Iran, Armenia Chambers of Commerce Establish Direct Communication Mechanism

TEHRAN (Iran News) The mechanism is designed to enable timely and comprehensive exchange of economic and trade information between the business communities of the two neighboring countries.

Bahraman emphasized that Armenia can be a close partner for Iran, pointing to the shared history and mutual understanding between the nations. He said proposals made by Armenian officials reflect a strong willingness to enhance economic cooperation.

“We see a bright future, and that is why we are investing,” Bahraman noted, adding that Iran has a wide range of products that can be exported to Armenia. He acknowledged that some Iranian producers have not always honored commitments in the past but stressed that closer cooperation between the chambers could help address such challenges.

The Iranian vice president welcomed proposals for greater collaboration and expressed readiness to pursue large-scale joint projects with Armenian partners, including accessing wider regional markets. He described Iran as a wealthy nation with favorable geographic conditions that can serve as an attractive destination for investment.

“Trust is the foundation of trade and economic cooperation,” Bahraman said, inviting the Armenian delegation to visit different Iranian cities to gain first-hand insight into the country’s industrial and production capacities.

Ivanov, in turn, highlighted the importance of strengthening ties, stressing that permanent trade exhibitions could significantly boost bilateral business relations. He noted that despite cultural closeness and mutual trust, the two chambers currently lack sufficient access to each other’s economic data. Establishing a continuous channel of communication, he said, would benefit both sides.

The Armenian deputy also raised concerns about transit challenges faced by Armenian trucks using Iranian routes to reach Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. He explained that delays in customs procedures, often due to limited or slow information exchange, hinder transport efficiency. Closer cooperation, he argued, would allow Armenia to better utilize Iran’s transit capacities and expedite shipments.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both chambers agreed to set up a direct communication mechanism and appointed representatives to oversee its implementation.

Meanwhile later in another meeting, Bahraman proposed the establishment of a joint committee between Iran and Armenia aimed at strengthening border and customs cooperation and streamlining the issuance of certificates of origin.

Bahraman met with the Deputy Chairman of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee, where he highlighted the importance of accelerating cross-border procedures and addressing challenges related to certificate issuance under the free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Bahraman suggested forming a four-party joint committee comprising the chambers of commerce and customs authorities of both countries to resolve issues concerning certificates of origin as well as other customs and border-related matters. Such meetings, he said, would also allow Iran to become familiar with Armenia’s border investment initiatives and, if needed, design corresponding measures on the Iranian side.

He underlined that strengthening bilateral ties is essential, as Armenia provides Iran with access to Eurasian markets. “Any transparency in border matters benefits both Iranian and Armenian traders,” Bahraman stressed, adding that Iran opposes unlawful practices and welcomes measures that enhance clarity.

“Resolving the problems faced by economic actors is our priority,” he noted. “Strengthening private sector relations between both sides is the goal we are pursuing, and addressing border issues is a key element of expanding economic cooperation.”

Bahraman invited the Armenian delegation to visit Iran to explore business opportunities and participate in joint events, describing Armenia’s investments in its border region as beneficial to trade flows between the two countries.”Communication Mechanism”

Hamed Asgari, Deputy for International Affairs at the Iran Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the importance of utilizing the Green Corridor mechanism—particularly for the transfer of perishable goods—following Iran’s accession to the EAEU. He underscored the need to establish the required infrastructure to enable this, calling it a priority for Iranian traders.

Asgari noted that Armenia’s customs system is already digitized, which could accelerate data exchange and facilitate the electronic issuance of certificates of origin. “It is essential that documentation in this area be processed on digital platforms,” he said. He added that the proposed joint committee could provide a structured framework for addressing potential disputes and further developing cooperation.

Rafael Ghurkian, Deputy Chairman of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Iran. “Relations between the two countries are expanding daily, and the increased level of cooperation at the border is proof of that,” he said.

He pointed out that Armenia has increased investment in border infrastructure and is working to ease the flow of goods and people. He also noted that a recent tender for the construction of a border road was won by an Iranian company, which he described as encouraging.

“Facilitating border control will be tangible for Iranian traders,” Ghurkian remarked, adding that both legal and infrastructural changes are expected to take effect in 2025. He stressed, however, that Armenia would strictly prevent illegal or unauthorized crossings.”Communication Mechanism”

Ghurkian expressed optimism that these measures would further strengthen bilateral cooperation and help expand economic relations.

Iran’s Exports to Armenia Increase in Past Three Months

TEHRAN (Iran News) According to the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture on Saturday, Herovik Yarijanian said that, although the full potential of the agreement has not yet been realized due to the recent war imposed by the Zionist regime against Iran, the mechanism of the deal is moving in a positive direction. “With stability and calm restored, we will certainly achieve favorable results,” he added.

