TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iranian deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, Reza Najafi, gave an address to a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the “Elimination of Unilateral Extraterritorial Coercive Economic Measures as a Means of Political and Economic Compulsion”, held in New York on June 13.

The following is the full text of his statement:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

Mr. President,

I would like to begin by expressing my sincere appreciation to you for organizing this meeting to address unilateral extraterritorial coercive economic measures – or in short, “unilateral sanctions”.

Representing a country that, for well over four decades, has been and continues to be severely affected by unilateral sanctions, I would first, elaborate on their legal aspects, second, provide certain objective examples on their adverse effects, and finally, explain our views on why the international community of States must address them effectively, leading to their elimination.

First, from legal perspective, imposition and application of unilateral sanctions is a gross violation of the Purposes and Principles of the United Nations.

They materially breach the “Purposes of the United Nations”, particularly those set out in paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Charter’s Article 1, namely: “to develop friendly relations among nations”, “to achieve international cooperation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character” and “promoting and encouraging respect for human rights”.

Similarly, introduction and application of unilateral sanctions is a flagrant violation of the “Principles of the United Nations”, particularly those set forth in paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Charter’s Article 2, that are: “sovereign equality” of States, and to “fulfill in good faith the obligations assumed” by Member States under the Charter.

That’s why, according to 1970 Declaration on Principles of International Law Concerning Friendly Relations and Cooperation Among States in Accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, all States shall refrain from using of military, political, economic or any other type of measures to coerce another State in order to obtain from it the subordination of the exercise of its sovereign rights and to secure from it advantages of any kind.

Similarly, imposition of unilateral sanctions contravenes principles and norms of international human rights law.

They violate common Article 1 of the twin covenants on civil and political and economic, social and cultural rights, according to which “in no case may a people be deprived of its own means of subsistence”.

They also materially breach Article 47 of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights as well as Article 25 of International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, according to which nothing therein “shall be interpreted as impairing the inherent right of all peoples to enjoy and utilize fully and freely their natural wealth and resources”.

Unilateral sanctions also contradict “the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health” as set out in Article 12(1) of International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Equally, unilateral sanctions violate the inherent right of every human being to life, as reaffirmed by Article 6(1) of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and “no derogation” therefrom is permitted according to its Article 4(2).

While unilateral sanctions adversely affect and violate many other human rights from right to work, to shelter, to decent environment and to education, I suffice mentioning only the aforesaid examples.

Now, Mr. President, I would like to provide a few objective examples of detrimental effects of unilateral sanctions to illustrate the severity of their negative impacts across various domains including, but not limited to, the right to health, right to development, right to education, right to welfare and, in general, the right to life of targeted nations.

Patients with chronic diseases face severe shortages of life-saving medications due to restrictions on their import as a result of unilateral sanctions. Likewise, sanctions prevent the adequate import of medical equipment and hinder the proper functioning of hospitals and healthcare facilities. These shortages combined result in a significant increase in mortality rates among patients, particularly children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

In this context, I must refer to devastating impact of sanctions on patients suffering from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare and debilitating skin disease. While such patients need specific wound dressings for treatment, unilateral sanctions extremely restrict the import of such dressings. This has not only exacerbated the suffering of the EB patients in my country, but also has resulted in a remarkable increase in mortality rates among EB patients.

As we are approaching the anniversary of Saddam’s 1987 attack on the Iranian city of Sardasht with chemical weapons, I must also refer to the sufferings of victims of chemical weapons as a result of sanctions. Just one example among thousands is the dire need of a 43-year-old Iranian woman for a certain medicine. When she was wounded in Sardasht with chemical agents, she was only seven years old. To breathe normally, she needs a certain medicine that now cannot be imported because all possible ways are blocked by sanctions. Back in 1987, she was the victim of chemical agents provided to Saddam by western States, and now is the victim of sanctions imposed by the same western States. Yet, such States continue to shed crocodile tears for the status of women in my country.

As the Special Rapporteur on Unilateral Coercive Measures has highlighted, sanctions have adverse impacts on persons with disabilities, as well as on those suffering from rare or severe diseases who are in need of sustained medical attention, who are the most vulnerable in the face of these unilateral sanctions. Her report emphasizes that such measures and the absence of adequate and sufficient medical assistance and treatment for persons with disabilities, as well as for patients with severe and rare diseases, resulted in growing mortality rates, reduced life expectancy and deteriorated overall health conditions.

Unilateral sanctions also stifle economic growth, hinder development projects, and deprive individuals of their means of subsistence, perpetuating poverty and inequality. Likewise, they increase mortality rates among vulnerable segments of society, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly, due to lack of access to basic necessities like food, medicine and healthcare.

