Iran Exports Advanced Gas Turbine to Russia Amid Sanctions

TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking at the National Event for Exporters of Technical and Engineering Services, Goods, and Knowledge-Based Products in the Water and Power Industry, Minister Abbas Aliabadi said: “For the first time, we managed to export an advanced Iranian-made gas turbine to Russia. This achievement was realized despite unjust sanctions against our country.”

Aliabadi also revealed that Iran has exported generators and other electrical equipment to Russia and has recently succeeded in repairing aircraft engines. He stressed that exports are most valuable when they are knowledge-based and create added value, rather than relying on raw materials and unprocessed commodities.

Highlighting Iran’s track record abroad, he noted that Iranian specialists have built and repaired power plants in Syria and Iraq, underscoring the capability of the nation’s power industry in international markets. The minister emphasized that true success in exports requires collaboration across the entire value chain, including financing. He pointed out that Iran’s electricity sector has even managed to finance certain international projects.

Aliabadi called for stronger cooperation among Iranian companies to gain a more powerful foothold in global markets. “Exports today are not just an option but a national strategy,” he said, adding that the Ministry of Energy is committed to facilitating exports of engineering services and power and water industry goods.

He urged Iranian firms to deliver landmark projects worthy of the nation’s reputation, insisting that the sector has achieved a level of quality that enables competition with leading global companies. However, he also acknowledged challenges, citing a recent case where an international project was awarded to another country due to political interference, despite Iran offering better quality and lower prices. “Iran Exports”

While recognizing that sanctions are harmful, the minister argued that they can also be turned into opportunities. “There are thousands of opportunities within sanctions that we must identify and seize,” he said. He further encouraged the use of international finance mechanisms to support Iranian exporters, stressing the need for smart policymaking and streamlined export regulations.

Aliabadi concluded by noting that the world is nearing the end of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and moving toward the Fifth, urging Iranian companies not to remain stuck in the past but to move forward with intelligence and foresight.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Secretary General of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce Jahanbakhsh Sanjabi says Iran’s exports to Iraq in the first five months of the current Iranian year have declined and reports on the rise of exports are questionable.

Speaking to ILNA, Mr. Sanjabi said that unfortunately Iranian goods after removal of the subsidized dollar rate of 4200 tomans saw rise in prices above the international prices and the first reaction of purchasers after the delivery was to resist and refrain to buy.

He confirmed the reports on decline in Iran’s exports to Iraq in the first five months of the current year and said that the assumption of rise in trade volume with Iraq in first five months is not true and one should look at it with doubt.

He reiterated that the rise in the foreign trade volume is just because of rise in prices, adding that Iran has exported some 44.1m tons of goods that earned the country some $20.9b while Iran’s exports were 45.6m tons in the same period last year and figures show that Iran’s exports have declined over 1.6m tons in terms of weight.

Sanjabi reiterated that the country exported some $17.2b in five months and the figure shows that although there has been 21% growth in the exports of goods in terms of value, the exports have declined 3.5% in terms of weight and this difference is because of the rise in the global rise in prices.

He noted that Iraq is considered as Iran’s second trade partner that 31.38m tons out of 44.1m tons of Iran exports belong to Iraq, adding that China, Iraq, the UAE, Turkey and India are Iran’s top five trade partners, respectively. He added that it means Iraq accounts for 19.64% of Iran’s total exports in terms of weight and 14.15% in terms of value.

He said that last year in the mentioned period, exports to Iraq accounted for 26.61% of Iran’s total exports in terms of weight and 18.67% in terms of value and therefore exports to Iraq have declined both in terms of weight and value.

Sanjabi reiterated that comparing the statistics regarding exports to Iraq in recent two years shows that Iran has exported 8.665m tons of goods to Iraq while the figure was 12.152m tons in the same period last year. He said that the value of exported goods to Iraq in the first five months of last year $3.22b while this figure has been $2.961b this year which bespeaks of 8% decline in terms of value and 28% in weight.

He noted all working hard to increase exports at least to last year’s level and even more than it.

He reiterated that if inflation continues rising in Turkey in the second half of the year, Iran can restore its market in Iraq which has been lost due to elimination of 4200-toman dollar rate in Iran.

He admitted elimination of preferential forex rate in Iran caused Iran’s goods to lose Iraq market especially in the diary and noodle sectors.

Meanwhile Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for the Economic Diplomacy Affairs on Sunday considered country’s trade with Iraq ‘very important’ and put Iran’s exports value to neighboring Iraq at about $14 billion.

Speaking in a session of Iran’s Foreign Economic Relations Coordination Headquarters with a focus on the latest measures taken for organizing the Exclusive Exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Turkmenistan capital of Ashgabat and reviewing the latest situation of economic relations with Iraq, Mehdi Safari the Deputy Foreign Minister for the Economic Diplomacy termed organizing this exhibition and active participation of the private sector and commercial envoy of the country in this fair ‘very important’.

