According to reports, the Yemeni army launched a fresh retaliatory attack against Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern region of Asir, using two domestically-manufactured Qasef-2K (Striker-2K) combat drones.

The spokesman for Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said in a brief statement posted on his Twitter page that the unmanned aerial vehicles struck the designated military targets at the airport with great precision on Thursday noon.

He added that the airstrikes come within Yemen’s legitimate right to respond to the Saudi-led coalition’s devastating military campaign and all-out blockade.

The development took place only three days after Yemeni army forces and their allied fighters struck the same Saudi airport.

Earlier this month, Yemen’s army troops and allied fighters from Popular Committees also carried out a drone strike on King Khalid Air base near the Saudi city of Khamis Mushait.

The Saudis are busy issuing facile denials of heavy defeats on the front line, and at the same time, fabricating feats for their crestfallen forces, signaling that they are at the end of their tether.

Brigadier General Saree tweeted at the time that the Yemeni forces hit sensitive targets inside the major air base.

Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network quoted the Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman as saying that the retaliatory attack was launched by a domestically-manufactured Qasef-2K (Striker-2K) combat drone.

The strike was “accurate,” and came in response to the continuing aggression and brutal siege on Yemen, he said.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the U.S. and regional allies, launched a devastating war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing popular Ansarullah movement.

Efforts to bring the Yemeni forces to the negotiation table have been in vain so far because Yemenis want a full ceasefire and respecting their rights by the West and the international bodies and they will not spoil their fight for independence by accepting the West’s deceptive proposals which are to rescue the Saudi-backed coalition forces.

A high-ranking Omani government delegation visited the Yemeni capital last week, and held talks with the Ansarullah leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi.

Yemeni armed forces and allied Popular Committees have, however, gone from strength to strength against the Saudi-led invaders, and left Riyadh and its allies bogged down in the country.

The Saudi war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead, and displaced millions more. The war has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases across the Arab country.

Yemeni people in their almost six-year long struggle have proved the world if there is a will, there will a way and for this reason they will fight for their independence till the last moment because they have the Muslim world backing and they are a model for uprising against tyranny and colonialism.

Recent attacks on the Saudi Arabian facilities have shown some part of Yemeni forces’ power and in the future they can show more if the atrocities of the invaders and foreign forces continue.

Resistance against occupying countries and lackey elements are the only solution for the success and happiness of a nation that Yemenis have chosen it and are ready to die for their cause and the world specially the countries which claim supporting the human rights should accept and respect it.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been supportive of countries and nations who fight for their independence as it has experienced it in the 1970s against the Pahlavi regime. This support is mainly spiritual despite the claims of the Western countries which accusing Iran of arming the Yemeni forces.

Yemeni people’s strong determination to fight against the invasions is the strongest and most powerful weapon of Yemenis which can bring down any enemy and thwart any plot and attacks.

In a tweet on Friday, Mohammed Abdul-Salam said that Yemen does not consider as serious any call for peace that excludes the total removal of the current blockade on the war-torn country.

“We do not consider any call for peace as serious unless it includes the complete lifting of the blockade. However, we have not yet noticed any seriousness to stop the aggression,” he said.

“The calls for peace issued by some international bodies reveal a selective perception of peace by granting it to the countries of aggression and preventing it from Yemen, while peace is either for all or there is no peace,” Abdul-Salam added.

Earlier, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths had said that a political solution is the only possible way to the persisting conflict in the Arab country, and Abdul-Salam had lambasted him for being, in fact, the spokesman of the Saudi-led military coalition and that he did not resemble an unbiased international official.

All international efforts to end the aggression against the Arab country have so far failed.

Saudi Arabia has been the main recipient of US weapons over the past years.

The popular Ansarullah movement, backed by the Yemeni armed forces and allied popular groups, has gone from strength to strength against the Saudi-led invaders, and successfully defended Yemen, leaving Riyadh and its allies bogged down in the county.

With an all-out blockade on Yemen in place since the onset of the bloody war, the country is witnessing the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, according to the UN.

The sea, land, and air siege from, among others, has led to the closure of the Sana’a International Airport, the largest and most important airport in Yemen, and closed the Hudaydah port, which acts as a lifeline for the impoverished nation.

In a message sent to the President of European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on Saturday, al-Mashat said the Houthi Ansarullah movement welcomed a recent call by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to end the Saudi-led aggression against the impoverished Arab country, Yemen, with a political solution, Saba news agency reported.

Al-Mashat said the Council expects the EU to play a positive role in halting the Saudi-led coalition attacks.

In a statement in late March, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths said the UN is particularly concerned about continuing military activities in Ma’rib and its surroundings and urged the warring parties to end hostilities and reach a ceasefire agreement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the Saudi war has claimed more than 100,000 lives in Yemen since it began in March 2015.

The UN says over 24 million Yemeni nationalities are now in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger and diseases threatening their lives.

As part of Iran’s constant consultations about Yemen, Khaji held a video conversation with Abdul-Salam on Saturday.

In the conversation, Abdul-Salam praised Iran for its humanitarian assistance as well as political and spiritual support for the people of Yemen, expressed the Yemeni National Salvation Government’s readiness to achieve a fair political consensus, and briefed the Iranian diplomat on the latest political and on-the-ground developments in Yemen.

For his part, the Iranian diplomat stressed that the solution to the crisis in Yemen is a political agreement entailing an end to the war, complete removal of the blockade on sea, land and air routes in Yemen, and the resumption of Yemeni-Yemeni talks, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

In an interview with Al Mayadeen TV, the political adviser in Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, Mohamed Abdul Elah Hajar, stressed that the Ansarullah movement favors stability and peace in Yemen, and pursues efforts to end the Saudi aggression, remove the blockade imposed on the country, reopen the Sana’a airport, and make sure government employees receive their salaries.

