Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Tehran was closed after an armed assault on January 27, 2023 that led to the death of one of the embassy staff and the injury of two other personnel.

Mousavi said the armed attack was ‘very bitter’ but the evidence and the subsequent trial and the confession by the assailant proved that there were personal incentives behind the incident.

Citing the rich historical backgrounds of both countries and the deep cultural and emotional relations between the people on both sides of the 800-kilometer joint border, the Iranian envoy said, “Both countries tried to overcome the cold stage with wisdom, tactfulness, and resourcefulness to open a new page in bilateral relations.”

The assailant, identified as Yassin Hosseinzadeh, entered Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran with a firearm and started shooting, which left the head of the security service of the embassy killed and two embassy guards wounded.

After the assailant was arrested by the police, he claimed that his wife visited the embassy the year before and never returned.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iran has reacted to remarks by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev regarding the recent attack on Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran, urging Baku to avoid politicizing the attack.

In a statement on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani said the Republic of Azerbaijan had better avoid making prejudgments, politicizing the issue, or spreading propaganda about the attack, according to Tasnim.

“Offering non-legal interpretations on the incident to the public media is not a constructive measure in the course of pursuing the case legally and judicially,” Kanaani stated.

As mentioned by the Iranian officials several times, the case is going through legal processes, the spokesman added, stating that what has been publicized in this regard is based on the explicit confession made by the assailant.

“Naturally, all dimensions of this bitter incident are being investigated and studied accurately and expertly,” he said.

“As expressed in the diplomatic messages and contacts between the senior political and judicial officials of the two countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to provide the Azeri side with the results of investigations. We are confident that the Republic of Azerbaijan’s officials will receive the necessary answers to all ambiguities and questions in their mind in the atmosphere of cooperation and with the adoption of constructive approaches,” Kanaani concluded.

Aliyev has once again levelled accusations on Iran in connection with the recent attack on the South Caucasus country’s embassy in Tehran which resulted in the death of the security head of the diplomatic mission.

The Azerbaijani president spoke to reporters after a trilateral meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Trend News reported.

Responding to a question on the prospects for normalization of relations between Iran and Azerbaijan, Aliyev said, “You heard about the terror act against our embassy, which was the organized act of terror against the Azerbaijani diplomatic premises. During 30-40 minutes the terrorist was not disarmed, and the police cars coming and going, security officers allowed him to break in twice and kill one security officer and injured two others. And only bravery of one of security officers, who with empty hands disarmed that terrorist, saved lives of maybe of dozens of Azerbaijanis. Because they were the families of the diplomats, including children live in that building. Therefore, we demand immediate and transparent investigation. And the fact that right after this act of terror, the terrorist was interviewed by Iranian media demonstrates that he is one of those who was sent by some of the branches of the Iranian establishment.”

He added, “And another strange thing was that just two days after, he was announced as mentally disabled. How could they hold this expertise immediately? That is an attempt to protect him from justice. Therefore, the Iranian government should have a transparent investigation. We must be informed about that, the terrorist must be punished, but most important, those who sent the terrorist those representatives of the Iranian establishment, who did this brutal act against Azerbaijan must be brought to justice. Only after that, we can talk about any kind of normalization.”

The remarks come amid differences of opinion between Iran and Azerbaijan about the motives behind the attack. Iran said the assailant was driven by his personal affairs and thus the attack was not an act of terrorism. On the other hand, Azerbaijan continues to brand the attack as terrorism.

In mid-February, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the prosecutor-general of Iran, discussed the attack on the embassy in a phone call with his Azerbaijani counterpart Kamran Aliyev.

A gunman armed with an AK-47 assault rifle stormed the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran in late January, killing an Azeri national and injuring two others.

November 3: Hatred? No. Rancor of Innocence

Restrictions due to combatting the outbreak of Coronavirus had made observing this year’s National Day of Fight against Global Arrogance, November 3, different with what was in the past. Attention to what the Supreme Leader in his remarks has stated makes completely clear the road of Iranian nation in keeping this cause alive.

IRAN NEWS POLITICAL DESK

Today Islamic Iran has proved its power either spiritually or materially in the world especially to its enemy number one, the Great Satan. The most important reason to accept this claim is that the Supreme Leader in his remarks says today the U.S. sees the Islamic Republic of Iran standing like a strong and unreachable mountain against it. Of course, Iranian nation has not forgotten how UK and the U.S. and their internal devoted mercenaries have behaved as traitors, with the policy and dignity of the nation during the past century. The Islamic Revolution has been able to create ray of hope in the heart of innocent Iranian nation.