Mr. President,

Now I would like to turn to this question that why the international community of States must pay serious attention to horrifying trend of introduction and application of unilateral sanctions. This is necessary and urgent, because:

By any measure, unilateral sanctions are inhumane, immoral and unlawful. They are but a brutal collective punishment of targeted nations for their determination to exercise their inherent rights to self-determination recognized in Article 1 of the UN Charter as well as Articles 1 of the twin covenants on civil and political and economic, social and cultural rights;

Human rights are not realized in a vacuum, rather, it can be realized only if the necessary “conditions are created” — as has rightly been stated in the preamble of both covenants on civil and political and economic, social and cultural rights, and such conditions cannot be created — at least satisfactorily — in countries targeted by unilateral sanctions as sanctions inter alia prevent such States from using their resources, disrupt their economic and trade relations, and prevent them from importing their basic needs like food and medicine;

Countries introducing sanctions weaponize food, medicine, medical equipment and alike to further their narrow national policies;

Unilateral sanctions continue to destroy the fabrics of multilateralism– the United Nations at its center; seriously breach the letter and spirit of the United Nations Charter; reject cooperation and foment confrontation; and instead of promoting friendly relations cause hatred and hostility;

All these alarming realities continue to undermine the very essence and spirit of this Organization and its Charter which, first and foremost, are founded on such lofty values of inclusion, cooperation, peaceful co-existence, good-neighborliness, solidarity, freedom and justice;

Unilateral sanctions are nothing but economic war and terrorism; restrict the access of targeted nations to essential goods and services; exacerbate economic hardship and poverty; undermine the well-being of civilians and ordinary people; perpetuate a cycle of poverty, inequality, and human suffering; and the worst is that target the most vulnerable segments of targeted societies the most;

We must not allow this dangerous trend of unilateralism to undermine the rule of law, multilateralism and our collective endeavor to promote peace, prosperity, solidarity and friendship among nations. This is what we owe to present and upcoming generations of our societies; and

If unchecked, the western States who continue to race to the bottom on imposing more brutal sanctions on more nations, will ultimately evolve unilateral sanctions to actual economic blockade against targeted States — the living example of which is the 17-year-old unlawful and inhumane blockade on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli regime, where Israel now is weaponizing food, water, medicine and other life-saving aid needed by civilian populations and uses starvation as a method of war.

I must stress that despite the claims of western States, there are no so-called “humanitarian exemptions” for sanctions. Such a fake and hypocritical term is coined by the U.S. and other western States merely to purportedly hide the inhumane nature of their sanctions. These terms are but sheer lies and deceptions.

In conclusion, Mr. president, I must stress that the international community of States must condemn and reject unilateral economic coercive measures. This is needed in support of promoting fundamental and inherent rights and the well-being of our nations, the rule of law, inclusion, and true multilateralism. This indeed is a collective responsibility and my delegation is prepared to actively contribute to fulfillment of this responsibility.

I thank you, Mr. president.

Kanaani stressed the report released by the so-called international fact-finding committee repeats groundless allegations rooted in inaccurate and biased information, and therefore, lacks legal credibility and is fundamentally rejected.

“The so-called fact-finding committee, was established with a farcical show of human rights by some Western countries, especially Germany, and with the money donated by them, in November 2022, and after a scheme to destabilize the situation inside Iran failed.”

“The committee has not only not found any facts by releasing a report containing an organized collection of distorted realities and lies, but also distorted realities in a targeted manner,” he added.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran regards the report, which has been drawn up through the machinations of the Zionist regime, the United States and certain Western countries, as a clear example of abusing lofty human rights concepts and values in order to advance short-sighted political objectives, and dismisses it as lacking in any legal value and effect,” the spokesman continued.

“By presenting its recent report, the so-called international fact-finding committee has shown that it acts upon the agenda of the German, British, American and Zionist masterminds of the report and is in their pay and has compromised the United Nations’ human rights mechanism for the wicked and illegal objectives of the above-said regimes.”

Kaanani explained that the countries behind the establishment of the so-called fact-finding committee are “furious” with the security and stability in Iran as well as with “the failure of their involvement in the riots back in 2022” and they are seeking to take revenge on the Iranian nation by publishing this report.

“We recommend these countries deal with cases of rights violations in their own countries rather than making unwarranted interference in Iran,” he said.

“If they have a modicum of honesty and compassion with regards to human rights and women’s rights, they should have paid attention to the killing of more than 30,000 Palestinian citizens – over 70% of whom are women and children – over the past 5 months and stopped genocide and crimes against humanity in Gaza,” the spokesman noted.

