TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Islamic Republic of Iran and China on Friday officially began a new era of bilateral cooperation which can enrage the West and especially the Americans and these two countries can cooperate in different fields.

On Friday Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said a 25-year strategic partnership deal with China signed in March last year has come into effect as part of the outcome of a key visit to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

“We agreed to announce today as the date to begin implementing the comprehensive agreement on strategic partnership” between Iran and China, Amir-Abdollahian said, after concluding detailed discussions on Sino-Iranian cooperation with the Chinese foreign minister in China on Friday.

Iran as a regional power and China as the one of the big world powers signed the landmark 25-year comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in March last year in defiance of the U.S.’s unilateral sanctions to strengthen long-standing economic and political alliance.

The deal officially documents the Sino-Iranian Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that had been announced during a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to boost economic cooperation between the two countries for the next 25 years, and paves the way for Iran’s participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, a massive infrastructure project stretching from East Asia to Europe.

During the Friday meeting with China’s foreign minister, Amir-Abdollahian pointed to the significance of the 25-year partnership agreement signed between Tehran and Beijing and emphasized that the implementation of the document would be an important event and a fundamental change in relations.

Tehran says the huge imports of China’s coronavirus vaccine is thanks to the strategic partnership deal signed between the two sides in March.

The top Iranian diplomat outlined the latest state of bilateral cooperation in various fields and said Tehran is resolved to implement all infrastructure agreements with Beijing.

The Chinese foreign minister also said Beijing completely supports Iran’s wise stance toward the bullying policies of the United States and also its position on the ongoing talks with the five remaining signatories to the 2015 nuclear agreement, urging Washington to make up for the past mistake in withdrawing from the deal.

Wang said China is ready to improve bilateral cooperation in monetary, energy, banking and cultural fields despite unlawful sanctions against Tehran.

In a Chinese post on his Twitter account, Amir-Abdollahian said that at the beginning of 2022, he was delighted to embark on his first visit to China since taking office. He added that he met with his Chinese counterpart in the “beautiful” city of Wuxi in southern Jiangsu province and exchanged views on a wide range of issues such as the comprehensive cooperation plan and the Vienna negotiations, and reached important consensus.

China is gradually becoming the world big economy by replacing the U.S. and the country is gradually showing its role in many major global economic and political developments. Of course, this cooperation between Iran has disappointed the West which has been trying to dominate countries in the world and especially in the Middle East as they are watching more cooperation of the Chinese with the Middle East states.

Beijing is trying to expand its famous Silk Road that many countries like Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan can benefit it for boosting their economic activities. Now Tehran wants to take advantage of this cooperation by cooperating with China which has supported it during the sanctions era and has been a reliable partner during the sanctions era.

Tehran has always proved the world it can be a reliable friend for all provided that the other parties show sincerity and honesty and China at least during the sanctions era has shown that it can be a reliable partner for Tehran and they can expand their cooperation in all fields and not to restrict it only to oil sales and economic issues.

The Chinese during the pandemic era have sent COVID vaccines to Iran although it started late but Iran’s former pro-West should be blamed for this delay because it only dreamed of cooperating with the West which has never shown sincerity towards the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Now since Friday, the biggest event in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran has begun and it is expected to be used for flourishing the current economic condition and other developmental projects in the country as China is actually biggest economic power in the world and it can have its influence in the development and economy and progresses of the countries.

Tehran-Beijing Relations , Strategic and Comprehensive

IRAN NEWS POLITICAL DESK

TEHRAN – Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi said on Monday that Iran and China have always had common historical ties as well as good relations in various political and economic dimensions in East Asia.

Responding to Iran Press’ question at his weekly press conference, Mousavi highlighted, “During a trip by the Chinese President to Iran in 2015, the two sides agreed to take a strategic view as well as a road map into consideration. Afterward, Iran and China drafted an agreement several times. Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif delivered the suggestions by the Iranian side to the Chinese during a trip he had to the country. Consequently, the draft agreement was finalized by Iran, and should be delivered to the Chinese side to be finalized.”

The spokesman stressed, “The strategic agreement between Iran and China is unbelievable and at the same time unacceptable for different parties. They believe that the Islamic Republic of Iran, through this act, is making the cruel sanctions imposed against the Asian country ineffective which they are right in this case.”

Mousavi went on to say, “Iran is ready to define its long-term relations with other countries that have long-standing ties with it. The same procedures have been taken for some countries. Foreign roots have been the causes of the attacks. The Iranian nation is vigilant, and will not be the victim of a smear campaign that has been conducted by the rivals.”

Iran is considered as an important country in West Asia and China is considered as an important one in East Asia and relations between two countries has always been peaceful, the spokesman said.

He further said that Tehran does not accept the Europeans’ middle-course stance between the US and Iran.

