TEHRAN (Iran News) Israeli officials however have not made any comments yet, Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen TV Network reported late on Saturday.

There were no further details about the reported cyberattack.

This is the third such assault against Israeli banking services in less than two months.

On November 10, credit cards readers crashed in the occupied Palestine, less than two weeks after a similar attack.

Since the start of Al Aqsa Storm Operation against the Israeli regime in early October last year, the regime has faced numerous cyberattacks.

Aviram Atzaba, the Executive Director for International Strategic Affairs in the Israel National Cyber Directorate had previously said that Tel Aviv had been faced with 800 major cyberattacks since the outset of the war in Gaza.

The Israeli official described those attacks as silent war against the occupying regime.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Judiciary Spokesman said that Iran has always been one of the biggest victims of various forms of terrorism, including various types of cyber-attacks.

Speaking at a weekly presser held on Tuesday, Judiciary Spokesman Massoud Setayeshi touched upon U.S. terrorist activities aimed at imposing sanctions on the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and stressed: “During the past years, Iran has always been one of the biggest victims of various forms of terrorism, including various types of cyber-attacks.”

“These attacks were designed and carried out by the US administration and the Zionist regime, and in these attacks, Iran’s important infrastructure was damaged, which could have claimed people’s lives and destruction of properties, but it was neutralized by the measures of Iranian experts, He added.”

Setayeshi further stated: “The Americans are brazenly trying to apply a new pressure against Iran with a label that has always been abused by them, which is definitely doomed to failure and disgraceful for them.”

Albania cut diplomatic ties with Tehran after accused Iran of hacking government digital services and websites.

Iran has rejected the accusation that it was behind the attack as “baseless,” calling Albania’s decision to sever diplomatic ties “an ill-considered and short-sighted action.”

The two countries have been bitter foes since the Balkan state began hosting members of the terrorist “Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK)” on its soil over Washington’s request.

He added that this action had been born in line with protecting Iran’s national interests. Based on this, the document on ownership of the Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Bu Musa Island was issued under the name of the Islamic Republic of Iran government.

Iran reiterated its sovereignty over the three islands of Bu Musa, the Greater Tunb, and the Lesser Tunb in the Persian Gulf.

The islands of the Greater Tunb, the Lesser Tunb, and Bu Musa have historically been part of Iran, proof of which can be found and corroborated by countless historical, legal, and geographical documents in Iran and other parts of the world.

The Spokesman said that the assassins of Martyr Sayad Khodayi had been arrested, and legal order had been issued for them.

IRGC’s Colonel Sayyad Khodaei, a Military advisor for the Syrian Army and one of the Holy Shrine Defenders, was assassinated in an armed attack by two motorcyclists on Mojahedin-e-Eslam Street in Tehran in May.

The Spokesman, referring to the U.S. and the West’s procrastination toward the Vienna talks aimed at removing anti-Iran sanctions, called the move a U.S. artificial respiration to terrorist groups.

He further emphasized: “We expect the political institutions to stand up and deal decisively with appropriate and international legal provisions and measures.”

He also said that efforts are ongoing to release the Iranian Hajji, who was detained innocently by the Saudi government.

Saudis arrested Khalil Dardmand because he took a selfie photo next to Kaaba while holding a picture of Martyr Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The head of Iran’s Passive Defense Organization considers the United States and the Israeli regime to have been behind the cyberattack that caused a temporary outage at gas stations in large cities across the Islamic Republic.

“From our point of view, this attack has definitely been carried out by the Americans and the Zionists,” Brigadier General Gholam-Reza Jalali said in a televised interview.

The attack targeted “the middleware” in the fuel delivery systems, he said, describing the type of attack as very complicated and difficult to fend off.

“If the attack had taken place in the hardware layer, there would have been a need for infiltration,” meaning either the company that has manufactured the software would have been responsible or a disrupting piece of equipment would have to be installed to make the attack possible, the official noted.

The brief outage was caused on Tuesday. Local news agencies reported at the time that long queues that had been formed in front of gas stations in large Iranian cities had cleared up after Oil Ministry authorities dispatched teams to the forecourts to enable offline fuel delivery.

Three hours following the attack, 30 percent of the gas stationed resumed their offline services, while 12 hours after the attack, 60 percent returned to the normal status, Jalali said.

“Continued operation of the [country’s] infrastructures is the Passive Defense Organization’s redline because it affects the people’s lives,” he noted, adding, “Serious infrastructural cyber warfare has started. We should take it seriously and rectify our areas of weakness.”

He expounded on the missions of the Passive Defense Organization, saying one of the last measures adopted by the organization is to study the recent cyberattack on the country’s gas stations as well as moves to ensure the security of the nation’s cyber-infrastructure.

The top general said the hacking attack on the pumps took place at the middleware level, “which is a very complicated attack and difficult to counter.”

“The cyberattack on billboards was also connected to the attack on the fuel distribution system,” he noted.

He said elements inside the country may have been involved in the cyberattacks, adding security authorities are probing the issue.

Last year, as many as 1,400 drills were held to reinforce the country’s cyber defense prowess, he noted, adding that so far this year 66 such maneuvers have gone underway.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Telecommunications Ministry said Sunday it repelled a major cyber attack on Saturday that partially shut down the country’s internet services for an hour.