He stressed that whatever has been presented over the almost past two years in verbal and written reports by the so-called fact-finding committee to the Human Rights Council has been unilateral finger-pointing by those behind the establishment of this committee against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“The countries which themselves have violated the rights of other nations and are accomplices in all crimes committed by the Zionist regime, namely the massacre of civilians, especially women and children, cannot claim to be advocating or judging the situation of human rights in a given country; rather, they should be accountable for their crimes with regards to blatant violation of human rights,” Kanaani added.

“It goes without saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran has committed itself to making every effort for the ever-increasing development and progress of its women and girls, and future of Islamic Iran will be built by women and girls who are a source of pride and honor for the country, and all along this path, they will vigilantly foil interventionist plots.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Western countries for centuries have claimed they have been defenders of the human rights and human values but they have actually been the violators of the human rights when it comes to what is happening in their own lands.

The West especially its leading countries like the U.S., UK and France have been major violators of the human rights in recent decades and unfortunately other Western counties have copied their lords and have gone the same path that the big Western countries have gone.

Unfortunately the West has a double standard view regarding the human rights issue and it is an ardent defender of human rights issue when it comes to other countries but it ignores what is going in their own countries.

We have not yet forgotten the reaction of Western countries regarding to the riots in countries like Iran, Venezuela and some other independent countries and at the same time they acted indifferently to what has happened in Israel and France that protesters have been confronted with force.

On Saturday Iran’s vice-president of the judiciary for international affairs criticized international mechanisms for failing to take a position regarding the deteriorating human rights situation in Western countries, saying international rights bodies are duty-bound to support and promote the key issue across the world.

In a Saturday letter to Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Kazem Gharibabadi said the world suffers from fundamental challenges and dilemmas regarding human rights which are mainly caused by those countries that “claim to be defending human rights and see themselves in the position of making demands from others and being immune from any criticism and responsibility.”

“The responsibility of the international human rights mechanisms in such conditions is fundamental to support and promote human rights, which must be fulfilled by respecting independence, impartiality, professionalism, and non-selectivity,” said Gharibabadi, who also served as the Secretary General of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights.

He warned of adopting “politically-motivated and selective” approaches that does a great disservice and is detrimental to human rights, and erodes public trust in human rights mechanisms.

He drew the commissioner’s attention to situations in several countries, including France, Britain and Germany, over the last six months regarding the “right to freedom of assembly and of association.”

Pointing to massive public demonstrations in France in protest against the government’s policies, the Iranian rights official said, “Instead of listening to the protesters’ demands and trying to improve the situation, the French government resorts to large-scale violence to deal with the gatherings.”

Gharibabadi censured the French government for using anti-riot equipment, assaulting people, and arresting thousands of protesters as only part of the countermeasures.

Referring to Britain’s introduction of amendments to the Public Order Bill to increase police powers to deal with protesters at rallies, he said the “repression bill” leads to a “significant and unprecedented increase in the powers of the police force to impose undue restrictions on peaceful protests and … it criminalizes assemblies under the pretext of deprivation of public comfort and provides a sentence of up to 10 years of imprisonment.”

Gharibabdi pointed to a sit-in protest in Germany. He said over 3,000 German police and security forces arrested hundreds of political opponents under the pretext of plotting to stage a coup d’état.

“In yet another move, the German government seeks to pass a law that will expel its opponents from all government jobs under the pretext of extremism.” The top Iranian rights official said most European countries have been the scene of peaceful protests over the past months which were “suppressed and dispersed with the most severe attacks by law enforcement forces.”

Referring to the recent riots in Iran, Gharibabadi said,” Egged on by incitement and backing of particular states, media outlets and terrorist groups, the recent gatherings in the Islamic Republic of Iran deviated from their peaceful nature and morphed into riots, causing violations of the fundamental rights of citizens.”

The Iranian vice-president also slammed the West and the United States for pursuing a politically-motivated approach and exploiting the Human Rights Council by establishing a so-called mechanism to investigate the riots in the country.

“The same countries that consider themselves supporters of the rioters in Iran are – both in law and in practice – committing the most heinous crimes to systematically violate the right to peaceful assembly.”

These were just few examples for what is going in the Western countries and one can see that human rights issue has turned into a game to be played by the West when Western states need it to use as a tool to exercise pressure on the independent countries.

Many international bodies have been formed to defend human rights in the world but they remain silent and passive when violation of human rights happen in the Western countries and they are just active against those countries which do not bow to the pressure of the West.

