TEHRAN (Iran News) –Head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) has said his organization has prepared a 10-year roadmap for the development of the country’s aviation industry, IRNA reported.

Speaking in a meeting with representatives of some knowledge-based companies on the occasion of Government Week, Mohammad Mohammadi-Bakhsh said the mentioned roadmap includes two major axes one of which is regarding the manufacturing of airplanes by knowledge-based companies and the other is the supply of parts and equipment needed in this industry.

Mentioning the problems that the U.S. sanctions have created for the Iranian aviation industry, the official said: “We have no choice but to build our own airplanes.”

“According to the decision of the Supreme Council of Aviation, there is no limit for the entry of knowledge-based companies and startups into the country’s aviation sector,” Mohammadi-Bakhsh noted.

Stressing the importance of training and education in the aviation industry, the official stated that in the 10-year roadmap special attention has been paid to cooperation with universities and research institutions for holding training courses and keeping the people active in this industry up-to-date.

The CAO head further said that three separate three-year executive programs have also been prepared and defined for the development of the country’s aviation industry, noting: “We will not wait for the sanctions to be lifted.”

According to Mohammadi-Bakhsh, the number of the country’s passenger airplanes will increase to 550 within the next 10 years, based on the mentioned comprehensive program.

“Under the framework of this program, fleet expansion up to 550 airplanes, repairing airplane parts and indigenizing the knowledge for the construction of aircraft inside the country are set on the agenda,” he said.

“Following President Raisi’s orders, we have focused all our efforts on a few areas, including buying airplanes, manufacturing airplanes, and repairing grounded airplanes. We need 550 airplanes to meet the country’s air transportation demands,” Mohammadi-Bakhsh noted.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian Civil Aviation Authority (CAO) issued on Thursday a certificate for Iraq’s flag carrier to conduct restricted flights from Iran to evacuate nationals amid a renewed surge in the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

The permit comes days after Iranian authorities said they had revoked flight certificates for Iraqi Airways after the company violated the rules and carried visa-holding passengers from Iran, Press TV reported.

It also comes amid an outright ban imposed on any flights by Iranian airlines to Iraq as the government has been seeking to stop the flow of Iranian pilgrims into the Arab country to mark a special religious occasion.

The CAO reiterated that the Iraqi Airways would only be allowed to evacuate nationals from Iran and flights would not accommodate Iranian passengers.

Millions of Iranians normally go to Iraq each year in days leading to and after Arbaeen which marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson Imam Hussein (AS).

However, a renewed surge in the number of positive coronavirus cases in Iran has prompted the government to tighten restrictions on travel and movement.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian technicians have acquired the know-how and capability to repair and overhaul heavy aircraft, said the head of the Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) of Iran.

“Today, the repair and maintenance operations of different aircraft, from light to heavy, are carried out by the specialists and experts of the [domestic] aviation industry,” Touraj Dehqani-Zanganeh added, Fars News Agency reported.

He noted that several new technology-based firms in the country produce the most complicated parts needed by the domestic aviation industry.

In February, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami announced that the country has implemented important measures in the aviation sector that prove its self-confidence in the face of the US sanctions.

“The overhauled jets are among F-4, F-14, F-27, Sukhoi and Mirage models, as well as C-130 and 707 civil aircraft,” Brigadier General Hatami said in a ceremony where eight domestically-overhauled military aircraft were delivered to the Iranian Army on February 20.

The defense minister also noted that the tech-savvy countries have refused to provide Iran’s Air Force with even the smallest spare parts and services it needs, in fear of the threats uttered by the US and its allies, Washington’s tough unilateral sanctions on Tehran and an ongoing all-out economic war against the Islamic Republic over the past 40 years.

He, however, said Iran has employed important measures in the aviation field that prove its self-confidence in neutralizing the sanctions.

Hatami stressed that the “complicated” process of overhauling military jets is monopolized by some powerful countries.

He appreciated the Iranian government’s support for boosting Iran’s defense power and thanked managers, experts, and scientists working in the domestic aviation industry.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) on Friday gave assurances to airlines about the safety of the country’s airspace a day after the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued a warning to passenger planes overflying above the country.

“Negotiations have been held with the EASA and some European countries to alleviate [their] concerns and reassure [them about] the Iranian airspace,” CAO Deputy for Aviation and International Affairs, Morteza Dehqan, said on Friday.

In its alert on Thursday, the EASA said there is “a risk of misidentification of civil aircraft” in Iran “due to the presence of various advanced air-defense systems.”

The EASA advised airlines to be “cautious”, saying “the risk to operations is assessed to be HIGH for flight levels below 250,” or 25,000 feet (7,600 meters).

It said the recommendation was valid until Jan. 16, 2021.

However, Dehqan said the EASA’s new NOTAM is an extension of its previous notice for Iran and has not been changed in the text.

On January 8, Iran mistakenly shot down Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 shortly after take-off from Tehran’s main airport, killing all 176 aboard.

In a report last week, the CAO said that the misalignment of an air defense unit’s radar system was the key “human error” that led to the accidental downing of the Ukrainian passenger plane.

This error “initiated a hazard chain” that saw further errors committed in the minutes before the plane was shot down, said the CAO.

The incident took place at a time of heightened US-Iranian tensions.

Tehran’s air defenses had been on high alert at the time the jet was downed in case the US retaliated against Iranian missile strikes hours earlier on American military bases stationed in Iraq.

Those strikes were carried out in response to the assassination of a top Iranian Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, in a US drone strike near Baghdad airport.

AFP contributed to this story.