“The Europeans’ stance is “not constructive”, Abbas Mousavi said, adding that Iran clearly announces that Europeans have some commitments they should be loyal to, but they are defeated by the US pressures that is by no means good for their international reputation.

Answering a question about why the details of the draft agreement between China and Iran are not revealed, Mousavi said the accord is still being negotiated. It is a roadmap that should be carefully-wrought. And those trying to sabotage it know “our sensitivity”.

He said that when finalized, the document will be published and that the hype is for distancing Beijing and Tehran from each other.

Regarding the fire in a U.S. warship in San Diego, he said the issue does not concern to Iran, but it is interesting how soon the US warships catch fire. “May be the American cheetah are responsible for.”

Calling on Azerbaijan and Armenia to exercise self-restraint and resolve their dispute over Karabakh through political ways, Mousavi expressed sorrow over the incident in which Azeri forces were killed.

Iran has repeatedly expressed readiness for helping the two neighboring countries to solve the issue peacefully, he said.

He said that the current Iranian year was named surge in production, which means when the Iranian markets are glutted, the country will need new markets for exports.

Iran has been talking with the neighboring countries about customs tariffs and use of national currencies for trade, he said.

Regarding the issue of fire that happened in Natanz nuclear facility, Mousavi said that the incident has no effects on Iran’s nuclear activities and that the job in Natanz in being done and the place is being reconstructed.

With regards to the 7-billion-dollar debt of South Korea to Iran, he said that the talks are in progress at the level of foreign ministries and central banks of the countries, adding that Iran has already told the Koreans that their pretext not to pay the debt of the Iranian people is by no means acceptable.

Mousavi said that Iran is not under UN sanctions; a rebel and bully country has sanctioned Iran, and South Korea as independent country has no duty to follow the sanctions.

Hoping that South Korea will pay its debts, he said the pretext of Seoul is accepted in no court.

Iran Dismisses Rumors About Transfer of Kish Island to China

IRAN NEWS POLITICAL DESK

TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson quashed rumors about a comprehensive cooperation plan between Tehran and Beijing, saying the old trick of using false information to get details of the agreement will get nowhere.

In a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Seyed Abbas Mousavi said “Iran-China comprehensive cooperation plan” is a clear roadmap that sets the stage for relations between the two major countries in future, “when China, as the world’s top economic power in the near future, and Iran, as the great power in the West Asia region, can fulfill the common interests and stand against the pressure of bullies with complementary relations that are independent of the traditional and hegemonic Western powers.”

The spokesman underlined that the cooperation agreement between the two countries neither entails any Chinese control over the Iranian islands, nor any presence of military forces, nor the “other illusions.”

“The old trick of falsification and release of wrong information in order to get the right details and information, which is seriously pursued by the enemies of interests of the two nations, will go nowhere,” Mousavi added.

“There is no news of the transfer of Iranian islands, now the presence of the military or other illusions,” former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called these rumors an old “trick.”

There are many small islands off the coast of Iran, some of which are strategic and important for navigation of the Persian Gulf. Iran also has a free trade zone on Kish island, and Iran has a deal with India about its Chabahar port, where there is also a free trade industrial area.

Meanwhile the secretariat of Free Zones High Council in a statement refuted allegations that some parts of southern shores and Kish Island have been transferred to China.

The statement accused aliens and foreign media of spreading such fake news to ruin the relation between both states.

Meanwhile Head of Presidential Office Mahmoud Vaezi described Iran-China document as a usual agreement between the two countries, saying foreign media started sabotaging relations between Tehran and Beijing.

Elaborating on Iran-China 25-year-old agreement, Vaezi said it is a usual document signed aiming to strengthen relations.

The government has always been committed to approving whatever is necessary and also whatever is related to parliament, he said, adding that there is no secret.

Referring to confusion caused by social media for people, he said the propaganda is supported from outside the country.

Iranian constitution and regulatory bodies will spare no efforts for clarifying the issues, he noted.

Commenting on the upcoming meeting between heads of three branches of power, Vaezi said the goal has always been outside the country to create a rift between people and officials.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian Government spokesman Ali Rabiee said some of these suspicions are a real question of public opinion and respectable.

“We do not have a secret issue with the people that need to be answered, and it is the suspicions that have been formed in the minds of the elites and the people,” he added.

Rabiee said that the idea of a cooperation agreement with China has been gradually announced since its inception, adding, “We announced to the public when the Chinese government responded to the Iranian draft, and even when it said it was ready to negotiate.”

The government spokesman noted that the final talks are underway to reach an agreement with China, adding that the final agreement will be announced at any time.

A total of 335 people have been infected since a cluster emerged at the city’s massive Xinfadi wholesale market in early June.

Beijing health commission said on Tuesday it detected only one asymptomatic case the previous day, which China does not include in its confirmed coronavirus cases counts, AFP reported.

