should be aimed at production for the domestic market.

“There are ample capacities in the domestic market, but a significant part of it has been seized by imported commodities, this is while Iran’s domestic demand can be met with domestic capacities,” he said.

Entitled as Eram, the gas field is estimated to hold 19 trillion cubic feet (540 bcm) of natural gas in its reserve, of which 13 tcf (382 bcm) is recoverable, according to Shana.

The field is located 200 kilometers to the south of Shiraz, 60 km to the north of Assaluyeh and 25 km to the east of Khonj County, and stretches some 50 kilometers with an average width of 5 km.

The exploration department of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said the field was discovered after years of serious endeavors by Iranian experts in Eram District in Fars Province.

Experimental results show that the field should contain quality gas.

The deputy director of development and engineering affairs at the National Iranian Oil Company said the Eram gas field in Fars would bring in 40 billion dollars for the country.

News about the discovery of the gas field surfaced on October 9, with reports saying that the offshore field was discovered 3,900 meters deep in the ground, and was capable of production for 16 years of gas consumption in capital Tehran, which makes up 11% of the country’s total gas consumption.

Tehran (Iran News) – Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said on Sunday that Iran will use any possible way to export its oil, stressing that exporting crude was the country’s legitimate right.

“We will use every possible way to export our oil and we will not succumb to America’s pressure because exporting oil is Iran’s legitimate right,” Zanganeh said.

Iran’s crude oil exports were cut deeply when the United States re-imposed sanctions after President Donald Trump exited last year from Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.

Speaking to the press on the same day, the official emphasized that Iran wants positive ties with all the countries in the region, adding that China’s national petroleum company had pulled out of developing phase 11 of the country’s giant South Pars gas field.

“We want to be friends with all regional countries. Our mutual enemy is outside the Middle East… I have no problem to meet with Saudi Arabia’s oil minister”, he stated.

*** Petropars to develop SP phase 11

Zanganeh also said that China’s CNPC had pulled out of a contract to develop South Pars Phase 11, adding Iranian Petropars Company would develop the project alone.

“China has pulled out of developing the phase 11 of South Pars field and Petropars will carry out the job,” he said.

In 2015, National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) signed a contract with a consortium of Total, CNPC International and Petropars to develop the offshore project in the Persian Gulf waters.

Following the U.S.’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal back in May 2018 and imposition of new sanctions and restrictions for foreign companies working in Iran, Total pulled out of the contract.

“The fate of the South Pars Phase 11 has been determined and Petropars will continue developing the project alone and by the end of the this [Iranian calendar] year (March 19, 2020), the first jacket will be installed in the phase for a platform with 500 mcf/d of gas production capacity,” Zanganeh said during a visit to MAPNA Group’s turbine workshop near Tehran.

“According to observations, despite western media’s claims, no successful cyber-attacks have been carried out on oil facilities and vital infrastructures,” Afta Strategic Management Center, a body working under Iran’s Presidency, said in a statement on Saturday.

Some media had claimed on Saturday that a number of Iranian servers and websites, including petrochemical firms, have come cyber-attacks.

following of the article, this is one of the successful cyber-attack in history:

Robert Tappan Morris and the Morris Worm (1988):

Creator of the first computer worm transmitted through the Internet, Morris, a student at Cornell Univeristy in the USA, claimed it his progeny was not aimed to harm but was made for the innocuous intent to determine the vastness of the cyberspace.

Things went pear-shaped when a the worm encountered a critical error and morphed into a virus which replicated rapidly and began infecting other computers resulting in denial of service. The damage? 6000 computers were reportedly affected causing an estimated $10-$100 million dollars in repair bills.

While this event could be pinned as being an unfortunate accident, it no doubt played a part in inspiring the calamitous distributed denial-of-service (DdoS) type of attacks we see today.

He said the platform was developed for production of 500 million cubic feet per day of gas.

Once operational, the platform will bring Phase 22-24 production capacity to 42 mcm/d.

The structure will be installed at its designated offshore spot by an HL 5000 barge, he said.

All the engineering, construction and implementation phases of Phase 22-24 project have been carried out by Iranian experts and developers, Sadeghi further added.

He also stated that construction of the last platform belonging to the project had gained 77.94% progress and would be prepared for loading in the near future.

Phases 22-24 will collectively produce 56 mcm of sour gas, 75,000 barrels gas condensate and 400 tons of sulfur on a daily basis. They will also produce 1 million tons of LPG and 1 million tons of ethane per year.

SP is the world’s largest gas field is shared between Iran and Qatar. It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which, called South Pars, is in Iran’s territorial waters. The remaining 6,000 sq.km, known as North Dome, is in Qatar’s territorial waters.

According to NIGC, Mehdi Jamshidi Dana, director of dispatching at NIGC, said that in terms of the volume of gas distribution, Iran is second to none in the world.

He said his department was responsible for managing distribution of gas in the gas network, according to SHANA.

He added that an equivalent of 5 million barrels of crude oil of gas was being distributed in the country.

Iran has sought to increase its daily production at oil and gas fields despite sanctions imposed by the United States which restricts Tehran’s ability for export.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh had said earlier this year that Iran’s gas production at South Pars gas field, the largest in the world which the country shares with Qatar, had already exceeded 21.5 billion feet (610 million cubic meters) per day, adding that Iran’s share of daily production at the field had dwarfed that of Qatar.

According to NIGC, quoted by Shana, Hassan Montazer Torbati said that only the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan were remained to be fully covered by the network.

Speaking in a meeting of the board of directors of Azarbaijan Sharghi Gas Company, Torbati said people’s satisfaction was the best criteria for assessing NIGC’s services, therefore, “we endeavor to offer better services day by day.”

Today, gas distribution is in a suitable state and distribution of gas has been accelerated thanks to the supportive law in the budget bill of 2014, he said.

The official noted that Iran is one of the few countries in the world where 95 percent of its population have access to the gas network which is an indication of unparalleled social justice in the country.

According to the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), based on the country’s macro policies to increase the share of natural gas in the energy mix of the country due to its numerous advantages such as environmental sustainability, distribution of social justice, etc., Iran as the world’s third largest gas producer in recent years has focused on increasing its share of the global gas market.

Based on this policy, the country’s gas production capacity has been on the agenda since the 2000s, with the development of the South Pars gas field, which has seen constant production growth ever since.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran’s natural gas production capacity has increased from 89 bcm in 1979 to over 3,754 bcm in 2018.

Regarding the implementation of development plans for gas refinement, provided that all development plans come on-stream by the end of the Sixth Development Plan to 2021, the total NIGC gas refinery capacity would cross 1,200 million cubic meters per day.

The latest BP survey reveals that by the end of 2017, Iran was ranked the third largest natural gas producer in the world with more than 223 billion cubic meters of natural gas, enjoying a 6.1-percent share in the global gas market.
