The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in a recent meeting decided to continue the suspension of counter-measures against Iran, noting the country’s progress of legislative, anti-money laundering efforts.

The Sun. meeting of the Expediency Council was dedicated to addressing the ratification of two controversial FATF-related treaties, namely the convention against the funding of terrorism (CFT) and the UN Palermo Convention on Transnational Organized Crime.

US Secretary of States Mike Pompeo has called on Iran to ratify the two controversial FATF-related treaties “without delay” and “without reservation.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Mon. that the Expediency Council’s final verdict on accession to the two FATF-related conventions will be surely based on the country’s national interests.

The Expediency Council’s Saturday meeting on joining the UN Convention on Transnational Crime (Palermo bill) ended without conclusion, leaving the fate of the bill unknown till the next Iranian year (starting in March 21), a member of the council said.
