TEHRAN (Iran News) According to Iran’s National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), Mohammad Ali Dadvar, deputy head of the company, reported that gasoline production rose by 4.3 million liters per day and diesel output increased by 4.7 million liters per day between September 2023 and September 2024.

He explained that gasoline production stood at 98 million liters per day in the year leading up to September 2023, and has now reached 102.3 million liters per day. Diesel production also increased from 111 million liters per day to 115.7 million liters per day over the same period.

Dadvar emphasized that this growth was achieved without the addition of any new refineries, yet the increase in output is equivalent to that of a new 100,000-barrel-per-day facility.

Comparing the first six months of the current year to the same period last year, Dadvar said gasoline production increased from 98 million liters per day to 98.5 million liters per day, despite full maintenance and reconstruction of the RFCC unit at Arak’s Shazand refinery, which has not produced gasoline since early August 2024.

During this period, however, gasoline consumption rose sharply, climbing from 124.5 million liters per day to 133 million liters per day, an increase of 8 million liters per day.

Diesel production also rose from 112 million liters per day in the first half of last year to 115 million liters per day in the first half of this year.

Dadvar also pointed to an increase in refinery feedstock, noting that crude processed by refineries grew from 2.287 million barrels per day to 2.359 million barrels per day from September 2023 to September 2024. In the first six months of this year, feedstock rose from 2.302 million to 2.321 million barrels per day.

He detailed the comprehensive overhaul of the RFCC unit at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Shazand refinery in Arak. The unit had undergone only emergency repairs over the past 13 years, causing a significant decline in its gasoline and diesel output.

Despite high demand pressures from increased travel during the New Year and summer holidays, as well as disruptions linked to the recent 12-day conflict, the entire RFCC unit—including both domestic and international components of its reactors—was fully rebuilt to prevent permanent shutdown.

Mojtaba Ghahramani said the fourth naval zone of the IRGC sent troops to the Persian Gulf to take the ship as part of operations to find and combat organized smuggling.

The ship was carrying more than 50 thousand liters of smuggled fuel.

Without mentioning the name of the country that owns the ship, Ghahramani said four persons had been detained in connection to the smuggling.

He emphasized that the cargo on the ship was confiscated on court order and given to the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) and that all individuals engaged in the theft will face prosecution.

Back on July 7, IRGC seized a vessel that carrying hundreds of liters of smuggled fuel in the Persian Gulf waters.

Also on August 12, the Iranian authorities seized a vessel carrying 277,000 liters of smuggled fuel in the waters around Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf.

The smugglers intended to transfer the consignment to one of the Persian Gulf littoral states.

Twelve crew members of the vessel have been detained for further investigation. The smuggled fuel is worth 61 billion rials (about $200,000), the report added.

Jalal Amini, head of the anti-trafficking police, said in July that smuggled goods worth 2 trillion rials (nearly $7.1 million) have been confiscated across the country through the third stage of the plan to combat the smuggling of goods and currency.

The smuggled items include basic goods, home appliances, electronic and medical equipment, cars, cosmetics, clothes, and currencies.

Every year, $20-25 billion worth of goods are smuggled in and out of the country, which, if stopped, will create hundreds of thousands of jobs, MP Hassan Norouzi has said

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iran has unequivocally denied the U.S. Navy’s allegations that it attempted to sneak 70 tons of a missile fuel component onto a ship headed for Yemen and concealed it amid bags of fertilizer.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York denied the accusations as unfounded in a statement on Thursday, saying Tehran is firmly committed to UN Security Council Resolution 2216, which places an arms embargo on Yemen.

The statement said that none of the allegations made against Iran over the smuggling of guns to Yemen had been proven. Iran “has not taken any action against the resolution and is actively complying with the sanctions committee constituted to supervise the arms embargo,” it said.

Iran is “doing its utmost to restore the truce agreement and enable talks between Yemeni factions as soon as feasible in order to achieve peace and stability in Yemen,” the diplomatic mission added.

The U.S. Navy purportedly said on Tuesday that on November 8 the Coast Guard ship USCGC John Scheuerman and the guided-missile destroyer USS The Sullivans intercepted a traditional wooden sailing vessel known as a dhow in the Sea of Oman.