In 1979, exactly 25 years after the unsuccessful 28 Mordad 1332 coup d’état (August 18, 1953 coup d’état in Iran), Muslim Student Followers of the Imam’s Line occupied the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. This event with the approval of the late Great Imam Khomeini (R) turned into a turning point in the relations of both countries, and since then the political and economic relations of Iran with the U.S. have remained severed and even during almost 42 years, it has sometimes led to military confrontations.

Although with August 18 coup the presence of Americans in the country became more colorful, the reason behind this presence dated back to many years before the coup, and it seems with taking those factors into consideration, one can analyze the relations between these two states and the lump hidden in the throat of Iranian nation both in pre and post Islamic Revolution victory eras, and he can find the reasons behind the occupation of the spy den (U.S. Embassy) with appropriate understanding of what has happened to Iran and its people.

Addressing this fact that if the U.S. Embassy was not occupied, what could happen to the confrontation of the people and the U.S., and to the way of penetration and enjoying the penetration power. Who is that does not know after the World War II and since 1945, the U.S. hostility against Iranian people has turned into a program to minimize the British influence and to loot more oil resources of Iran. Before addressing the reason behind the U.S. enmity with Iranian nation, I should answer to this question how the U.S. has turned from a colonial country into an imperialist one.

The U.S. was an introversionist country and was busy with its own domestic disputes but after the World War II and the Cold War ended in favor of the West, it coveted West Asia region (Middle East) and stepped in challenging with Russian and British interests. The most important factor which dragged the U.S. into this region can be summarized in oil and what you understand is the very oil.

If I can dare to say how the U.S. was dragged into the oil and the region, I blame the then Iran Prime Minister Dr. Mosaddeq and his simplistic thinking about the world arrogance. When Mosaddeq was disappointed with the British and Freemasonry, he turned to the U.S., and the U.S. took advantage of the open gate and entered.

The U.S., after Mohammad Reza Pahlavi took power, adopted a special approach towards Iran. Before then, the British used to dominate all rulers and statesmen of Iran but according to the documents, with the beginning of the movement for nationalizing the oil industry, the U.S. tried its efforts to attain its oil interests in Iran. Americans with the intention to enjoy Iran’s oil, which was used by the British, entered Iran and expanded their influence. After this, a serious competition between the U.S. and UK heated up for gaining more profits and interests from Iran’s national resources, and after the August 18 coup, the key turned in favor of joint cooperation between these two states.

Here it is necessary to point to the appointment of Fazlollah Zahedi as Iran Prime Minister. According to the existing and revealed documents, at first the British opposed this appointment because they had imprisoned and exiled Zahedi because of being unreliable but Zahedi was a trusted person of Shah as the kingmaker and for the U.S. as a mercenary.

In 1948 and 1949, implementation of U.S. President Harry Truman’s Point Four Program in Iran began, and political, cultural and economic advisors with American programs arrived in Iran. Hence, a joint commission between Iran and the .U.S. was set up that Zahedi presided it for two to three years. Americans found Zahedi a loyal and trusted person and for this reason after the August 18 coup, they brought him to power. The catastrophe of Iranian people’s innocence and converting the British-Russian colony into the American-British colony introduced Iran as the integrated colony state of the West while people kept this innocence inside themselves and considered this presence as a means for loot of their wealth, and in 1979 Iranians put an end to it. The irreplaceable role of the late Imam Khomeini (R) in directing the country towards putting an end to the U.S. presence in Iran cannot be ever forgotten.

According To Iran News, The Iranian Embassy in Amman held a panel discussion in commemoration of the International Quds Day, attended by a number of pro-Palestine activists.

The panel discussion, entitled “Quds Day in Shadow of Deal of the Century”, was held at the Iranian Embassy in Jordan on Thursday.

The meeting, held ahead of the International Quds Day, was attended by two Palestinian figures, namely Leila Khaled and Farouk al-Ezzah, and by former Jordanian lawmaker Hamada Yousef al-Faraneh.

In the panel discussion, Ms. Khaled said the new Palestinian generations have not forgotten the memories of their motherland contrary to what the founders of the Zionist regime had expected.

Ezzah also noted that negotiations over Palestine have been always doomed to failure, stressing that the only remaining option is resistance after the failure of all political methods.

Elsewhere in the gathering, Faraneh denounced the deal of the century as the result of several regional developments, including the weakness and disunity among the Palestinian groups, the wars in the Arab world, as in Syria, Iraq and Libya, and the crisis in the ties between Iran and the Persian Gulf countries.

The Iranian Embassy holds annual meetings in commemoration of the International Quds Day, which falls on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.