He went on to say that active participation of Iran’s private sector will spur export and boost trade balance to Turkmenistan as well.

Preliminary agreements have been reached with Turkmen side regarding the export of technical and engineering services to this country, Safari added.

Considering the trade between Iran and Iraq, the Deputy Foreign Minister termed Iran’s trade with Iraq as ‘very significant’ and put the total exports value of the country to this country at about $14 billion

He then pointed to the shared border crossings with Iraq and put the volume of Iran’s exports to Iraq at about $14 billion.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Chairman of the Iran-Armenia Joint Chamber of Commerce Hervik Yarjanian says Iran’s exports to Armenia have been over $200b in the first seven months of the current year which shows 60% growth comparing to the same period last year.

Speaking to ILNA and touching upon the launch of the joint industrial park between Iran and Armenia, Yarjanian said that Armenian sides with cooperation with the industrial parks of Iran are to create an industrial pardis (industrial park) which will be on a 50-hectar area and it is considered a joint investment and this pardis will be allocate for the industrial and medium industries.

He added that the project has been endorsed by the Armenian government and it is facing its legal process, adding that this pardis is in the framework of a deal which has been signed between the Armenian economic minister and head of Iran Small Industries and Industrial Parks Organization during the joint economic commission of the two states.

He then pointed to the trade volume of the two states and said currently Armenia is the 15th export destination of Iran and Iran’s exports to this country in the first seven months of the current year has been over $200m which shows 60% growth year-on-year, reiterating that cement tomato paste, fruits, pipe and profile, urea, tile, ceramic and bitumen have been the major exported items to Armenia in this period.

He noted by the way Iran’s imports from Armenia have been around $15m in the same period which shows 50% growth.

Asked about Iran’s exports of vehicles to Armenia, he said Iran currently has no car export to Armenia, adding that of course an Armenian company had talks to buy some 100 Nisan pickups but due to the sudden rise in the prices, it was almost halted because the price of the Chinese like are by far much cheaper than Iran’s.

Reacting to employment of Iranian shepherds in Armenia, he said so far he cannot confirm it because there is no valid information or detail on it, adding that Iranian companies are active in export of technical and engineering services to Armenia and some groups from Iran travel to Armenia because it is a very specialized matter.

Yarjanian added that the market of warm meat is very attractive one in the world and Armenia has good areas for breeding ship and livestock but it is strange that Armenia has published advertisement to hire Iranian shepherds and maybe the advertisement has come by the Iranian companies which have invested in Armenia and they prefer to hire Iranian forces.

He then added that the transit of goods between the two states is done easily and there is no problem but the Armenian roads due to recent incidents needed some repairs which have been done and the transit is underway.

He noted that Armenia is preparing a replacement for the current road which will be launched with a budget over one billion dollars which will launch the south-north corridor to reduce the time of transit from 8 to four hours.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The director-general of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO)’s Office of Arabian and African Countries says Iran’s exports to Lebanon have increased by 266 percent, admitting that the U.S. sanctions on banking activities have restricted Iran’s trade with Lebanon.

In an interview with ILNA, Farzad Piltan said since Iran and Lebanon have earlier announced their readiness for reducing trade tariffs, the talks on signing preferential trade agreement have begun and both countries have reached agreements and the primary list has faced some changes. He noted that Iran is trying to resume talks to finalize this issue.

On the condition of the trade between Iran and Lebanon, Piltan said that Lebanon is an important country in the Middle East and among Arab states whose population is around 6.5m. He added that 50 percent of Lebanese are Muslim and 40 percent Christians and the remaining are from other religions. He added that the country has good trade relation with the world, and Beirut and Tripoli ports are of the active ports of the region as services account for 83 percent of Lebanon’s GDP.

Piltan went on to say that the per capita of the Lebanese is $19,500 which is considered a good amount and in fact the country is considered among the growing countries in terms of welfare which shows good purchasing power of consumers in the market, and admitted that the statistics belong to the era before recent crisis in this country.

He stipulated that Lebanon’s agro products like grape, potato, tomato, vegetables, olive and tobacco are of the products which can meet Iran’s demands. He then pointed to some industrial products of Lebanon and said the country in major sectors needs imports and this is a good opportunity for Iran to boost its exports. He reiterated that service sector accounts for major part of Lebanon’s GDP which includes banking services, tourism, hoteliering, restaurateuring, IT, start-ups, commercial and insurance.

Piltan went on to say that major exports of Lebanon are gold, gems, scraps of iron, copper and steel, dried fruits, zinc and tobacco and the country’s major imports are fuel, oil products, medicines, plane, corn and livestock.

