Tehran, Ankara to Launch Passenger Train Services by Late June
TEHRAN- Iran and Turkey will start train services for passengers who want to commute between both countries by end of June.

Deputy of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Mr. Mir-Hassan Mousavi yesterday reiterated that the train services between Tehran and Turkey’s city of Van will start on June 25 and services between Tehran and Turkey’s Ankara will begin on June 27.

Mousavi who was speaking at a presser yesterday said that details for ticket sale will be announced soon.

He said the trains will have four-tier wagons for passengers and they will be four-star trains and they will work, for the time being, based on a trip per week and in case it is welcomed by passengers, the number of trips would double weekly or even daily.

Mousavi went on to say that the price of each ticket for Ankara will be 43 euros as the average travel time will be around 60 hours while the ticket price for the city of Van is around 20 euros and the average travel time will be 20 hours.

He noted that Iranian passengers who want to go to Ankara will go to Van by Iranian trains and after crossing the Van Lake by ferry, they will continue their travel to Ankara by Turkish trains.

Mousavi reiterated that since 2016, the company has prioritized quality of its services as the number of passengers has increased significantly in the past two years. He asserted that last year around 28 million passengers were transported by train services which indicate a 14-percent growth.

He went on to say that the company has begun working on the services for passengers and it has decided to increase the number of hostesses for trains.

On the delay for trains, he said that after study and planning, the average delay for passenger trains has been around 30 minutes for distances over 600 kilometers and it will cut down to 20 minutes. He also reiterated that the delay for departure of trains from stations is about 20 seconds on average.

Mousavi went on to say that the price for tickets for domestic passenger trains has increased by 22 percent and in some destinations the increase will be around 30 percent.