Unidentified People Attempt to Take Over Venezuelan Embassy in Brazil: Reports

According To Iran News, Various local media and politicians on Twitter have reported that an unidentified group of people tried to invade Venezuela’s embassy in Brazil’s capital on Wednesday just hours before the start of the BRICS summit.

Venezuelan and Brazilian authorities have not commented on the news yet.

Brazilian daily newspaper Estadao has reported, citing representatives of Juan Guaido, Venezuela’s self-proclaimed interim president that the embassy’s personnel opened the doors to the people, loyal to the self-proclaimed president, voluntarily and reportedly recognized Guaido as the legitimate president.

However, several media outlets reported Venezuelan chargé d’affaires in Brazil, Freddy Meregote, as accusing the intruders of violating Venezuelan territory and calling on social movements and parties to help repel the invasion. Brazilian lawmaker Paulo Pimenta noted “a pretty violent dispute” taking place on the embassy’s premises between the staff and Guaido’s supporters.

“The embassy has been besieged by a group of Brazilians and Venezuelans since early morning, there are signs that the police of the Federal District or the Foreign Ministry have supported or protected the actions of the rebels and intended to take the place by force,” Pimenta said, Sputnik reported.

The unverified Twitter account believed to belong to Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister Yvan Gil has also reported the invasion attempt, calling on Brazilian authorities to respect their international agreements and protect the embassy. Jandira Feghali, a member of the Communist Party of Brazil, reported the incident as well, calling it an “attack on sovereignty and democracy”.

Previously, American authorities forced Venezuelan diplomats to leave their embassy in the US and handed over its facilities to representatives of Juan Guaido, the Venezuelan opposition leader, who proclaimed himself interim president in January 2019.

Brazilian authorities have recognized Guaido’s claims to the presidency, along with many western countries including the US. At the same time, several states, such as Russia, China and Turkey, condemned such moves and expressed their support for democratically elected President Nicolas Maduro. The latter has called Guaido a US “puppet” and accused him of organizing an unsuccessful coup ‘d’état late in April 2019.

U.S. Embassy Takeover a “Revolutionary” Move

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

TEHRAN – Iranians have held rallies in various cities to mark the 40th occupation anniversary of the former US embassy in Tehran, which gained notoriety as the “Den of Spies” after angry students occupied the compound and recovered thousands of documents proving Washington’s espionage activities there.

In the capital Tehran, students joined a large gathering staged outside the former embassy building from the early hours of morning to honor what is regarded as a milestone in Iran’s ongoing fight against the world arrogance.

The demonstrators expressed their opposition to the global hegemony by chanting slogans against the United States and Israel and set their flags on fire in condemnation of their policies of creating havoc in other countries.

The embassy was taken over by hundreds of students on November 4, 1979, nearly nine months after the Islamic Revolution dethroned the U.S.-backed Pahlavi regime.

Addressing the ceremony in Tehran, Commander of Iran’s Army Major General Seyed Abdolrahim Mousavi hailed the Iranian nation’s unity and resistance in the face of external challenges, saying the takeover of the U.S. embassy in 1979 destroyed Washington’s fictitious grandeur.

“Kneeling before the enemies and obeying them will never have any achievements for the Iranian nation and the Islamic Revolution,” General Mousavi added in an address to the public rallies in Tehran on Monday, held to mark the 40th anniversary of the U.S. embassy takeover in Tehran.

“The U.S. embassy takeover was one of the most prominent movements in the history of the world’s revolutions that marred the fake image of the imperialists and the U.S.,” he added.

The Army chief added that “on November 4, 1979, the Iranian nation proved to the world that no arrogant and non-divine power can stand against the will of the nations.”

Major General Mousavi called on people to continue the path of resistance in the face of the enemies’ plots, saying that the strategy of “active resistance” has rendered the enemies inactive and lack of will.

He said that the enemies have suffered irreversible deterioration and their strategic resources are at an end.

Thousands of Iranian demonstrators have issued a statement at the end of rallies on the 40th anniversary of the former U.S. embassy takeover, branding Washington “deceitful” and “mankind’s biggest enemy.”

Students on Monday joined people from all backgrounds to express their opposition to America’s policy of destabilizing other nations.

The demonstration was dominated by a chorus of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” chants by the people present at the venue.

Some of the protesters carried signs with Farsi inscriptions that stated “America on Decline” and “America will soon collapse.”

They also named the current Persian year as the year of America’s decline, referring to recent remarks by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei that the US is on “decline” in terms of power and clout.

Iranian rally-goers also took aim at the Al Saud family for waging a war against the people of Yemen, killing thousands of Yemenis and putting millions of them in the throes of famine since 2015.