It claimed sailors allegedly found sachets of ammonium perchlorate concealed within what at first glance looked to be a consignment of 100 tons of urea.

In addition, the forces claimed that the quantity of ammonium perchlorate found could power more than a dozen medium-range ballistic missiles that members of the Ansarullah movement have used to launch retaliatory attacks against targets inside Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The president of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council criticized U.S. Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking earlier this month for thwarting efforts to prolong the UN-brokered ceasefire and compared the situation in his nation to a ticking time bomb.

“We are in a position of no peace and no war. Although we had made significant progress in earlier rounds of negotiations, the American envoy’s visit to the region derailed those efforts,” Mahdi al-Mashat was reported as saying in Sanaa on November 7 by Yemen’s official Saba news agency.

Al-Mashat referred to Lenderking’s trip to the region beginning on October 11 to ostensibly assist the UN-led efforts to extend the cease-fire in Yemen as “while the U.S. ambassador pretends to be a peace dove, he is more an ill-omened owl.”

Together with its Arab allies, the U.S. and other Western powers provided Saudi Arabia with munitions and logistical support when it began its destructive war against Yemen in March 2015.

The goal was to overthrow the Ansarullah resistance movement, which had been in charge of the government in Yemen in the absence of a functioning one, and reinstate Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi’s pro-Riyadh regime.

Despite the fact that the Saudi-led coalition has not succeeded in achieving any of its goals, the war has killed hundreds of thousands of Yemenis and caused the greatest humanitarian disaster in history.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –The United Kingdom’s announcement of a contingency plan involving three-hour power blackouts reflects the bleak mood across Europe as the reality of gas shortages begins to sink in.

The UK has put the public on notice that the chances of gas scarcity this winter has risen significantly, triggering the plan by the National Grid’s Electricity System Operator to prioritize heating over electricity in the household.

In the bitterly cold winter months there are now major fears that gas supplies are set to fall short of consumer demand.

But this may just be the beginning in terms of energy supplies. Speaking at a summit of government leaders in Prague, French President Emmanuel Macron said that 2023/2024 winter will be even harder for Europeans than the coming winter.

The European Commission has already discussed potential strategies to cap gas prices across the continent amid the energy crisis. However, reports have emerged of division among member states about the emergency measures.

In any case, a new report by the International Energy Agency says households across the continent must bring the heating down and adjust their boilers as part of measures that are needed in preparation of Russian gas supplies being completely cut off.

“The complete shutdown of Russian pipeline gas supplies to the European Union cannot be excluded ahead of the 2022/23 heating season – when the European gas market is at its most vulnerable,” the agency wrote in its quarterly gas report.

Russia blames Western sanctions on its energy sector, in the aftermath of the Ukraine conflict, for disrupting flows. Moscow says the punitive measures have led to maintenance issues on the main Nord Stream 1 pipeline, pumping gas to Germany under the Baltic Sea.

The UK’s National Grid’s Electricity System Operator has revealed the power cut measure is an update on the UK’s state of energy readiness for the winter. The operator is calling on the public to help out by taking measures such as saving energy during peak hours and signing up to an energy-saving scheme with their supplier.

Coal generators, which the operator said would have otherwise closed, will be used in a bid to help ease the risk of the lights going out. The UK relies heavily on gas to generate its electricity supplies.

Adam Bell, the former chief of energy strategy at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, has warned that in “a very cold January, we’re unable to import power from the continent, we can’t get more gas because everywhere in Europe is demanding it as well and this means that we have to shut down some of our gas power stations.”

He says the country cannot prepare for this situation now because of little capacity to store gas, adding, “We can store some gas but not enough to cover a week or a fortnight.”

This comes as countries across the European Union have agreed to voluntary cut back on gross electricity consumption by 10% along with a mandatory reduction of 5% during peak hours. The decision has been described as “extraordinary measures”.

The European Council said: “Member states will identify 10% of their peak hours between 1 December 2022 and 31 March 2023 during which they will reduce the demand.”

The war in Ukraine and subsequent sanctions on Russian gas have cut Moscow’s gas supplies to Europe considerably. Before the outbreak of the war, the EU relied on 40% of its gas supplies from Russia and it is now scrambling for alternative supplies.