Pointing to Saudi Arabia’s attempts to make contact with Ansarullah Spokesman Mohammad Abdulsalam, Hajar said Riyadh has been liaising with the Ansarullah movement since the beginning of the talks related to Yemen peace proposal via its envoy.

He also noted that Ansarullah’s peace initiative has been welcomed by the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths and by several states, describing peace as the preferred option that must be pursued to relieve the pains of Yemeni people and end the war.

Saudi Arabia perceives major internal and foreign threats in peace, and is afraid that taking steps for peace would mark a defeat for the kingdom, Hajar added.

The official also made it clear that Ansarullah will be prepared for defense if the peace offer is rejected.

In September, President of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat said the Houthi forces would end all attacks on Saudi Arabia provided that the kingdom and its allies ended their attacks on Yemen.

He also hoped that “the gesture would be answered by a stronger gesture” from the Saudis.

The Houthi proposal came a week after Yemeni strikes on Saudi Arabia’s oil installations, which knocked out half of the kingdom’s production.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

“Ansarullah is a mutated branch of the (Islamic) Revolution,” he said, adding, “Today, they are an accumulated source of power that, if released, will change the whole battlefield and the enemy knows this reality.”

The IRGC commander further rejected the allegations and emphasized that Iran has no fear of the enemy and would have said it bravely if it had carried out the attacks.

“Did we not say (we had downed) the (US) drone?” he asked, referring to the IRGC move to shoot down an American spy drone that had violated the Iranian territories.

The remarks came as the leaders of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron, and Boris Johnson, took the US line on the attacks on Saudi oil facilities, saying in a joint statement after meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, “It is clear for us that Iran bears responsibility for this attack. There is no other explanation.”

In response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns and dismisses the irresponsible claims made by the heads of Britain, France and Germany about the attacks by the Yemeni government’s Armed Forces on the Saudi (oil) facilities, and stresses that holding a third-party government accountable for strikes that have occurred during a full-blown war between the Saudi and Yemeni parties and for which the Yemeni side has formally claimed responsibility, is per se a provocative and highly destructive measure, let alone that such a measure has been taken before any investigations, without providing any clue and proof, and has been only based upon the ridiculous justification that ‘There is no other explanation’.”

The Yemeni forces on September 14 launched drone attacks on two plants at the heart of Saudi Arabia’s oil industry, including the world’s biggest petroleum processing facility.

The attacks came in retaliation for the Saudi-led coalition’s continued aggression on the Arabian Peninsula country.

Ansarullah Movement Leader Abdulmalek al-Houthi made a speech on Saturday night, touching upon different issues, including relations with Tehran. He highlighted that Yemen is keen on re-establishing diplomatic ties with Iran.

Enemies are trying to cut Yemen’s relations with other regional countries, he said, adding that the only country which clearly voiced support for Yemen after the aggression was Iran.

Al-Houthi said that implementing previous agreements with Iran benefits the Yemeni people, noting that there were some 70 agreements signed between the two countries before the revolution.

The Houthi leader reiterated that Sana’a will improve ties with Tehran as they are based on common grounds, especially the support for the Palestinian issue, and confrontation with the Israeli regime.

Elsewhere in his remarks in the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his condolences and congratulations on the martyrdom of Ibrahim al-Houthi, brother of the leader of Ansarollah Houthi Abdul-Malik al-Houthi.

The Leader also hailed the resistance of Yemeni people against foreign aggression and predicted a bright future for the Yemeni nation.

He went on to condemn the western countries’ turning a blind eye on crimes in Yemen and Palestine, describing resistance with reliance on Allah’s help as the only way ahead.

Also in the meeting, the head of the Yemeni described the leadership of Ayatollah Khamenei as in the continuation of the Velayat of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Imam Ali (AS) and Imam Khomeini (RA).

Expressing his gratitude for the support of the Leader of the Islamic Republic for the oppressed nations, especially the oppressed Yemeni nation, Mohammad Abdul Salam said that the Yemeni nation’s resistance will continue until final victory.

The movement’s unilateral pullout from the ports, used for grain, oil, commerce and aid, was the most significant advance yet for efforts to end the four-year-old Saudi war on Yemen.

In December, the Houthis and the ex-government in met in Sweden and agreed to a ceasefire and troop withdrawal deal for Hudaydah. Under phase one, the Houthis pulled out of the Red Sea ports of Hudaydah, Saleef and Ras Isa last month.

Lieutenant General Michael Lollesgaard, who heads the UN monitoring mission in Hudaydah, said in a statement that regular UN patrols had not detected a Houthi military presence in the three ports since May 14, Reuters reported.

He said coast guard forces were providing port security, but the United Nations could not yet confirm if the coast guard was operating at the agreed strength of 450.

Lollesgaard said Houthi military installations and equipment had been removed from Saleef and Ras Isa, but largely remained in Hudaydah. He called on the Houthis to “expeditiously complete the removal of all military manifestations, including trenches as part of their commitment to the process.”

Hudaydah is Yemen’s main port and a lifeline for millions of Yemenis on the brink of starvation, a situation exacerbated by restricted imports of food and other supplies due to the war.

The Houthi withdrawal from the ports is due to be met by a retreat of Saudi-led coalition forces from the eastern outskirts of Hudaydah, facilitating humanitarian access to grain stores at the Red Sea Mills.

Lollesgaard said last month that a phase one withdrawal by ex-government and coalition forces would not take place until the warring parties had worked out details for a broader phase two redeployment around Hudaydah and agreed on local forces to secure the area.

He called on all parties on Wednesday to finalize negotiations to allow for the full implementation of phases one and two of the Hudaydah deal.