Yarijanian emphasized that greater familiarity among Iranian traders with the Eurasian market and its trade mechanisms is vital for maximizing the benefits of the free trade agreement. He suggested that the government, in cooperation with the Iran Chamber of Commerce and the joint chambers with Armenia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan, should hold a series of regular and well-planned seminars to accelerate the agreement’s outcomes.

The head of the Iran-Armenia Joint Chamber of Commerce also recommended sending and receiving business delegations between Iran and Eurasian member states to strengthen relations more rapidly.

Highlighting Armenia as Iran’s main channel to the Russian market, Yarijanian underscored the need to deepen trade and economic ties. He noted that despite the short time since the Eurasia agreement came into effect, Iran’s exports to Armenia have already recorded a modest increase in recent months.

Iranian Private Sector Poised to Boost Infrastructure in Armenia

TEHRAN (Iran News) Samad Hassanzadeh, the ICCIMA President, highlighted Iran’s considerable potential for collaboration with Armenia. He noted the significance of Armenia’s strategic position within the Eurasian region and the strong cultural and social ties between the two countries, describing Armenia as a key partner for Iran.

“Iran’s private sector is prepared to engage in technical and engineering service exports and to invest in Armenian infrastructure projects,” Hassanzadeh said. “We also see promising opportunities in the medical, pharmaceutical, and healthcare sectors, which could serve as focal points for our cooperation.”

He further outlined Iran’s strengths in various industrial fields, including oil, gas, petrochemicals, automotive manufacturing, food industries, and construction materials. “Iranian products meet high international standards and can meet the needs of the Armenian market,” he added.

In terms of tourism, Hassanzadeh stressed the potential for collaboration, especially in health tourism. He called on Armenia to offer more support and streamline procedures for Iranian tourists visiting the country.

As part of efforts to promote economic exchange, Hassanzadeh announced Iran’s plan to dispatch a business delegation to Armenia this year. He also formally invited the Armenian ambassador to attend Iran Expo 2025, which is set to open on April 28. The international exhibition will showcase Iran’s manufacturing and export capabilities, attracting ambassadors and trade delegations from across the globe.

On the diplomatic front, Hassanzadeh expressed hope for positive outcomes from ongoing Iran-U.S. negotiations, stating that the easing of restrictions would unlock broader trade opportunities with countries around the world.

Armenia’s Ambassador to Iran, Grigor Hovhannisyan (Hakopyan), echoed the sentiments, describing relations with Iran as a top priority for the Armenian government. He underscored the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in economic, political, and cultural domains.

Despite the strong political ties, Hovhannisyan expressed regret that economic relations have not kept pace. “We do not see any limits to deepening our cooperation,” he said. “To begin with, we aim to reach $1 billion in bilateral trade, with a longer-term goal of $3 billion. Achieving this requires more dynamic engagement between our chambers of commerce.”

The ambassador emphasized the crucial role of business delegations in forging stronger ties. “There are abundant investment and joint venture opportunities in Armenia. The embassy is fully prepared to assist Iranian businesses in identifying and exploring these options,” he stated.

He added that Armenian trade delegations will participate in Iran Expo 2025, which will allow them to evaluate investment opportunities and conduct feasibility studies for potential joint projects.

“Private sector involvement is pivotal to the development of Iran-Armenia economic relations,” Hovhannisyan said. He also proposed that the two countries’ chambers of commerce establish joint mechanisms to address trade challenges and streamline cooperation.

The ambassador also highlighted the potential for tourism development between the two nations and called for greater efforts to promote travel and cultural exchange. He pointed out that Iran’s observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the launch of free trade with EAEU member states presents a valuable opportunity for regional cooperation.

“Through joint investments, we can produce goods tailored for export to the Eurasian market,” he suggested.

As both countries look toward a future of deeper economic engagement, the active role of the private sector and the facilitation of joint trade initiatives are expected to be critical in reaching the ambitious target of $3 billion in bilateral trade. The upcoming Iran Expo 2025 will serve as a key milestone in realizing this shared vision.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iranian Transport and Urban Development Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash traveled to Armenia on Monday to meet the country’s senior officials and discuss ways of expanding trade and transit ties between the two countries, IRNA reported.

Speaking to the press prior to the visit, Bazrpash emphasized Iran’s readiness to export technical-engineering services to Armenia, announcing the plan of the two countries to strengthen the level of trade and transit, and remove cumbersome regulations in the way of trade development.

Regarding the objectives of his trip to Armenia, the official pointed out that the two countries have common borders with each other, which is an advantage for both, saying: “During this trip to Armenia, we have based negotiations with political and economic authorities on two axes.”