Analysts have been accusing the 27-nation bloc of acting as an American proxy as it did very little to avoid the conflict in Eastern Europe and it is European families that are paying the costs of the energy crisis.

Washington, which has long been a staunch opponent of Russian gas supplies to Europe, is now preparing to ship its own liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the continent to replace the Russian.

However, critics have accused American companies of making too much profit for the supply of LNG, something that has been echoed by the Germany economy minister who accused the U.S. of charging “astronomical” prices for their supplies.

Speaking to German media, Robert Habeck said, “Some countries, including friendly ones, sometimes achieve astronomical prices [for their gas]. Of course, that brings with it problems that we have to talk about.” He has called for more solidarity from the U.S. toward its allies in Europe that are being starved from their main source of natural gas.

The United States contacted us when oil prices shot up, and the national oil reserves in Europe were tapped as a result. I think such solidarity would also be good for curbing gas prices,” he added.

Household energy bills have skyrocketed across Europe this year as a result of the Ukraine conflict but in countries such as the UK have come under some protection from government caps on wholesale costs. But this means the taxpayer will pay the costs for all the wholesale prices above the government cap level.

Amid rising record inflation levels as a result of the energy crisis, the British government of Liz Truss has come under fire from the International Monetary Fund for its contradictory economic and monetary policies. The IMF has said “avoiding indiscriminate fiscal support is critical.”
Using price controls should be minimized in favor of offering direct support low and middle-income families, it has added.
Meanwhile, one leading campaign group has said that disabled people are being used as “collateral damage” amid rising inflation. Dan White, one of the leads at the Disability Poverty Campaign Group (DPCG) and DR UK policy and campaigns officer has told British media the cost of living crisis is hitting the disabled community the hardest
It added, “We urge the Government to act to support people now, without delay.

“Disabled people’s energy costs are often higher than those of non-disabled people because we may need to run the heating more (to cope with lower mobility or prevent severe illness due to weakened immune systems) and to charge essential medical and mobility equipment, such as oxygen machines, ceiling track hoists, and suction machines to prevent choking.

“We at Disability Rights UK are hearing frequent stories of disabled people cutting back on energy, food and medication because people just don’t have the money to meet every day essential needs. We are hearing these stories from disabled people and families with disabled children over and over again.

“Disabled people should not be the collateral damage of the cost of living crisis.”

And not for the first time, when there is economic turmoil in the West, there is also economic discrimination against minority groups. New research has found black and minority ethnic people are now 2.5 times more likely to be in relative poverty and 2.2 times more likely to be in deep poverty than their white counterparts.

Despite only making up 15% of the British population, 26% of those in deep poverty are from Black or minority ethnic communities. The report found that progress towards closing the economic gap between white and ethnically diverse communities has stalled since the 2007-08 financial crisis, with inequalities becoming particularly strong since the pandemic.

Dr Halima Begum, CEO of the Runnymede Trust, says, “We talk about this cost-of-living crisis in universal terms. No one is immune from the consequences. However, what’s clear from this research is that some groups are less equal and more impacted than others, including our black and minority ethnic communities.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) –The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has seized a vessel carrying 757,000 liters of smuggled fuel in the Persian Gulf.

The smugglers intended to transfer the consignment to another country, IRIB quoted IRGC official Ramezan Zirahi as saying on Saturday.

Seven crew members of the vessel have been handed out to authorities for further investigation.

Some 1.555 million liters of smuggled fuel worth 400 billion rials (about $1.33 million) have been seized since the start of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21). The smuggled consignment is estimated to value 222 billion rials (about $730,000), the report added.

Some 1.555 million liters of smuggled fuel worth 400 billion rials (about $1.33 million) have been seized since the start of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21) and 24 smugglers have been arrested in this regard.

Jalal Amini, head of the anti-trafficking police, said in July that smuggled goods worth 2 trillion rials (nearly $7.1 million) have been confiscated across the country through the third stage of the plan to combat the smuggling of goods and currency.

In order to help domestic production, the fight against smuggling is underway continuously through monitoring of goods (origin and destination), implementation of plans, periodic and intermittent inspections of roads, etc. are on the agenda by the anti-trafficking police throughout the country, he explained.