Deputy Minister Hamid Fattahi tweeted that “mercenary hackers” launched “the most extensive attack experienced in Iran history” against the country’s internet infrastructure

Fattahi said the intruders hit “millions of targets” in order to disrupt Iran’s internet network.

“The strike has been repulsed and [hackers] are going to the wall,” he said.

A Telecommunications Ministry official said Saturday that the distributed denial-of-service attack “disrupted the internet services of some mobile and fixed operators for an hour” at 11:44 (0814 GMT).

A DDoS attack involves overwhelming a target’s servers by making a massive number of junk requests.

DDoS attackers normally use hijacked or virus-infected computers to target websites. During such attacks, websites become unreachable after an unusually large number of requests for information are sent to them, causing the servers that host them to fail.

Twitter sources close to the communications ministry said the spoofed IP addresses from which the “highly distributed attacks” had been launched were from East Asia and North America.

“Connections have returned to normal following the intervention of Dejfa shield,” Sajad Bonabi said, referring to Iran’s digital fortress against cyberattacks.

He did not elaborate on the source of the attack.

Bonabi is a board member at the ministry’s Telecommunications Infrastructure Company, the sole provider of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.

Internet monitor NetBlocks confirmed Saturday’s outage and said it was “consistent with a targeted disruption and no technical faults are evident at the present time”.

Iran said in December it had thwarted a “highly organized cyberattack” targeting its e-government infrastructure.

Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi described the attack as “really massive” and “state-sponsored”.

In late September, the country’s energy sector was put “on full alert” to the threat of “physical and cyber” attacks a few days after Iran denied media reports its oil installations had been disrupted by a cyberattack.

DDoS attacks also in September targeted Iranian websites that were involved in cryptocurrency trade. Authorities said those attacks were 20 times more powerful than similar attacks in other countries.

AFP and Press TV contributed to this story.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s ICT minister announced on Sunday that the country has defused a second cyberattack in less than a week, this time “aimed at spying on government intelligence.”

Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said in a short Twitter post that the attack was “identified and defused by a cybersecurity shield,” and that the “spying servers were identified and the hackers were also tracked,” AP wrote.

Last Wednesday, Azari Jahromi said a “massive” and “governmental” cyberattack also targeted Iran’s electronic infrastructure. He provided no specifics on the attack except to say it was also defused and that a report would be released.

On Tuesday, the minister dismissed reports of hacking operations targeting Iranian banks, including local media reports that accounts of millions of customers of Iranian banks were hacked.

This is not the first time Iran says it has defused a cyberattack, though it has disconnected much of its infrastructure from the Internet after the Stuxnet computer virus, widely believed to be a joint US-Israeli creation, attacked thousands of Iranian centrifuges in the country’s nuclear sites in the late 2000s.

In June, American officials claimed that US military cyber forces launched a strike against Iranian military computer systems as President Donald Trump backed away from plans for a more conventional military strike in response to Iran’s downing of a US spy drone in the strategic Persian Gulf.

Tensions have escalated between the US and Iran ever since Trump withdrew America last year from the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran and began a policy of “maximum pressure.” Iran has since been hit by multiple rounds of sanctions.

Major Cyberattack Against E-Gov’t Infrastructure Repelled

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

TEHRAN – ICT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said yesterday that a major cyberattack against the infrastructures of Iran’s e-government has been successfully repelled.

He broke the news while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

“Recently, a highly organized and state-sponsored cyberattack was carried out against our e-government infrastructures, which was successfully identified and repelled by the country’s cyber security shield,” the ICT minister told reporters.

“The attack was really massive,” he said, adding “I can’t disclose any details right now, but all aspects of the attack have been already discussed and there will be certainly a report on it later.”

“I can’t say the attack was carried out by which country right now,” he said.

Elsewhere, when asked about the possibility of another nationwide internet shutdown with the establishment of ‘national internet’, he said “National internet makes no sense. Internet is a global network, it’s not internal or external. The National Information Network is a different story from a national internet.’

“The National Information Network is being followed up by the ICT ministry in earnest, in accordance with the Leader’s directives, so that we can secure our share in the world,” he added.

“The aim of the National Information Network is to boost the country’s economic growth in the digital economy sector. What is being said about an internet shutdown is a sheer lie,” the minister stressed.

He also said that in order to have a great smart city, we should invest in it.

“Citizens are, of course, an important factor. The development of communication services and the development of cyberspace could raise people’s awareness,” he added.

The Minister noted, “Today, the smart people of Iran are looking forward to receiving smart services via the internet and cyberspace, and now we need to invest in this area as well.”

“The issue of paying attention to citizens and increasing their knowledge is one of the serious issues that is being pursued,” Azari Jahromi added.

Meanwhile yesterday American newspaper New York Times claimed that following recent unrests iin Iran, the details of 15 million Iranian debit cards were published online, exposing the account information of almost one-fifth of Iran’s population.

“This is the largest financial scam in Iran’s history,” conservative Iranian outlet Aftab News reported. “Millions of Iranians are worried to find their names among the list of hacked accounts.”

Iranian information and telecommunications minister Mohammad Jahromi denied the breach was the result of a hack. However, cyber experts told the New York Times the attack was likely carried out by a

The attack revealed a “high technological capability, which is usually at the hand of state intelligence services,” said Boaz Dolev, chief executive officer of cybersecurity company ClearSky.