“The main focus of the negotiations with the Armenian authorities is the development of economic relations and the removal of redundant regulations that hinder the two countries’ trade development. Also, the development of transit is another goal we are pursuing in this trip, because the development of transit is one of the main foundations of the development of economic relations,” he added.

Cooperation between the two countries regarding the issuance of licenses for Iranian airlines, the removal of road tolls, the promotion of cooperation in the framework of the International North-South Transit Corridor (INSTC) and the Persian Gulf-Black Sea Corridor, expanding rail transportation and using Iran’s logistics and port capacities were also among the subjects for negotiations during Bazrpash’s visit to the neighboring country.

Armenia welcomes Iranian companies’ presence in construction, transport projects

In a meeting Between Bazrpash and Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Gnel Sanosyan, the two sides negotiated and agreed on the presence of Iranian companies in the construction and transport projects, the construction of the second bridge at Nordouz terminal, and the holding of a trilateral transit meeting with Georgia.

The Iranian minister emphasized the presence of Iranian companies in the construction and transportation industries, and proposed the elimination of entry and exit tariffs between the two countries to facilitate traffic.

He also proposed the holding of a trilateral meeting between Iran, Georgia, and Armenia to facilitate traffic in the North-South corridor and welcomed the proposal for the construction of a second bridge on the Aras River at the Nordouz border to increase traffic between Iran and Armenia.

The Armenian minister, for his part, said, “We will use the capacity of Iranian companies to build and complete the North-South corridor, and a contract for the construction of a section of the route is ready to be signed with Iranian companies in the field of road construction.”

He welcomed the tripartite transit meeting with Georgia and said, “I will meet with the Georgian minister in the next three days and discuss the issue.”

The official considered the Armenia-Iran-India transit axis important.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Armenian-backed separatist forces in Azerbaijan’s breakaway flashpoint region of Nagorno-Karabakh agreed to a Russian-brokered ceasefire on Wednesday.

The truce comes 24 hours after Azerbaijani forces began a military operation to restore full control of its territory.

Azerbaijan sent a contingent of troops backed by artillery strikes into Karabakh on Tuesday in an attempt to bring the breakaway region back by force, raising the threat of a new war with its neighbor Armenia.

Baku acted after what it called a series of provocations and after some of its troops were killed in what Azerbaijan said were attacks launched by the separatists from the mountainous region, which Azerbaijan had blockaded for nine months.

Azerbaijan’s military operation, which Armenia says left at least 32 people killed and more than 200 injured, was the latest flare-up in the region.

Russian peacekeepers, along with the separatist forces, evacuated thousands of civilians from the fighting.

Armenia says it had not dispatched any forces to Karabakh (despite Azerbaijani assertions) and has not intervened militarily since the Tuesday operations by Baku.

Under the Russian brokered agreement, both sides were to disband and disarm from 1 pm (0900 GMT) on Wednesday.

The agreement also stipulates that talks will start on Thursday to focus on the future of the region and the roughly 120,000 local ethnic Armenian community who reside there.

The Armenian-backed separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh have confirmed that they are committed to the terms of the ceasefire.

In a statement, they said that “with the mediation of the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh, an agreement was reached on the complete cessation of hostilities from 13:00 on September 20, 2023.”

“The authorities of the Republic of Artsakh (using the name of the separatists-run region) accept the proposal from the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent to cease fire,” the statement added.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry confirmed it had reached an agreement on a truce deal and has concluded its military operation.

The ministry added that the Armenian separatist forces in Karabakh had agreed to “lay down their weapons, abandon combat positions and military posts and completely disarm”, and that all weapons and heavy equipment were being transferred to the Azerbaijani army.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said it was “very important” that the ceasefire hold, adding that Yerevan “did not participate in drafting” the ceasefire deal.

The latest hostilities come three years after Azerbaijan recaptured large portions of territory in and around Nagorno-Karabakh in a brief war with Armenia.

The new development could pave the way for Azerbaijan to integrate the ethnic Armenians into its society and to take full control of the mountainous area.

Analysts say there may now be a large exodus from Karabakh to Armenia, but this is still unclear and remains to be seen.

Analysts have praised Russia for its years-long attempts to restore peace to a region that has seen two wars between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the past three decades.

Regional countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, have repeatedly pushed for a peaceful resolution of the conflict between the two sides and respect each other’s territorial integrity.

Despite the desire by the United States to create as much trouble for Russia as possible, Moscow appears to have ended another spiral of violence in a highly volatile region. Without Moscow’s peacekeeping, the ramifications could have led to another deadly conflict.

A previous ceasefire agreement brokered by Russia not so long ago was largely holding with the exception of occasional flare-ups.

Some analysts have accused the West of interfering in the region, but by the same token, they have praised the stance of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia to swiftly end the fighting. Azerbaijan was capable of fully taking over the entire Nagorno-Karabakh with military force.