If the international bodies continue the current trend of response to the human rights violation, they will turn into a useless body and human rights will lose its meaning and importance. So the international human rights body are better to take fair and equal action regarding human rights violation if they really are defenders of it because as long as these bodies remain indifferent, human rights violation will continue in the West and only other countries will be the target of these bodies.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Vice-President of the Judiciary for International Affairs and the Secretary General of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights Kazem Gharibabadi has criticized international mechanisms for not taking a position regarding the deterioration of human rights situations in Western countries.

In a letter to “Volker Türk”, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Gharibabadi noted, “The world suffers from fundamental challenges and dilemmas regarding human rights, mainly caused by the actions of countries that claim to be defending human rights and see themselves in the position of making demands from others and being immune from any criticism and responsibility. The responsibility of the international human rights mechanisms in such conditions is fundamental to support and promote human rights, which must be fulfilled by respecting independence, impartiality, professionalism, and non-selectivity. Adopting politically-motivated and selective approaches does a great disservice and is detrimental to human rights, and erodes public trust in human rights mechanisms.”

He draws Commissioner’s attention to “some situations over the last six months in several countries regarding the right to freedom of assembly and of association”, noting, “France regularly witnesses massive public demonstrations in protest against the government’s policies. In some cases, up to two million people participated in the protests. Instead of listening to the protesters’ demands and trying to improve the situation, the French government resorts to large-scale violence to deal with the gatherings. Using anti-riot equipment, assaulting people, and arresting thousands of protesters are only part of the countermeasures adopted by the French government.”

“Having banned environmental rallies since 2019, Britain has introduced amendments to the Public Order Bill to increase police powers to deal with protesters at rallies. Referred to as the ‘repression bill’, the Public Order Bill, on the one hand, causes a significant and unprecedented increase in the powers of the police force to impose undue restrictions on peaceful protests; and on the other, it criminalizes assemblies under the pretext of deprivation of public comfort and provides a sentence of up to 10 years of imprisonment. This should also be noted that most recently, aroused by the systematic Islamophobia and anti-Islamism in the UK, a British racist set fire to a Muslim while leaving a mosque in Birmingham,” he added.

Gharibabdi also noted, “Following a sit-in protest in Germany, the German Minister of the Interior took to Twitter and said, ‘Blocking escape routes puts lives at risk. We saw that in a terrible way in Berlin. The police have my full support for a crackdown.” On the other hand, over 3,000 German police and security forces arrested hundreds of political opponents under the pretext of plotting to stage a coup d’état. Arresting these people – who only sought to bring changes in the German political system gun-free and without closing the street and killing the police – on suspicion of subversion and restricting any support for them on social networks is considered suppression of freedom of expression and opinion. In yet another move, the German government seeks to pass a law that will expel its opponents from all government jobs under the pretext of extremism.'”

Referring to the recent riots in Iran, the Secretary General of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights added, “Egged on by incitement and backing of particular States, media outlets and terrorist groups, the recent gatherings in the Islamic Republic of Iran deviated from their peaceful nature and morphed into riots, causing violations of the fundamental rights of citizens, including but not limited to the right to personal liberty and security, the right to freedom of movement as well as the right to health and safety. On the contrary, the Islamic Republic of Iran took a responsible policy, and established an investigative committee to launch inquiries into the possible physical and financial damages and the violations of the rights of all parties. Nevertheless, in a politically-motivated move, the West and the United States exploited the Human Rights Council and held a special session to establish a so-called mechanism to investigate the recent riots in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Your Excellency also issued several one-sided letters and statements in this short period of time, and the spokesperson of your office also adopted several positions.”

“This is despite the fact that most European countries have been the scene of protests over the past months. Albeit demonstrations and protests in European countries were utterly peaceful, they were suppressed and dispersed with the most severe attacks by law enforcement forces. The same countries that consider themselves supporters of the rioters in Iran are – both in law and in practice – committing the most heinous crimes to systematically violate the right to peaceful assembly,” the official said.

“I would like an answer to the following question: Why didn’t the High Commissioner and his Office take a position regarding the deteriorating human rights situations in the aforementioned countries?! The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is expected to perform its duties in a professional and non-selective manner. Public opinion is still awaiting an appropriate reaction,” Gharibabadi concluded.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the Western states’ crimes in the past and in the contemporary era, saying the US and the European countries are in no position to comment on the human rights issue.

Ayatollah Khamenei made the comment in a meeting with a group of Iranian poets and Persian literature academics in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Leader described the pharmaceutical sanctions and the prevention of delivery of vaccines under various pretexts as other examples of the West’s attacks against Iran.

“If they could do something to deprive Islamic Iran and its people of food, they would not hesitate to do so,” he added.