While Chinese authorities are still investigating the cause of the latest outbreak, the virus was detected on chopping boards used to handle imported salmon at Xinfadi market, prompting a ban on certain imports and increased scrutiny of foreign food suppliers.

The Beijing government has tested more than 11 million people for COVID-19 since June 11 — roughly half the city’s population, officials said at a press conference Monday.

Residents lined up in the summer heat at testing venues across the city in June, with hundreds of thousands of samples collected each day.

Localized lockdowns across the city have been eased in recent days, with people living in areas of the city considered “low risk” now allowed to travel freely again.

Beijing’s outbreak is “stabilizing and improving,” Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the city’s center for disease control, told reporters Monday.

China had largely brought the deadly outbreak under control before the new Beijing cluster was detected last month.

The government has since also imposed a strict lockdown on nearly half a million people in neighboring Hebei province to contain a fresh cluster there, adopting the same strict measures imposed at the height of the pandemic in the epicenter of Wuhan city earlier this year.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – China imposed a strict lockdown on nearly half a million people near Beijing to contain a fresh coronavirus outbreak on Sunday, as authorities warned it was soon to “relax” over the new cluster of cases.

After China largely brought the virus under control, hundreds have been infected in Beijing and cases have emerged in neighboring Hebei province.

Health officials said Sunday that Anxin County — about 150 kilometers from Beijing — will be “fully enclosed and controlled”, the same strict measures imposed at the height of the pandemic in the city of Wuhan earlier this year.

Now, only one person from each family will be allowed to go out once a day to purchase necessities such as food and medicine, the county’s epidemic prevention task force said in a statement, AFP reported.

Earlier the county had been subject to some travel restrictions, but now individuals are only allowed to leave their homes to seek medical treatment, the notice said.

The move comes after another 14 cases of the virus were reported in the past 24 hours in Beijing, taking the total to 311 since mid-June.

The outbreak was first detected in Beijing’s sprawling Xinfadi wholesale food market, which supplies much of the city’s fresh produce and sparked concerns over the safety of the food supply chain.

Businesses in Anxin County had supplied freshwater fish to the market, state news agency Xinhua reported.

Some 12 cases of the novel coronavirus were found in the area, including 11 linked to the Xinfadi market, the state-run Global Times reported.

The new cases in Beijing have prompted fears of a resurgence of the virus in China.

The capital has mass-tested wholesale market workers, restaurant workers, residents of medium and high-risk neighborhoods, and delivery couriers over the past week.

Testing has now expanded to include all employees of the city’s beauty parlors and hair salons, the Global Times said.

Beijing city official Xu Hejian told reporters Saturday: “There is no room for us to relax.”

City officials have urged people not to leave the city, closed schools again, and locked down dozens of residential compounds to stamp out the virus.

But Wu Zunyou, chief epidemiology expert at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told reporters last week the new outbreak had been “brought under control”, and officials lifted a weeks-long lockdown imposed on seven communities in Beijing Friday.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A fresh coronavirus outbreak in Beijing has hampered the Chinese capital’s hesitant return to normality, rekindling fears for the economy as some businesses grind to a halt and consumers stay away.

City authorities have locked down entire residential areas, imposed a partial travel ban, and advised companies to let employees work from home after a cluster of fresh coronavirus cases emerged last week at a wholesale food market in Beijing.

After struggling through months of closures during the epidemic, many businesses in the service industry have once again been forced to close their doors or reintroduce restrictions.

An outlet of gym chain Break Fitness, in the hard-hit Fengtai district, temporarily shut on Friday after reopening for around a month, with staff undergoing COVID-19 tests.

Store manager Xiao Tianwei said the firm like many others nearby was awaiting instructions on reopening.

“It can’t be helped,” he said.

Some workers have been hit especially hard. Zhang Tong, a personal trainer at another gym, Sculpture Fitness, went largely without income for almost six months.

“Even after we resumed business, I went back for only a couple of days. There aren’t many people,” he said. “Without classes, you don’t receive any salary… The impact is very big.”

Restrictions are spreading beyond the worst-hit districts, with bars in Beijing’s popular Sanlitun area receiving a notice on Tuesday night telling them to “halt operations… with reopening to be determined based on the epidemic situation”.

The notice, seen by AFP, said authorities would carry out “continuous inspection” of closed bars and deal with violators accordingly.

Staff at clothes shops said Wednesday that footfall had dropped by more than half, with one employee at a handbag store saying she had not had a single customer for two days.

A restaurant manager said his earnings had fallen by around half on Sunday, adding that he expected the pause on bar operations to hit business further.

Workers at a shuttered bar were seen wrapping the wire around its outdoor seats on Wednesday to prevent people from sitting down.

Preston Thomas, co-owner of the restaurant The View 3912, previously had to close his restaurant for two months and said he was “still recovering”.