Every year, $20-25 billion worth of goods are smuggled in and out of the country, which, if stopped, will create hundreds of thousands of jobs, MP Hassan Norouzi has said.

Mohammad Hassan Nejad, a member of the Majlis (the Iranian parliament) energy committee, says the smuggled fuel amounts to 22 million liters per day. With a 50 cent per liter profit, the total daily income adds up to 400 trillion rials annually or $3.3 billion, nearly the same as the country’s annual development budget.

In June 2020, the first phase of the national anti-smuggling plan was implemented with the priority of customs, tobacco, and transit goods nationwide.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Advisor to President and Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones says the UAE earns some $20b annually for bunker fuel and in fact offering services to the ships and vessels in the Persian Gulf which move towards Fujairah Port and unfortunately major part of the bunk fuel of the UAE is provided by the ships which smuggle fuel from Iran to Fujairah.

Speaking to ILNA, Saeed Mohammad pointed to the inauguration of the first phase of Qeshm super heavy oil refiner by President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi and said this refinery has been built by the private sector and its first phase has been completed.

He added that the capacity of the first phase is 35,000 barrels of super heavy oil that the oil is provided through the Soroush and Nowruz fields and some strategic products like bitumen are provided there. He added that the refinery can produce one million tons of bitumen annually as well as 6.5m tons of light oil.

He added that the second phase of the refinery with capacity of 35,000 barrels has progressed 20% physically and with finance of the private sector, this phase will be completed and come on stream.

He then pointed to his visit to the bunkering facilities of Qeshm Island and said the IAE earns $20b annually through bunkering and offering services and fuel supply to vessels that major part of its fuel is smuggled via Iran and moing towards Fujairah while Iran should revive its competition advantage in the region for bunker fuel.

He added that in order to attract vessels for refueling in Iranian ports like in Qashm, the ports need to boost its infrastructures and to provide recreational facilities for the crew of the vessels and this will lead to considerable forex earning for the island and its native citizens. He added the preparations have started for the launch of bunker fuel on Qeshm Island.

On the construction of the national Persian Gulf bridge project on Qeshm Island, Mohammad said that the Persian Gulf bridge will connect Bandar Abbas Port to Qeshm Island, adding that this is a long dream of the public in those areas and the council has planned to start and complete the bridge in 2.5 years and it will be built with a budget around 280m euros.

He reiterated that in order to reduce its financial burden on the government, there has been an agreement with the contractor to be paid some part of its money through barter of oil and for this reason the council has asked the government to include barter of oil for 100m euros in next year budget which has been approved.

Mohammad noted that some other part of the budget will be provided via sales of luxurious villas of the Presidency and soon those villas will be rented to earn money for pre-payment for the start of the project.

He also vowed that soon the problem of water supply to the villages of Qeshm will be resolved through the creation of water desalination systems which will be carried out by the private sector.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian ambassador to Beirut says Tehran is ready to build power plants in Lebanon.

Mohammad Jalal Firuznia made the remarks in a televised program hosted by Al-Manar network on Thursday evening.

According to the Al-Akhbar newspaper, quoting Al-Manar, the ambassador first addressed the issue of Iran’s fuel shipments to Lebanon and said the Islamic Republic will not allow the U.S. to keep the Lebanese in starvation through brutal and illegal sanctions.

Highlighting that Tehran will not allow any side in the region and the world at large to prevent fuel delivery, Firuznia said that Iranian fuel tankers will reach their destination and more vessels are on the way.

The diplomat added that the ship would enter Lebanon as part of legitimate trade and that there was no need for other parties to intervene.

He also called U.S. unilateral sanctions against Iran’s oil sector “illegal” and stressed that neither the Americans nor others have the right to interfere in the process of sending fuel to Lebanon, noting that this is a matter for Lebanon and Iran to decide.

In another part of his remarks, the ambassador said that Tehran had previously offered assistance to Lebanon to construct power plants in the country but he did not receive a response from the Lebanese government.

Firuznia stated that Iran’s proposals and readiness remain in place, and expressed hope that the Lebanese government will respond positively to this proposal.

“Some parties seem to be preventing the Lebanese government from responding to [this proposal],” he said. “We understand the situation in Lebanon, but it is our duty to make such proposals and declare our readiness.”