Ayatollah Khamenei considered the media onslaught as another part of the diverse attack of ill-wishers against Iran, outlining the fact that they use thousands of forms of media to promote lies, rumors and unconventionalities.

“The enemy’s goal from this attack is to deprive intellectual and educational strengths and to weaken the spirit of independence, national perseverance, Islamic unity and practice,” the Leader argued.

He regarded the weakening of faith and religiosity of women as another one of the targets aimed against Iran and pointed out the effective role that women played in the victory of the Islamic Revolution and the stages after it.

“Westerners have no pity for Iranian women nor do they have any respect for their rights. Rather, they have a grudge against Iranian women and falsely present themselves as supporters of freedom and women’s rights,” the Leader said.

“The West isn’t worthy of being the ones to talk about human rights at all. They are the enemies of humankind!” Ayatollah Khamenei underlined.

“We saw their human rights in Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), when they burned people alive or sunk them in water and drowned them before everyone’s eyes. We saw (their human rights) in their support of the MEK terrorists and in their support of Saddam Hussein and their crimes against Gaza and the Palestinians,” he underscored.

He argued that the West’s support for the assassination and killing of religious youth in the streets of Tehran is another example of the falsity of their claim of supporting human rights.

“Our most virtuous youths, such as Arman Aliverdi and Ruhollah Ajamian were killed by torture and via Western media incitement and training,” he added.

The Leader emphasized the need to recognize the enemy as well as their goals, strategies and targets.

“Understanding the dimensions of the enemy’s soft war is a requirement for everyone, but it is most essential for those who are active in the cultural and artistic fields so that they can prevent themselves from getting influenced by it, and to make others aware of the enemy’s onslaught,” he stated.

During the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his satisfaction with the expansion of poetry in Iran, labeling it as an influential, lasting medium. Referring to the universality and irreplaceable importance of poetry in different periods throughout the history of the Islamic world, the Leader stated, “One of the distinguished features of Persian poetry is the production of epistemic and spiritual capital, which is crystallized in the peaks of Persian poetry and the wise and enlightening poems of prominent poets such as Ferdowsi, Nizami, Rumi, Saadi and Hafez.”

Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out that the capital and essence of Persian poetry has always been preserved even in the most difficult conditions of Iran’s history, such as during the period where the country was invaded by the Mongols.

“Of course, today’s Mongols, that is, the West, have different appearances and forms of the onslaught. In addition to the dark history of their crimes during the colonial period, they have also been invasive during our era, by equipping rabid dogs like Saddam with all kinds of weapons, especially chemical weapons, to attack Iran, or by means of sanctions after that,” the Leader said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –The Western countries for centuries have claimed they support human rights and humanity in the world but it seems this claim is not true because the West comes to defend humanity and human rights issue whenever it likes or thinks it is necessary otherwise it gives a damn for such issues especially in Muslim states.

In recent days many high-ranking Western officials have attended at the Munich Security Conference to tackle many issues for the sake of peace and security in the world but they have ignored humanity by focusing more on Ukraine and the Islamic Republic of Iran rather than on the quake in Turkey and Syria which has been one of the most deadliest quakes in the history that its death toll has been so far over 45,000 people and it is expected the toll surpasses 50,000 at least.

Western leaders have pledged unwavering support for Ukraine “as long as necessary” as Russia’s military campaign against the former Soviet state is approaching its first anniversary with no end in sight.

Speaking at the 59th Munich Security Conference (MSC) on Saturday, Western leaders vowed to remain steadfast in their support for Kiev amid worries about “a prolonged conflict.”

In their speeches, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that the West would not lose its patience, even as debate intensifies about the war effort’s scale, its cost, and the economic damage it has inflicted around the world.

“It is not really a very good idea” to “discuss the question of when, in which month, the war will end,” Scholz said.

“The really important decision that we should all take together is saying that we are willing to do it as long as necessary and that we will do our best,” he added.

Macron also stated that the West is “ready for a prolonged conflict,” stressing that there could be no talks until the Kremlin had been pushed back from Ukraine.

“Now the question is how to resist? How to help the Ukrainians to make on the ground something which will force Russia to come back to the table on the conditions of Ukraine,” he said.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak urged world leaders to double down on military support for Ukraine while stressing the importance of bolstering the country’s “long-term security”.

He further called for a new security framework that would protect non-NATO countries such as Ukraine against any future offensives.

He also noted that winning in Ukraine would represent a triumph over wider global threats, adding that he wants “a victory over the very idea of war”.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sunak pointed to the potential supply of fighter jets to Ukraine, saying there are “complications” with providing certain types of aircraft.