“We have 40 staff and we have rent to pay,” he said. “We are worried but we are going to try to stay open for as long as we can.”

Bai Xue, who works at restaurant Pinzhi Yili, said the number of customers had dropped to a third of previous levels since the recent outbreak.

“The situation is serious and people don’t want to come out,” she added.

The eatery had also stopped selling seafood and put up a notice online telling customers it had not recently sourced food from Xinfadi, the market where the new cluster emerged.

The source of the new outbreak, which has infected more than 150 people, has not been determined but the discovery of the virus on salmon chopping boards has raised concerns about the product’s safety.

Wang Kai, the owner of bar Nina, said he expected few customers this week and stricter checks on imported goods.

With the massive Xinfadi market closed, authorities and retail platforms are scrambling to ensure food supplies to Beijing.

E-commerce giant JD.com said it had stepped up direct procurement for food such as meat and vegetables for its online business, with the current volume “three times that of the daily average”.

Officials in Hebei province, which surrounds the capital, also asked major vegetable-growing counties to prioritize supplies to Beijing, reported the official Xinhua news agency.

As physical shops tighten controls and customers stay away, more people have gone online. Hua Chunguang, deputy store operations manager of a 7Fresh supermarket, said its web orders had risen by more than 20 percent since last week.

Delivery platform Meituan said grocery orders it handles for supermarkets in Beijing had more than tripled since last Saturday compared with a week earlier.

But sellers noted the rush to online shopping was less drastic this time than during the initial outbreak.

Yang Guifang, who runs an outlet of fresh produce store Linlizhijia, said it was limiting the number of in-store customers to ensure the distance between patrons.

Another fresh food vendor, who declined to be named, said fewer people had been out shopping and meat sales had fallen as customers grow wary.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The coronavirus situation in China’s capital is “extremely severe”, a city official warned Tuesday, as 27 new infections were reported from Beijing where a new cluster has sparked a huge trace-and-test program.

The COVID-19 resurgence — believed to have started at the sprawling Xinfadi wholesale food market in the capital — has sparked alarm as China had largely brought its outbreak under control through mass testing and lockdowns imposed earlier in the year.

The new cases took the number of confirmed infections in Beijing over the past five days to 106, as authorities locked down almost 30 communities in the city and tested tens of thousands of people.

“The epidemic situation in the capital is extremely severe,” Beijing city spokesman Xu Hejian warned at a press conference, AFP reported.

The World Health Organization had already expressed concern about the cluster, pointing to Beijing’s size and connectivity.

Officials in the capital have said they will test stall owners and managers at all of the city’s food markets, restaurants and government canteens.

Beijing’s coronavirus testing capacity has been expanded to 90,000 a day, according to China’s official news agency Xinhua.

On Tuesday, the capital’s transport commission banned taxi- and ride-hailing services from driving out of the city in another move to try and contain the new outbreak.

All indoor sports and entertainment venues in Beijing were ordered to shut on Monday, and some other cities across China warned they would quarantine those arriving from the capital.

The National Health Commission also reported four new domestic infections in Hebei province, which surrounds Beijing, and a case reported in southwestern Sichuan province was linked to the Beijing cluster.

Authorities were also racing to track people from Beijing who had traveled to other parts of China, and those who visited the capital have been encouraged to get tested.

Beijing spokesman Xu said: “High-risk people who have left Beijing must inform local authorities immediately.”

Authorities shut down another market on Tuesday — Tiantaohonglian in the central Xicheng district — after one employee there was diagnosed with COVID-19, state broadcaster CCTV reported.

Seven residential estates surrounding that market were also locked down.

In total, Beijing officials said Tuesday they have disinfected 276 agricultural markets, closed 11 markets, and disinfected more than 33,000 food and beverage businesses in a bid to stamp out the new cluster.

Officials had warned Sunday that since May 30, 200,000 people had visited the Xinfadi market — the original site of the new outbreak.

More than 8,000 workers from Xinfadi have been tested and sent to centralized quarantine facilities.

Until this recent outbreak, most of China’s cases in recent months were nationals returning home as the pandemic spread to other countries.

China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday that the virus strain found in the Beijing outbreak was a “major epidemic strain in the European countries”.

While the virus was detected on chopping boards used to handle imported salmon at Xinfadi, “it does not clearly or definitely indicate it’s from imported seafood”, Wu Zunyou, the body’s chief epidemiologist, said in an interview with state broadcaster CCTV.

“Ever since new cases suddenly emerged in Beijing, we have tried to figure out the reasons for the outbreak since there were no COVID-19 cases found over the past two months,” Wu Zunyou said.

“We came up with several possibilities, and the most likely one is that the carrier of the novel coronavirus comes from outside China or other parts of China and brought it here.”

On Tuesday, another eight imported cases were reported.
