TEHRAN (Iran News) The showcase featured Iran’s world-renowned Persian carpets alongside Malaysia’s traditional Songket and Batik textiles, highlighting the rich craftsmanship and cultural histories of both nations. Malaysia’s Ambassador to Iran, H.E. Khairi bin Omar, emphasized the significance of such exchanges in fostering bilateral relations. He praised the artistry of Malaysia’s Songket and Batik, calling them “living art forms” that represent the country’s cultural identity and creative spirit.

A key feature of the event was a presentation by Mr. Arsin, head of the distinguished family-run Arsin Rug Gallery, which has been a prominent figure in Persian rug artistry since its founding in 1910. Mr. Arsin discussed the evolution of Persian rugs and their cultural importance, calling them “artistic treasures and symbols of Iran’s heritage.”

Guests were captivated by the range of Persian carpets on display, from antique to modern designs, each reflecting the intricate craftsmanship of Iranian artisans. In addition, embassy staff provided insight into the weaving of Songket, known as the ‘Queen of Fabrics’ in Malaysia, and the vivid patterns of Batik, created using the traditional wax-resist method.

The evening was further enriched by a musical performance blending Iranian and Malaysian elements, symbolizing the unity between the two cultures. Both Ambassador Khairi and Mr. Arsin expressed optimism for future collaborations, not only in the arts but also in broader diplomatic and commercial efforts.

The event successfully showcased the importance of preserving cultural heritage while building stronger ties between Iran and Malaysia.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Using national currencies and mechanism of barter trade are two solutions for developing the level of economic relations between Iran and Malaysia.

Charge d’Affaires of Embassy of Malaysia to Tehran Mr. Mohammad Nizam Halimi met the manager of bilateral and multilateral relations of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Ms. Niloofar Assadi and during the meeting both sides explored ways for developing current level of cooperation between the two states.

Ms. Assadi emphasized cooperation between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur in the field of industry, tourism, hoteliering and production of halal food, and added that in the production of halal food, Malaysia is the most successful Islamic country and therefore both countries can increase the level of cooperation in this field.

She expressed her dissatisfaction over the decline in the volume of trade exchange between the two states and called for improving the cooperation in different fields.

Then she raised two suggestions for improving the ties, stating that one solution is to replace foreign currencies with the national currencies in the bilateral trade through the cooperation of the banks of the two countries, and the other one is to launch a mechanism for barter trade of the required goods by the two countries, and agro and food products will be the priority.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nizam Halimi, for his part blamed the unilateral sanctions against Iran for the drastic decline in the trade between Iran and Malaysia, and emphasized that most of Malaysian companies are keen to cooperate with Iran and to enter Iran’s market, and therefore a mechanism is needed to pave the way for them.

He then pointed to the 17th International Malaysia International Halal Showcase ( MIHAS) 2021 which will be hosted by Malaysia and urged Iranian enthusiasts to take part in this big trade event and called for colorful presence and participation of Iranian traders, and companies in the fields of halal food, Islamic investment and halal cosmetics and hygiene industries.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – In a meeting with the Malaysian deputy foreign minister the Head of TPOI underlined the vitality of boosting economic ties among Muslim countries.

“The development of relations with Islamic countries, especially Malaysia, which is recognized as a successful example in the Islamic world, is very important, and the expansion of economic relations between Muslim countries should be on the agenda,” Head of Iran Trade Promotion Organization Hamid Zadboom said in his meeting with Malaysia’s Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar.

Referring to U.S. sanctions, Zadboom said: “Expanding relations and cooperation with friendly and brother nations will make these sanctions ineffective.”

the neighboring states will have an important role to play in the future of Tehran’s political and diplomatic relations with other countries due to the cruel sanctions imposed against Iran.

Border provinces of Iran have a vital role to this end, he said, adding that East Azarbaijan is of great importance as the province enjoys the appropriate commercial, economic and industrial infrastructures.

the development of cultural, academic, and scientific relations as other priorities of Iran’s diplomacy with Azerbaijan, noting that the exchange of students and holding joint conferences can be effective in the expansion of bilateral relations.

In this meeting, the two sides reviewed the status of economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.

They paid attention to the existence of areas and infrastructure needed to further expansion of ties and focused on issues of cooperation between countries’ fields of interest, including in the automotive industry, Halal products industry, tourism, preferential trade agreement, and etc.

The Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister described his visit to Iran in the current context as a sign of the importance of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Malaysia’s foreign affairs

Emphasizing the interest of Malaysian companies to invest in Iran, he said: “I hope that with mutual cooperation, the relations between the two countries will be further strengthened and the effects of Coronavirus in economic and trade relations will be managed.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A third round of discussions on signing a preferential trade agreement (PTA) between Iran and Malaysia have shown a progress on Wednesday during a meeting held via a video conference call, said a senior official from Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization.

