TEHRAN (Iran News) –The French video game publisher Ubisoft released the first major installment of the popular video game franchise “Prince of Persia” in nearly 14 years on January 18 titled “The Lost Crown” and it is the first time since it was first unveiled in 1989 in which the characters actually speak Farsi.

Speaking about the collaboration with Ubisoft Montpellier, a subsidiary of Ubisoft, the secretary general of the Tehran Broadcast & Dubbing Association said: “The French company, together with an intermediary company in Iran, negotiated with different groups and asked for voice samples.

“Finally, they selected Moj-e-Ketab Digital Publishing Group for dubbing the game in Persian,” Honaronline quoted Sobhan Ekrami, who served as the director of the dubbing team, as saying on Sunday.

“When the dubbing process was over, they liked the work. According to their procedure, before the official release of the game, the company had some gamers, especially some famous Persian-speaking gamers, play and assess the game. Fortunately, it was well received by all the gamers. Upon the release of the game, the company suggested to all the customers that for a better experience of the game play it in Farsi,” he added.

The “Prince of Persia” franchise draws heavily on Persian mythology and Iranian culture, but until now has always been in English.

The game’s designer, Mounir Radi, said that the developers wanted to “depict and respect Persia and Iran” in the gameplay. “It was natural for us to say, ‘if we are going into this culture, we have to be true to this culture, we have to do this”.

Among the updates for the new version was an increased effort to add elements like language and history that made the game more authentic to the region it depicts.

The game’s producer Abdelhak Elguess said they were “very proud” to have made the changes. “We have so many people from Persian cultures that are very happy,” he said.

Emad Saedi has been a fan of the games since he was a child when he connected with the series’ cultural references to Persia but says something always felt off.

“Those games were missing a fundamental element of the culture the prince came from: language,” he said. “My friends and I always had this question that if he’s a Persian prince, how come he speaks English or any language except Persian? Isn’t that odd?”

Emad said it is a “huge step forward” to include the language, in part because he felt Iran and Persian culture are “under-represented in today’s world”.

“In a world that is saturated with Western culture content, seeing something from other parts of the world feels like a breath of fresh air, especially from a hidden gem like Iran,” he said. “It feels like we are finally being seen after being ignored for many years. There are many wonderful stories in our culture with massive commercial potential – I hope the entertainment industry recognizes this opportunity and continues to invest in them”.

Persian is spoken by a significant number of people worldwide, totaling around 130 million. Other than Iran, it serves as an official language in various countries including Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

“Prince of Persia” is centered around a series of action-adventure games focused on various incarnations of the eponymous Prince, set in ancient and medieval Persia.

Its latest installment “The Lost Crown” has been released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and received positive reviews from critics and gamers.

The game was heavily inspired by Persian mythology, with Radi adding that the team wanted to “bring some light to a mythology that maybe should be better known,” as well as showing how Persian culture has affected other mythologies.

It doesn’t look much like a controller. In fact, in the images Microsoft has made available, where it’s often shot against a pristine white background devoid of other objects, the new Adaptive Controller for Xbox looks like something you might use with your feet.

It certainly doesn’t look like what you might imagine an Xbox controller for people with neurological or muscular issues might look like.

This has often been a major issue when it comes to gaming. While I no longer have the magazine issue, the game company Sierra On-Line used to publish its own magazine detailing upcoming products and titles. I remember reading about a father who had modified a joystick so that his quadriplegic son could play and beat King’s Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder. The ability of technology to bring experiences to people who otherwise would not have been able to enjoy them is one of the most fundamentally positive uses of technology that exists.

But as Microsoft’s blog post notes, designing commercial solutions that can address the varying needs of a wide range of people at a scale and price point that make sense for commercial manufacture is often difficult. Microsoft designed the controller in partnership with The AbleGamers Charity, The Cerebral Palsy Foundation, Craig Hospital, SpecialEffect, and Warfighter Engaged, and states its goal was to make the device as adaptable as possible, to work with common adaptive switches gamers with limited mobility may already own, and with two large, reprogrammable buttons.