However, he said, the UK is training Ukrainian fighters to use the jets at a NATO standard, adding that London would “happily support other countries” if they had the capacity to provide jets immediately.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris also reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to Kiev during her speech, saying the US is proud to be Ukraine’s partner in “this noble pursuit.”

Harris acknowledged that Ukrainians will “continue to be tried and tested”, though she was confident they will “rise to the task”.

In spite of the Russian government’s repetitive warnings against fanning the flames of war in Ukraine, Harris said “If Putin thinks he can wait us out, he is badly mistaken, “adding that “time is not on his side.”

One can see all of those leaders have concentrated their attention on Ukraine and blaming Russia but they have not given a damn to what has happened in Turkey and Syria. It seems humanity is like a ball for playing and the Western states play with it whenever they like and for them criticizing Russia and Iran is currently more important than any issue in the world while innocent people in Turkey and Syria need global help and attention.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is the only country which has reiterated it will continue helping Turkey and Syria as the country has sent several aid packages to Turkey and Syria. Muslim states should take this point into consideration that the Western states should not been expected to help Turkey and Syria because they are Muslim states and this is something that the West is sensitive on it as we know Syria is under heavy sanctions imposed by the West.

As the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday reiterated, Muslims should rush to help Syria and Turkey to alleviate the pain of the quake as Tehran has shown its commitment in the past and in recent days that it will support Muslim states in the hard times and it is time for all Muslim states to help Syria and Turkey as their brotherly countries.

The West is also better to forget the issue of humanity and continue the game of Ukraine and blaming Iran for baseless accusations and people in the world do not trust the West and its support of humanity issues because they see the double standard approach of the West practically in dealing with quake in Syria and Turkey or other issues like the crimes of Israel. The West does everything to save Ukraine by any kind of financial help but it spares any decision to financially support for Syria and Turkey or at least for easing sanctions against Syria to let Muslim countries help this country.

So Muslim nations are recommended to show the West real commitment to humanity by helping Turkey and Syria to overcome the devastating disaster which claimed lives of tens of thousands.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Former Iranian judicial officer Hamid Nouri, 61, who has been unlawfully jailed in Sweden, has criticized a new trial that has been initiated against him, asserting that he would not participate in the “unfair” process as long as his issues are unresolved.

A fresh set of trial hearings for Nouri, who was detained upon his arrival at Stockholm Airport three years ago, started on Wednesday in a Swedish court.

Authorities in Sweden claimed that he had participated in the execution and torture of Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) members in 1988.

Such spurious claims have been vigorously denied by Nouri.

The Swedish court system framed his case based on allegations made by the terrorist MKO organization, which claimed that Nouri was a prison guard for the MKO operatives in the jail.

Nouri declared at the outset of the fresh trial session that “I believe this tribunal is unjust, and I will not join the court as long as my concerns are not allayed.”

The court had switched off Nouri’s microphone, but he still spoke loudly, stating, “I do not have access to an ophthalmologist; consequently, I am unable to read the materials in my case.”

He went on to underscore, “I have spent the last three years and two months in solitary confinement. Although the judge has ruled that my limitations are no longer in effect, my contacts are still banned.”

Nouri was given a life sentence by a Swedish court last year. He has frequently complained about being abused and tortured in custody.

Nouri was given no assistance, not even a translator, to learn the details of the judgment before the Swedish court sentenced him to life in jail.

Not legally permitted to defend himself

On Sunday, Majid Nouri, Hamid Nouri’s son, spoke about his father’s horrible conditions in jail.

He also said that the judge wrote him in an email a couple of months ago that the restrictions had been lifted.

Unfortunately, prison guards continue to restrict his father in spite of the fact that the judge ordered the lifting of limitations, so he is still being kept in a solitary confinement and cannot have any visit or contact with his family members, the son explained.

Hamid Nouri’s son expressed concern about his father’s health in November 2022, citing three years of abuse and solitary incarceration.

“The process of arresting my father commences with lies. According to Swedish law, a person must enter Sweden of his own volition, but they duped my father into bringing him to Sweden, where he was jailed,” he pointed out.

Hamid Nouri’s son, while pointing to Sweden’s failures in the process of his father’s case, said that the Swedish officials have even changed the internal laws to complicate the case.

Reports say that the Swedish judicial system has not observed the initial human rights standards when it came to the Iranian citizen.

The treatment of the Swedish judicial system is an example of European countries’ claim of support for human rights. This is while that the Nordic states, and Sweden in particular, are claimed to greatly value human rights more than other countries in Western Europe.