The demonstrators wrapped up the nationwide event by issuing a statement that doubled down on Iran’s will to stand up to global arrogance.

The statement called the takeover of the embassy a “genius” and “revolutionary” move that needed to be discussed in universities and schools to familiarize the youths with America’s atrocities against Iran.

“We still view the declining and collapsing America as the number one enemy of the mankind,” the statement noted, adding both the U.S. and its European allies are “untrustworthy.”

They also condemned the “child murdering” regime of Israel as well as the Al Saud regime for their attempts to sow division in the Islamic World.

The demonstrators further reiterated their support for the people of Palestine in the face of Israel’s ongoing occupation of their lands.

Iran Rejects Report on Request for US Consular Services

According To Iran News, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi vehemently rejected a report claiming that Tehran has recently called for the creation of a US consular service in the Swiss embassy in Tehran.

In remarks released on Monday, the Iranian spokesman dismissed as untrue the report published by the Wall Street Journal.

“A US official said Iran had recently asked for the creation of a consular service through the Swiss, who represent US interests in Tehran,” the report said on Sunday.

“Iran, this US official said, hopes the consular service can be used to facilitate negotiations over prisoner swaps,” it added.

The remarks come against the backdrop of increased tensions between Iran and the US with Washington imposing new sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

The US has ratcheted up pressure on Iran since last year after withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Since then, the administration of US President Donald Trump is trying to reduce Iran’s oil exports to “zero,” and has sent an aircraft carrier strike group, a bomber squad, an amphibious assault ship, and a Patriot missile battery to the Middle East to try to stack up pressure on Tehran.

Iranian officials, however, have dismissed such moves as psychological warfare, saying the country has its own ways of circumventing the American bans and selling crude oil.

Besides the security developments in Syria that have always made headlines and the Zionist’s attacks on Syria, these days Damascus has become a hangout place for states that have not achieved much in the past few years of war against Syria.

As President Donald Trump announced the U.S. withdrawal from Syria and Turkey affirmed a plan to operate in eastern Euphrates, Israel begun targeting passenger places from Lebanon’s airspace in Syria, although with not much achievement.

Another development in Syria is the United Arab Emirates has recently announced reopening embassy in Damascus.

In addition, for the first time, after 8 years, a Syrian passenger plane, flying 150 passengers for the New Year holiday, landed in Monastir Habib Bourguiba International Airport in Tunisia. The aircraft belonged to the Cham Wings Airlines Company, a private Syrian airline.

At the airport many Tunisians came to welcome the Syrian tourists, among who were representatives of civil society, human rights defenders and journalists.

Talah Hassan, president of the Syrian community association of Tunisia, had announced that the travelers would spend a week in Tunisia to visit various Tunisian cities.

Although former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki cut ties with Syria in 2012, the incumbent president Beji Caid Essebsi restart relations with Damascus.

There have been also talks on Syria to join the Arab League once again.

The 30th Arab League Summit is scheduled in March 2018 in Tunisia where Tunisian leaders will try to bring Bashar al-Assad to the table again.

However, the UAE reopening embassy in Syria is happening when the Arab states did all in power to help topple al-Assad’s government.

Abdel Bari Atwan, the famous analyst of the Arab world, wrote: “A long line of countries is expected to form to resume relations with Damascus, and of course this time the ties will be stronger than before.”

On the issue of the Syrian tourists in Tunisia, Atwan said, “The political tourism to a country comes at the time when, a while ago more than 5,000 Tunisian Salafis were dispatched to Syria in the form of extremist groups, supported by the U.S. and some Persian Gulf Arab states, to topple the Syrian government.”

Atwan expected more states to resume relations with Damascus with the coming New Year and more Arab leaders land in Damascus airport to begin amicable relations with al-Assad, as Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir did the same.

When Arab leaders give up

Atwan believes most Arab leaders have come to accept al-Assad as the head Syrian government, particularly with U.S. pulling out Syria, the path for Assad has been paved further.

Some Persian Gulf Arab states like Oman never closed down embassy in Damascus. Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi traveled to Damascus a few months back. Bahrain is seeking to reopen embassy in Damascus soon as Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifeh warmly received his Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem in September.

Atwan also suspected that once Abu Dhabi opens embassy in Syria, the UAE may represent the interests of Riyadh in Syria as it holds close relationship with the House of Saud. Dismissal of Adel al-Jubeir as a foreign minister, who kept pushing for removal of al-Assa, may have to do with the reopening of the UAE embassy in Damascus.

In any case, Damascus will be witnessing quite bit of developments in months to come including high level officials’ trips which would mean victory for Syria after seven years of fighting terrorism at home.
