Presidential adviser suggests independent human rights institution

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A senior Presidential adviser has highlighted the necessity of setting up an independent human rights institution to provide legitimate and reliable reports at national and international levels.

Hesamulddin Ashna’s, Presidential adviser, remarks came at the 59th meeting of legal affairs coordination council on Saturday.

“An institution independent from the government, the parliament and the judiciary panel should be legally set up,” he suggested.

“The institution should not fulfil its mission under monitoring or pressure of the government or judiciary bodies.”

The advisor argued that without such a body the human rights charter will remain “incomplete”.

“Without such an independent national institution, human and citizenship rights charter is incomplete, because when we talk about citizenship rights and their violations, we could not expect those who violate them embark on reporting their own violations,” Ashna explained.

He went on to say, “The proposed institution should be capable of revealing its findings in the fields of human and citizenship rights openly and clearly. Such a watchdog institution can turn the citizenship rights from a silent text into a dynamic spirit in the society.”

“In our country, the issue of human rights has been misused and misunderstood (and) that is why the (vice president) for legal affairs should hold consultation with the Supreme National Security Council to clear up misunderstandings and at the same time deepen the officials’ attention to the issue of human and citizenship rights,” Ashna stated.

Ashna added, “The same consultation should be done with the judiciary panel to convince the panel’s judges that there will be no interference between the missions of the panel and the proposed institution.”

‘Serious’ support for Yemeni nation among achievements of Ankara Summit: Ashna

“Unified and firm stances of Iranian, Turkish and Russian presidents on Aramco attacks and their serious support for the Yemeni people and condemning the other side are among most important achievements of Ankara trilateral summit,” Hessam al-Din Ashna tweeted on Tuesday in Persian.

“The unmatched role of this political convergence in security deterrence will be remembered at that historic moment,” added the head of Presidential Center for Strategic Studies.

The remarks came after Yemen’s Ansarullah movement and their allies in the Yemeni army deployed as many as 10 drones to bomb Abqaiq and Khurais oil facilities run by the Saudi state-owned oil company Aramco before dawn Saturday.

The unprecedented attack knocked out more than half of Saudi crude output, or 5% of global supply, prompting Saudi and US officials to claim without any evidence that it probably originated from Iraq or Iran.

President Rouhani said on Monday that Yemeni army’s recent drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities were merely for legitimate self-defense, and no one can expect them to remain silent when their country is destroyed. In a press conference in Ankara, Rouhani highlighted that the people of Yemen “have to respond” to the foreign aggression and the influx of US and European weapons to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

“They cannot avoid legitimate defense when their country is being destroyed. What Yemenis do is legitimate self-defense, and reciprocal attack,” Rouhani said.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a coalition of its vassal states in waging war on Yemen since March 2015 to reinstall former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who resigned from presidency and fled to Riyadh in January 2015 amid popular outcry over corruption and mismanagement of the economy. Houthi Ansarullah fighters then took over state matters to prevent the country from descending into chaos.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the Saudi-led war has claimed the lives of over 60,000 Yemenis since January 2016.

The war has taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.

‘No preconditions’ means no sanctions

Iranian President’s Adviser Hesamodin Ashna addressed US President Donald Trump on Wed., reminding him that ‘no preconditions’ for meeting with President Rouhani means ‘no enforcement of illegal sanctions’ on Iran.

Iranian President’s Adviser Hesamodin Ashna reacted to US President Donald Trump’s call for a meeting with President Rouhani without any preconditions, voicing doubt that Trump and his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo could reach an agreement on the definition of “no preconditions”.

“’No preconditions’ means ‘No enforcement of illegal sanctions’,” elaborated Ashna in a tweet on Wednesday. “Sanctions and dialogue are contradictory.”

Following Trump’s comment about his willingness to meet with Rouhani with ‘no preconditions’, Pompeo contradicted Trump, listing preconditions that had to be met first before such a meeting could take place.

In his most recent comments, Trump said he had a “feeling they’ll be talking to us pretty soon, and maybe not, but that’s OK, too.” He went on to describe the 2015 Iran nuclear deal a “horror show”.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said sanctions and pressure are at odds with US’ call for holding dialogue, which requires mutual respect and adherence to international obligations.

Amano received Iran’s clear message on its nuclear program

Iranian President’s Adviser, Hesamodin Ashna, said Thu. that the nuclar watchdog chief has received Iran’s clear message on the future of the country’s peaceful nuclear program.

“Amano has received a clear and decisive message on the future of Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities in case the EU’s package of proposals does not measure up to Tehran’s expectations,” Iranian President’s Adviser, Hesamodin Ashna, wrote in a tweet on Thursday.

His remarks referred to the Wed. meeting between President Rouhani and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano in Vienna, during which Rouhani discussed Iran’s concerns regarding the US’ unilateral pullout from the JCPOA and the imbalance the move has caused; “in such a situation, the other signatories have the responsibility to counter this move and compensate for the imbalance of the commitments,” Rouhani told Amano, stressing that Iran would make a new decision concerning the future of the nuclear deal if the country’s economic interests are not served.

During the meeting with President Rouhani on Wed., Amano once again reiterated Iran’s full compliance with the nuclear deal, and voiced appreciation to Iran for showing restraint after US’ unlawful withdrawal from the agreement.

Meanwhile, foreign ministers from Iran and five world powers – UK, France, Germany, China, and Russia – will meet in Austrian capital on Friday to discuss the European Union’s package of proposals aimed at ensuring that Iran gets enough economic benefits to be willing to stay in the deal despite US sanctions.
