Arsalan Zare also announced that 300 idle units are planned to return to the production cycle in this year.

The official further said that 200 new production units were set up in the province during the previous year.

As announced last week by Deputy Industry, Mining, and Trade Minister Mehdi Sadeqi Niaraki, 1,500 idle industrial units have been revived in the country during the past year.

According to Niaraki, over 6,500 new industrial units were also established across the country during the mentioned year which created jobs for over 121,000 people.

Touching upon the Industry Ministry’s plans for the realization of the motto of the current year which is named the year of “Production: support and the elimination of obstacles” by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the official said: “In the year that has been dedicated to the production sector by the Leader of the revolution, the orientation of all government organizations and executive bodies should be towards supporting the country’s industrial and mining units.”

Niaraki pointed to a 40-percent increase in the issuance of establishment licenses for industrial units in the previous year, saying: “The number of establishment licenses increased to more than 36,000 last year, which shows that people are encouraged to invest in the productive sectors.”

He also mentioned an 85-percent rise in the allocation of land for establishing industrial units across the country and noted that over 4,500 hectares of land were handed over to applicants in the previous calendar year.

According to the official, there are over 46,000 small and medium-sized industrial units in Iran’s industrial parks and zones, of them about 9,200 units are inactive.

Iran’s industrial parks play a significant role in making the country independent through boosting production, which is a major strategy of Iran to combat the U.S. sanctions.

In fact, strengthening domestic production to achieve self-reliance is the most important program that Iran is following up in its industry sector in a bid to nullify the effects of the U.S. sanctions on its economy.

In this due, the current Iranian calendar year (began on March 21) has been named the year of “Production: support and the elimination of obstacles”, and all governmental bodies, as well as the private sector, are moving in line with the materialization of this motto.

Regarding its significant role in the realization of the mentioned goal, the Industry, Mining, and Trade Ministry has already defined its main programs for supporting domestic production in the current year.

In this regard, the development of industrial parks and supporting the units located in these areas is one of the major programs underway by the ministry.

He added that textile industry due to its background and successful history in the national industry has been paid special heed by other nations and as the result the ministry pays special attention to it.

Rahmani added that apparels have been of those products whose amount of contraband has declined significantly, adding that fortunately the statistics indicate good growth in exports of national apparel industry last year comparing to the preceding year and it showed 21 percent growth.

He noted that due to the programs of the ministry, indexes in some parts of the industry in the country have grown and pointed to the statistics for exports.

He went on to say that production of thread has grown by 10% while the production of textile has grown by 24 percent and the growth in production of blanket witnessed 252% and the growth for production of machine woven carpet and floor covering has been around 10%.

He went on to say that activists in the apparel industry have announced readiness to fully cut imports of apparel.

Rahmani went on to say that the government has plans to indigenize some imported industrial commodities worth over $10b by 2020.

He added that all problems of the industries can be solved by domestic forces, noting that the volume of exports in the neighboring states is over $1300b annually and the country needs planning to take advantage of this opportunity in favor of its industry.

He also said that the ministry’s program is to indigenize imported commodities by 2020 and it will save over $1.2b only in the apparel industry.

He enumerated the major reasons for the fall in the quality of cloths in the country and incapability of competition with their foreign rivals, saying that lack of specialty of the owners of the production units, using low quality of materials and ignoring the specialist clothing designers are of the major challenges of the national clothing industry which has caused the industry not to grow significantly in the country.

Mahallati Rayni reiterated that unfortunately profit orientation among the producers of apparel producers would lead to only mass production and mere imitation from western models rather than using designers to design clothes in compliance of local models and Iranian culture and it will be a blow to the body of apparel industry in the country.

He then pointed to the negative consequences of imitation and copying the western style in the domestic apparel production, adding that imitation from western styles will weaken the national culture and identity, reiterating that all nations try to protect their traditional dressings.

Mahallati Rayni also deplored lack of specialized and scientific and educational centers for fashion designing and called it a weakness.

He also said that sanctions have led to fall in the imports of Chinese apparels and cloths and the government can strengthen this industry by removing challenges. He also said that copy right is another weakness of the industry in the country.