About two weeks ago, the secretary-general of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement announced the departure of Iranian fuel ships to Lebanon.

In a speech on the occasion of Ashura, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah announced that the fuel ships would sail from Iran to Lebanon to resolve the fuel crisis.

Nasrallah warned the United States and the Zionist regime about attacking Iranian oil ships, stressing that the Lebanese resistance would consider these ships as their country’s territory.

Just hours after the Lebanese Hezbollah secretary general’s speech, Washington spoke of claims about aiding Lebanon, with the Lebanese presidency announcing in a statement that the U.S. ambassador in Beirut was in contact with the president.

According to reports, the U.S. has announced a plan to import electricity and gas from Jordan and Egypt to Lebanon.

The move comes as the United States has never made such an offer during Lebanon’s year-long crisis, despite its dire need for fuel.

Lebanon has been grappling with a severe economic and political crisis for a year.

The country was the scene of an explosion in the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020, which killed more than 190 people and injured 6,500. The explosion plunged Lebanon into a political-economic-social crisis.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Islamic Republic of Iran has proved that it has never be frightened with the world hegemony’s bully and whenever it has stood firm against the bully, it has succeeded and this time the dispatch of the fuel tankers to Lebanon and earlier to Syria and Venezuela has been a proof for this claim.

According to reports, Iran’s first fuel tanker that set sail toward Lebanon two weeks ago has entered the Mediterranean Sea, as a second ship also begins its journey to assuage the sufferings endured by the Lebanese people under severe fuel shortages and American sanctions.

Data from TankerTrackers, a global tanker tracking website, showed that the first ship has already entered the Mediterranean, Iranian news outlets reported on Monday. Citing informed sources, Lebanon’s al-Manar television network also confirmed the report.

Amid threats from Zionists and U.S. sanctions, Iran decided to help Lebanon to overcome the fuel shortage what like it did in the past for Syria or Venezuela. Iran proved that if you stand firmly against the bully, the world hegemony will have to retreat and wait and see your courage. In other words, if there is a will, there is a way.

This humanitarian and brave move has consolidated Iran’s position among the Muslim and freedom-seeking nations especially in the resistant front countries.

Earlier an Iranian legislator said the Islamic Republic must supply needed fuel to countries that are members of the resistance front, so that those states would not be harmed in this regard and could ease their energy crises.

“We must offer any help we can to the resistance bloc, so that they would not face any problem for provision of fuel, which is among the basic needs of any country,” Hadi Beiginejad, a member of the Energy Commission at Iran’s Parliament, said.

Beiginejad, who was elaborating on Iran’s recent measure to send fuel tankers to Lebanon, added, “Selling oil derivatives and fuel, which have more customers, is easier than selling crude oil, whose buyers are limited.”

He described it as important to Iran to meet the needs of a strategic and friendly country like Lebanon.

“Countries like Lebanon, Syria, and Venezuela are very important to Iran, because they stood by our side in time of need. Therefore, we must take steps to solve these countries’ problems as much as we can,” the Iranian parliamentarian highlighted.

“Just as [late Syrian President] Hafez al-Assad firmly stood by Iran’s side during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) and did not withhold any help, we must rush to assist countries like Syria and Lebanon, which are now in trouble,” he added.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been supportive of the Muslim and oppressed states and nations against the oppression of the world powers because one of the principles of the Islamic Republic is to help the oppressed people, especially the Muslims.

After helping Syrian government to survive against the pro-West terrorists, the Muslim world has trusted Iran’s power and they can now rely on Iran’s timely assistance either in provision of required goods or in military supervision.

Now the dispatch of fuel tankers to Lebanon after successful dispatch to Syria and Venezuela has shown Iran’s dare in encountering the West and Zionists’ bully and threat and actually the era of “war of fuel tankers” has begun. The West should accept the wills of nations and it is not in a position to decide the nations’ trade and fate.

On Monday Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh cautioned against any move targeting the tankers, saying that neither the U.S. nor any other country is in a position to stop legitimate trade between Iran and Lebanon.

“We are very serious about exercising our sovereignty and everyone should know that legitimate trade in this sphere is one of the basic principles of international law,” Khatibzadeh said.