This flexibility is where the “Adaptive” in the Adaptive controller comes from, and it’s a very smart move. Microsoft writes:

“To make the Xbox Adaptive Controller a viable solution for the widest possible range of gamers with limited mobility, we’ve worked closely with third-party manufacturers to support external inputs which can be plugged in to the new controller. These inputs include PDP’s One-Handed Joystick for the Xbox Adaptive Controller, Logitech’s Extreme 3D Pro Joystick, and Quadstick’s Game Controller. We couldn’t be prouder to have their support in introducing the Xbox Adaptive Controller. More recommended partner devices can be found here.”

There are 19 ports on the back of the controller for 3.5mm hardware to attach to various devices, including external thumbsticks, buttons, and triggers. There are USB ports and the two, front-mounted large programmable buttons. There’s support for a stereo headphone jack, dedicated buttons for specific Xbox functions, and even a USB-C port.

This controller is explicitly designed to address one of the most fundamental problems in bringing gaming to people with neurological or muscular disabilities. In many cases, these solutions must be custom-designed to fit the needs of the individual in question. A person with cerebral palsy has different challenges than someone who might have lost a limb in an accident, to pick two simple examples. Because the number of people with any single condition tends to be much smaller than the overall gaming peripheral market, it can be difficult to get companies to pay attention to the needs of such customers. Providing a single overarching way to control these peripherals and integrate them into the console and PC ecosystem could encourage vendors to pay more attention to the product category. And don’t let the “Xbox” logo fool you — the base is fully PC compatible.

Ars Technica spent some time with the controller in the lab and has some additional information on which peripherals work with the platform. Instead of trying to build a single controller that could spread across every potential use case (a practical impossibility), Microsoft focused on building a platform that could be the starting point for a custom Xbox or PC controller at the low price of just $100. It won’t solve the affordability issue on its own, but it may encourage more companies to build hardware in this space, thereby leading to longer-term cost reductions.

The war game, described as a “security drill” and codenamed Muharram, is being held under the supervision of the IRGC’s Hamze Sayyid al-Shohada Base.

High-ranking commanders, including IRGC Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami and IRGC Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, were present in the operation zone as the drill’s main stage kicked off on Sunday.

Various military units, such as the IRGC infantry, the artillery, the electronic warfare units, ground force airborne division, missile units and drone squad have taken part in the war game.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the drill, General Pakpour said the purpose of the exercise is to boost coordination among the military units and carry out joint operations involving various branches.

He also noted that the drill’s zone used to be a hotbed of counter-revolutionary militants in the past, who have been cleansed following the IRGC’s mighty operations.

In separate comments, spokesperson for the drill, General Habib Shahsavari, said the main stage of the Muharram war game has been launched in the provinces of West Azarbaijan and Kurdistan.

The exercise is aimed at simulating the conditions in a real war, he added.

Highlighting the importance that Iran attaches to the security of its borders, the general said any hostile plan against the country’s frontiers will draw a decisive response from the armed forces.

TEHRAN – Regarding his efforts to solve the connection issues of online games, ICT minister has announced the start of negotiations with international game companies to transfer their servers to Iran.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Iran’s ICT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said that he would pursue the demands of Iranian netizens to improve connection quality for online video games. Recently he had asked internet users to file their complaints regarding the issue.

Jahromi has said direct connections have already been established with two companies offering online video games. Now he has declared that this number has increased to four.

Addressing gamers, the ICT minister explained two parameters influential in internet connections which are ‘ping’ also known as latency and ‘jitter’. He noted, “now that we have direct connections with ‘Valve’, ‘Riot Games’, ‘Blizzard’ and ‘Gameforge’, not only the connection ping has increased to 80 milliseconds which is 50 percent better than before, but also jitter has significantly improved.” He went on to add, “without doubt, this temporary solution will improve the experience of gamers.”

“In the meantime, negotiations to transfer the servers of popular game companies are underway as part of a permanent solution for this problem, and I will inform you of our progress in the near future,” the ICT minister continued.

In the end as a side note he wrote that cellular network isn’t favorable for online games. It is recommended that users connect through internet service providers.

Referring to domestic video games, he stressed that “some of our young talents are interested in developing video games. These people rely on the government’s support, so I hope there will come a day when the game industry in Iran has finally flourished.”