Despite such unfair and illegal behavior toward Nouri, European countries have been harshly criticizing Iran for its human rights record. They have been slapping repetitive sanctions on the Islamic Republic under the pretext of human rights violations. Though they are fully aware that the chief victims of their sanctions are ordinary people, they continue to impose new bans on Iran.

The Nouri case is an example that there is a gulf between what the Europeans lecture and what they do in action.

Sweden changes rules to exacerbate the Nouri case

Hossein Jafari, the lawyer representing Hamid Nouri, also underlined that “I tried my best to provide evidence and documentation against the false accusations made against Hamid Nouri.”

According to the lawyer, 8 sessions of the appeals court will be held in public, of which the first two sessions will be for prosecutors to present their statements and evidence.

Jafari also emphasized that the whole process of the court will probably linger until the fall of next year.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Human rights is a very important issue for the nations and for this reason some countries, mostly the Westerners, have tried to turn it into a tool for their sometimes ill intentions, namely, dominance on the nations, and gradually human issue is turning into a laughing stock by the Western states and it becomes meaningless.

In recent years countries which have not bowed down to the arrogant powers have been threatened by the weapon of “human rights” and they have been accused of violating the human rights and countries like the Islamic Republic of Iran have been the major target of the Westerners for violating human rights.

Following any incident or riots or unrests in those countries whicht do not follow the West, they are bombarded with accusations of violating human rights while the Westerners themselves are the main violators of the human rights according to their own media, experts and activists but their governments rudely ignore them and when it comes to independent countries they suddenly wake up and start raising accusations of human rights violation.

For weeks the Western countries led by the U.S. have started the “violation of human rights game” with the Islamic Republic of Iran and have pushed the international bodies to condemn Tehran for violating human rights and they have even shown interventionist policies by approving some resolutions and statements against Tehran while Tehran has tried to stop rioters which is the right of any government in dealing with illegal activities.

On Thursday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman lashed out at Western governments over their instrumental use of human rights against other countries, saying the United States and its allies are “convicted in the court of human conscience” due to their “shameful” record.

Nasser Kanaani made the remark in a string of tweets on Thursday as he attached to his posts a picture of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who murdered African American George Floyd during a violent arrest in May 2020, and the merciless torture of inmates at the infamous US-run Guantanamo prison.

“Those with record of committing crimes against other nations and backing an occupier and terrorist regime, don’t have moral/legal right to comment on human rights in other countries. HR is a sacred value and Iran believes that it’s Islamic, humane, legal and moral imperative to promote it,” said one of the tweets.

“Those HR violators are better to look at their own shameful record and stop political and instrumental use of human rights. U.S. government and many other self-proclaimed advocates of human rights are convicted in the court of human conscience because of their despicable historical conduct,” said another tweet.

Last Thursday, the UN Human Rights Council convened a meeting at the request of Germany and Iceland to discuss alleged human rights violations in Iran during the handling of recent foreign-backed riots in the country.

The body voted to establish an independent international fact-finding mission to investigate the purported abuses.

Foreign-backed riots have hit some Iranian provinces since 22-year-old woman Mahsa Amini died at the hospital on September 16, three days after she collapsed at a police station.

The West’s hostile approach and policy does not want to come an end as it wants to continue this policy as it tries to outs Iran from the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) under pretext of violating women’s rights.

This time it is the gang leader, the U.S., which leads this move as it tries to remove Iran from the 45-member U.N. Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) over the government’s denial of women’s rights and brutal crackdown on protests according to the claim of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris .

Iran is just starting a four-year term on the commission, which meets annually every March and aims to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women.

This claim comes from a country which is itself famous for violating of rights of migrants, black community and women and many women in this country face rights violation and black people are the victim of racist policies of the country but unfortunately the U.S. Administration is indifferent towards them and even claim that the U.S. is cradle of democracy and freedom.

According to the U.S. media, women face many problems in this country and statesmen do not take any serious decision to help them but with even smallest incident occurs in any country which is at odd with the West, suddenly the U.S. and allies cry foul and start “human rights violations game”.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is a very ardent supporter of human rights and women’s rights but there is a difference between women’s rights in Islam and Western culture as Islam pays great value to women’s dignity and does not look at them as a commodity and means of misuse.

So the West is better to stop this accusation game and solve their domestic issues and respect women’s rights in their own countries than meddling in other countries’ domestic laws and affairs, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as it has reiterated before, will remain supporter of women’s rights and human rights but not in the way the West likes because values in Islam and the West are totally different and the Islamic Republic is determined to stick to the Islamic values in all issues.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Sometimes one can get confused and may get crazy when he or she sees something which is denied in the daylight while it is crystal clear and biased.

