Iran’s Persepolis Beats Qatari Al-Sadd in 2020 ACL

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Persepolis football team defeated Qatari giant Al-Sadd 1-0 to book a place at the 2020 AFC Champions League quarter-finals.

Persepolis edged Xavi’s Al-Sadd 1-0 on Sunday thanks to Issa Alekasir’s 88th minute goal, Tasnim reported.

Persepolis defender Siamak Nemati was sent off in the 90th minute.

Persepolis joins Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli Saudi FC and Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals, with the draw scheduled for Monday.

Al-Nassr and Al-Taawoun SC square off in an all-Saudi affair in the last of the Round of 16 ties later on Sunday.

The quarter-finals matches will be held on Wednesday.

Persepolis midfielder Kamyabinia fit for Al Sadd match

Persepolis defensive midfielder Kamal Kamyabinia will be ready for the vital match against Al Sadd of Qatar.

The Iranian giants are to host Al Sadd on Tuesday in the return leg of the AFC Champions League semi-finals.

Kamyabinia suffered a shoulder injury on Thursday in the match against Navad Urmia in Iran’s Hazfi Cup and was rushed to the hospital.

Persepolis medical staff had already said Kamyabinia may miss the match against the Qatari football team.

His absence could be a huge blow for Persepolis since the Reds have already missed their experienced defender Hossein Mahini due to a torn ACL suffered in Tehran derby against Esteghlal.

Persepolis of Iran football team earned a remarkable 1-0 win over Qatari giants Al Sadd in the first leg of the AFC Champions League semi-finals.

In the match held in Doha’s Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Ali Alipour was on target from the penalty spot in the 86th minute.

Persepolis won the match without their three key players. Kamal Kamyabinia and Mohammad Ansari were suspended and Hossein Mahini has missed the rest of the season due to knee injury.

Al Sadd and Persepolis had met in the AFC Champions League for the very first time in this year’s group stages. Both sides won their respective home games.

Al Sadd have reached the AFC Champions League semi-finals for the second time after 2011, when they eventually went on to win the competition.

The two sides will now lock horns again on October 23 at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran for the second leg, which will decide who gets to play in the final of the AFC Champions League.

Kashima Antlers of Japan will host South Korean Suwon Samsung Bluewings on Wednesday in East Region.

Al Sadd coach Jesualdo Ferreira says that to book a place in the final match of the 2018 AFC Champions League is like a dream for them.

Al Sadd will host Persepolis in the first leg of the AFC Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.

“In the match with Persepolis, we should be wary of conceding a goal in our home match. We know that how strong Persepolis are. Our goal is to defeat Persepolis with many goals as well as not conceding a goal. We know that Al Sadd will have a difficult task in the second leg in Tehran,” Ferreira said in the pre-match news conference.

“We played Persepolis twice in the group stage but we know that they are a better team at the moment. To book a place in the final match is like a dream for us,” the Portuguese coach added.

Al Sadd and Persepolis met in the AFC Champions League for the very first time in this year’s group stages. Both sides won their respective home games.

Qatari Al Sadd beats Iranian Esteghlal in AFC Champions League semi-finals

The Iranian Esteghlal football team faced Qatari side Al Assad in Tehran this evening and suffered a humiliating defeat.

Playing in front of 80,000-capacity Azadi Stadium in Tehran, the Qatari Al Assad easily defeated his giant Iranian rival 3 to 1 in the first leg of the AFC Champions league quarter-finals.

Esteghlal ended the first half of the match 1-0 thanks to an own goal, but soon after the second half started it received 3 goals, one of which was on a penalty kick.

ACL: Persepolis Eyes Finish Table-Topper in Group C

Iran’s Persepolis can finish as table-topper in Group C of the 2018 AFC Champions League if it overcomes Al Sadd of Qatar at Azadi Stadium on Monday.

The Iranian side has won both of its home games and secured its place in the next round following a scoreless draw away at Nasaf two weeks ago.

Al Sadd currently occupyies first position and two more goals from striker Baghdad Bounedjah in a 2-1 victory over Al Wasl in early April confirmed a place in the last 16, the-afc.com wrote.

The host, who is without the suspended Shojae Khalilzadeh and injured Mohsen Rabikhah, drew 1-1 with Pars Jam Bushehr on Wednesday although it has already been crowned Iranian champion.

Al Sadd earned a 9-1 victory over Al Kharitiyath just over a week ago as it brought a poor recent domestic run to an end. The Qatari giant will be without the suspended Abdelkarim Hassan.

ACL: Iran’s Persepolis beaten by Al Sadd of Qatar

TEHRAN – Persepolis football team of Iran suffered a 3-1 defeat against Al Sadd of Qatar in Group C of the AFC Champions League.

Baghdad Boundjah gave Al Sadd a lead with a header from the center of the box to the top left corner in the 36th minute.

Boundjah was on target once again in the 56th minute after receiving a pass from Xavi into the box.

Boualem Khoukhi scored Al Sadd’s third goal in the 66th minute following dreadful mistakes by Persepolis’s defenders.

Substitute Siamak Nemati scored a consolation goal for Persepolis in the dying moments of the match.

Al Sadd move top of the table with six points, followed by Persepolis (three points), Nasaf (three points) and Al Wasl (without point).

Persepolis will host Al Wasl of the UAE on March 5, while Al Sadd travel to Qarshi to face Nasaf.