Anvar Kamrani said the two sides had discussed a main draft of the potential trade deal as well as issues related to the list of goods that would be subject to lower tariffs, Press TV wrote.

“It was agreed in this meeting that the lists proposed by the two sides be prepared based on national tariffs of the two countries and exchanged until October 13,” said Kamrani.

He added the trade deal could begin to be implemented once Iran and Malaysia agree on the preferential trade tariffs and the final list of the goods.

Iran has opted for an East-leaning trade policy in recent years as the country has faced growing economic pressure from Western countries.

That comes as unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States have caused a boom in Iran’s trade with countries in the region as well as those in Asia and South East Asia.

Iran signed an agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union last November to allow trade on lower tariffs. The deal has enabled Iran to significantly increase the value and volume of goods exported to countries like Russia.

Talks have been underway between Iran and countries like India and Pakistan for a PTA while search is going on for other avenues to ease Iran’s access to major markets around the world.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – International Law and United Nations Charter is violated by American sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad told a conference in Qatar on Saturday.

”Malaysia does not support the reimposition of the unilateral sanctions by the US against Iran,” he told the Doha Forum, also attended by Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Reuters reported.

Malaysia and other countries have lost ”a big market” because of the sanctions on Iran, he said.

”United Nations Charter and international law are violated by such sanctions; sanctions can only be applied by the United Nations in accordance with the charter,” he added.

Back in October, Mahathir said Malaysia was being forced to “make it difficult” for Iranians to live normal lives in the country.

“Our ties are very good with Tehran, but we face some very strong pressures from certain quarters, which you may guess,” he said, without naming where the pressure was coming from.

Banks in Malaysia closed accounts of Iranian individuals and companies, because of US sanctions.

“We are forced to do this because if we don’t, they will close our banks abroad. It’s a kind of bullying by very powerful people.”

The US imposed sanctions over Iran’s nuclear program late last year, but Malaysia has maintained good diplomatic ties with Iran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad says US sanctions imposed on Iran violate the United Nations Charter and international law and resulted in losing one Malaysia big market in the region.

Malaysia has lost a big market as a result of the bans on the Islamic Republic, Mahathir added in his remarks at the Doha Forum in Qatar on Saturday.

”Malaysia does not support the re-imposition of the unilateral sanctions by the US against Iran,” he noted. ”Such sanctions clearly violate the United Nations Charter and international law; sanctions can only be applied by the United Nations in accordance with the charter.”

The event, whose main theme is “The Role of Development in Achieving National Security,” focuses on a range of issues, including the displacement of Muslims worldwide, food security, national/cultural identity, and Islamophobia, technology, trade, internet governance, and security.

At the forum, Mahathir invited Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to attend Kuala Lumpur Summit which is set to take place from Dec.19 to Dec. 21.

Malaysia has maintained good diplomatic relations with Iran despite sanctions Washington imposed against Tehran.

The US under President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear deal in May 2018 in defiance of global objections and unleashed a “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran, under which it has imposed the “toughest ever” sanctions targeting the Iranian economy in order to force Tehran into submitting to its excessive demands.

On Wednesday, the Trump administration announced that it was targeting Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) or E-Sail, and the country’s major airline, Mahan Air.

The US Treasury Department stressed that Washington’s newly announced sanctions targeting Iran’s air and maritime transport industries will lead to the restriction of trade related to humanitarian goods.

The announcement came despite Washington’s earlier claims that its sanctions did not affect Iran’s access to humanitarian goods.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani plans to tour visit Malaysia and Japan in December, his chief of staff announced.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Mahmoud Vaezi said Rouhani is scheduled to visit Malaysia and Japan later this month.

The presidential visit to Kuala Lumpur will be made at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Bin Mohamad, he added.

Vaezi also noted that Rouhani has decided to pay a visit to Japan at the invitation of Japanese leader Shinzo Abe after the trip to Malaysia.

The Iranian president and the Malaysian premier held a meeting on the sidelines of the 18th Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Baku in October.

In that meeting, Rouhani called for “new mechanisms for the development of mutual cooperation” with Malaysia.

Abe visited Tehran in June to become the first Japanese leader to travel to Iran in more than 4 decades.

The Japanese prime minister met with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and the Iranian president.

Earlier, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced the country’s willingness to promote bilateral relations with Malaysia and said closer economic cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the Southeast Asian country would be in favor of both nations.