Last week the UN Secretary General António Guterres released a report on human rights in Iran and he accused Tehran of violating human rights issues in the country while this major international body everyday sees violations of human rights by the West and Israeli regime but gives no heed to them.

Speaking before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Tuesday, UN deputy human rights chief Nada Al-Nashif presented Guterres’ latest report, which strongly criticized Iran over executions in the country and other issues.

“The secretary general is deeply concerned by the increase of executions, including for drug-related offenses,” Al-Nashif said. Guterres also claimed that Iran has used coercive measures against dissidents.

Reacting to this biased report, Iran’s Foreign Minister Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh dismissed as politically motivated a recent report by Guterres on human rights in Iran, saying the Islamic Republic remains committed to promoting human rights, irrespective of the fact that the report was based on false claims made by terrorists.

Khatibzadeh said on Tuesday that Iran has sent its detailed comments and arguments on each and every paragraph of the UN chief’s report to his office but Iran’s response has been regrettably neglected.

The report “is based on false claims and documents based on unreliable sources, and therefore, the main text of the report is mainly based on the contents of the claims and accusations of hostile groups and terrorist cults,” he said.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman explained that the Islamic Republic continues to be fully committed to promoting human rights due to its religious beliefs and legal obligations and is ready to cooperate with UN human rights bodies.

He said the report fails to mention the responsibility of those behind anti-Iran sanctions and refuses to acknowledge the negative and destructive effects of inhumane US sanctions against the country.

Meanwhile in a statement on Tuesday, the Iranian Judiciary’s High Council for Human Rights also criticized the UN chief’s statement, saying it was a “non-reflection of the country’s human rights developments and achievements.”

It said granting the mandate of compiling a country-specific report to the secretary-general on human rights, while there is an international expert mechanism in this regard, is basically “unreasonable and illogical as well as both unnecessary and unprofessional.”

Meanwhile, Khatibzadeh also described a recent UN General Assembly resolution about the situation of human rights in Iran as “politically motivated” and “unfair.”

This is not the first and will not the last time that Iran is accused of violating human rights and each time that nuclear talks or some regional developments are in favor of Tehran, suddenly such a report on human rights violation resurfaces in order to put pressure on Iran for giving concessions or pushing it back from its rightful demands.

In recent days most of the world media have covered the UK government’s decision for deporting asylum-seekers to Rwanda against their wills and people inside and outside the country has protested to this decision but the British government is determined to do it but at the same time the UN and its Human Rights commissioner is watching this horrible violation of human rights without taking any serious action or condemning it.

For years the Zionist regime has been violating the rights of the Palestinians and it still continues this atrocity without getting due reaction and punishment from the UN and even it is getting bolder for more bloodshed due to the full support of the major Western powers.

Several people in Iran have been assassinated by the Zionists or their elements in the country but the UN has avoided condemning officially the Zionists or issuing a statement against this fake regime.

Iranians recommend the UN Chief and this major international body to stop politicizing the issues and taking unfair stands against the country because this double-standard approach to the human rights will lead to the loss of credibility of the UN and emergence of mistrust against this international body.

The problem is that definition of human rights in every country is different and for this reason the West misuse of this and tries to impose its own style definition which is not acceptable for many countries. The UN and the West should not expect Iran to close its eyes over violation of laws by its citizens because everybody should abide by the law and any violation of the law should face punishment and it is natural in all countries. But the problem is that the West and unfortunately the UN sticks to their own laws and they do not give a damn on the domestic laws of other countries which have been approved by parliaments whose representatives have been elected by the public.

The Islamic Revolution of Iran follows the laws of Islam which are not accepted by the West and the UN, and for this reason such biased and West-oriented human rights violation report is released against Tehran.

The UN is recommended to have a fair approach to this important human issue and not to resort to politicizing the issue and to release such anti-Iran reports whenever the country is achieving some success or strengthening its position in the country, mainly, nuclear talks which are in their final stages.

Currently the UN is like a strange world with its strange decisions and approaches and this double-standard approach and world harms the credibility of this body.

Asked by IRNA to comment on Guterres’ report, Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Iran has sent its detailed comments and arguments on each and every paragraph of the UN chief’s report to his office but Iran’s response has been regrettably neglected.

The report “is based on false claims and documents based on unreliable sources, and therefore, the main text of the report is mainly based on the contents of the claims and accusations of hostile groups and terrorist cults,” he said.

Meanwhile, Khatibzadeh also described a recent UN General Assembly resolution about the situation of human rights in Iran as “politically motivated” and “unfair.”

“As has been repeatedly stressed, such resolutions are politically motivated, biased, and unfair,” adding that the resolution was unconstructive and lacked support from the majority of member states.