He noted that China accounted for 10 percent of exports to Lebanon in 2020 and Turkey, Germany, Greece and the U.S. trailed China. Switzerland was the major importer of Lebanese products by 41.5 percent in 2020 while Saudi Arabia, the U.S, Egypt and Greece trailed Switzerland.

On the trade volume between Iran and Lebanon, he said Iran’s trade with Lebanon in the first five months of the current year was around $20m which mainly includes Iran’s exports which stood at $12.7m. He added that the figure shows 226 percent growth in terms of value and 677 percent in weight comparing to the same period last year.

Pilatan went on to say that fortunately good infrastructures have been prepared for trade between Iran and Lebanon and in case condition is provided, the trade between the two states would surpass the level of the trade of the two states in the past.

He also pointed to the problems ahead of bilateral trade and said the sanctions on the banking sector has affected banking transactions between Iranian and Lebanese banks and it has deprived economic activities of both countries from getting deserved banking services.

He then referred to the problems in transportation and shipping the goods between the two states which prolong the time of trade and increases the cost of trade. Piltan reiterated that recent political and economic developments in Lebanon have also worsened the condition for trade.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) says China is the most important destination for Iran’s exports, adding that the transit of goods from Iran’s land borders has grown by 95 percent.

Mehdi Mirashrafi said that Iran’s foreign trade in the first four months of the current year has improved and the statistics show growth both in imports and exports.

He said in the first four months, some 50.8m tons of goods worth $29b have been traded between Iran and other countries which show 21 percent growth in weight and 47 percent in value.

He added that the share of non-oil goods exports from Iran’s foreign trade is 38.3m tons worth of $14.3b which signals 27 percent growth in weight and 65 percent in value comparing to the same period last year.

Mirashrafi noted that China ranks first in Iran’s export destinations as Iran’s exports to this country in the first four months were around 10m tons worth of $4.3b while Iraq, the UAE, Turkey and Afghanistan have trailed China as the next major destinations for Iran’s exports.

Iran’s top five non-oil export destinations during this period were China with over $3 billion worth of exports, Iraq with $2.406 billion, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with over $1.554 billion, and Afghanistan with $871 million as well as Turkey with $513 million, so the country’s top five export destinations remained the same in comparison to previous months, according to IRICA.

He also said that Iran’s imports in the same period were 12.5m tons worth of $14.5b which shows 5 percent growth in terms of weight and 32 percent in terms of value.

He went on to say that the UAE has been the major exporter to Iran in the same period as the country has exported 4m tons of goods worth of $4.7b and China has trailed the UAE with exporting one million tons of goods worth $3.1m.

According to Mirashrafi, the significant increase in the value of trade indicates that the negative impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on Iran’s foreign trade has alleviated.

“The impact of the pandemic on Iran’s trade has decreased from 54 percent in late March to 27 percent in August,” he said.

He also said that the transit of goods from Iran’s land borders has improved in the same period as some 3.753m tons of goods have been transited from the country’s land borders which shows 95 percent growth comparing to the same period last year.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A businessman says some 8% of Iran’s exports to Iraq, estimated at $660 million, is rerouted to Syria.

A significant part of Iran’s exports shipments sent to neighboring Iraq ends up in Syria, says a businessman as he hopes Iran can increase its formal trade ties with Syria now that the Arab country is emerging from almost a decade of terrorism and war.

Keyvan Kashefi, who chairs the Iran-Syria Joint Chamber of Commerce, said on Wednesday that some 8 percent of Iran’s exports to Iraq is rerouted to Syria mostly via the semi-autonomous Iraqi region of Kurdistan.

“People are very active in this case in the Kurdistan territory as they buy goods from Iran and send them to Syria,” said Kashefi.

The businessman estimated that Iran’s indirect exports to Syria over the calendar year to late March had reached $660 million as officially-declared exports from Iran to Iraq stood at $8 billion over the period.

That comes on top of around $120 million in direct Iranian exports to Syria in the year to March. Exports soared to nearly $50 million in the quarter to late June, up 73% against the same period in 2020, according to figures by the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran.

Iranian authorities hope exports to Syria could jump to over $1 billion in 2023 as the two countries plan to ease tariffs and other restrictions on trade.

Iran was a major supplier of goods and services to Syria before the Arab country slid into a massive war led by terrorist groups in March 2011. Government figures show exports from Iran to Syria had topped $500 million in the year before that.

Kashefi said Iran can easily rival China and Turkey in the Syrian import market if the government in Tehran removes bans on exports of certain goods.

He said closure of land routes to Syria through Iraq means that Iranian export shipments should travel 25-30 days through a shipping line between Iran’s Bandar Abbas and Syria’s Latakia to reach customers in the Arab country.