Now we should wait and see more dispatches of fuel tankers to other countries and the U.S. and its allies should seat and watch how Iran continues its humanitarian moves or sales of its oil amid the West and Zionist’ anger.

The U.S. and its Western allies have currently got stuck in the Afghanistan quagmire and they are in a humiliating situation and the Taliban unveiled the truel face of the West that the Western countries are weak and unable to do anything when the nations and governments are determined to stand against them firmly.

According to reports, the second and third shipments of fuel to Lebanon will be imminent and the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to dictate its power and determination on the West and its enemies which try to bring it down but every time they fail.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – While many observers in Lebanon and beyond were projecting a total collapse of order in the Mediterranean Arab country, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah opened a new pathway for Lebanon to break free from a U.S.-led economic straitjacket.

Nasrallah dropped a bombshell last week when he announced that an oil tanker carrying Iranian fuel oil was bound for Lebanon. Addressing a commemorative ceremony marking the Day of Ashura on Thursday, Hezbollah’s chief announced that the first of several ships loaded with fuel oil would sail from Iran to Lebanon within hours, warning the United States and Israel against targeting it.

“Our first ship has completed all arrangements and will sail within hours from Iran to Lebanon with the blessing of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him),” he said, noting, “This ship will be followed by other ships, but we gave priority to diesel oil on the first ship because it is a top priority and is linked to people’s lives.”

In a stark warning to Washington and Tel Aviv, which oppose any fuel trade between Tehran and Beirut, Nasrallah declared that the ship will be considered as a Lebanese property the moment it leaves Iran and that any aggression against it would be seen as an aggression against Lebanon. “God willing, this ship and others will arrive safely, we don’t want confrontation with anyone. We are only after helping our people… We reject to be humiliated in any military, political or economic war. We refuse the humiliation of our people, let no one dare to challenge us,” he asserted.

The announcement sent the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon scrambling to find a way to prevent Lebanon from importing fuel from Iran. The ambassador, Dorothy Shea, rushed to speak with Lebanese President Michel Aoun hours after Nasrallah’s announcement.

“President Aoun received a phone call from the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shea, informing him of the U.S. administration’s decision to help Lebanon import electricity from Jordan through Syria through Egyptian gas,” the Lebanese presidency said on Twitter. It also quoted Shea as saying that “transfer of Egyptian gas will be facilitated through Jordan and Syria to northern Lebanon.”

Shea also told Aoun that negotiations are underway with the World Bank to secure financing for the cost of Egyptian gas, the repair and strengthening of electricity transmission lines, and the required maintenance of gas pipelines.

The U.S. ambassador’s conversation marked the return of her anti-Hezbollah media activism. During the Trump administration, Shea had launched a propaganda campaign against Hezbollah in parallel with the Trump White House’s tightening of the noose on Hezbollah.

If Lebanon is now in an economic tailspin, it’s largely because of the U.S. continued efforts to prevent any economic cooperation with Beirut under the pretext of combating Hezbollah’s influence. U.S. Arab allies in the region, who once helped Lebanon financially, have refrained from providing any aid to the religiously diverse Arab country.

Then there was the Iranian helping hand. Iran has always offered to help the Lebanese people. But political factionalism and malign foreign influence in Beirut have stood in the way of Iranian help.

Nasrallah announced the import of Iranian fuel only after the fuel crisis in Lebanon reached new heights with almost all Western countries and their Arab allies refusing to alleviate the crisis.

And when Hezbollah declared the start of the import of Iranian fuel, Shea saw an opportunity to exploit the situation. First, Lebanese politicians and media outlets close to the West started to spread speculations about possible American penalties being leveled against Lebanon for importing fuel from a country under U.S. sanctions that is Iran. Second, Shea presented the old idea of importing gas and electricity from Egypt through Jordan and Syria, a project that is likely to make Lebanon chose between integration into a regional energy network that includes Israel and facing a total economic collapse.

Nasrallah has offered a third way that would protect Lebanon’s sovereignty and improve the lives of its people. Iran does not dictate any terms whatsoever on the Lebanese and that they can buy anything from Iran without needing to sacrifice their interests on the altar of the American promise of help.
