Head of the office of cold-weathered and dry fruits at the Ministry of Agriculture Shokrollah Hajivand said that about 700,000 tons of high-quality apple has been exported since the past Iranian fiscal year up (from March 20, 2017 to May 20, 2018).
It is predicted that this horticultural product will experience a considerable decline in terms of production in the current year due to frost events, he maintained.
He put the volume of apple exported in the past Iranian calendar year in 1395 (ended March 20, 2017) at 354,000 tons, and 604,000 tons by the end of the last year in 1396 (ended March 20, 2018).
Therefore, about 700,000 tons of high-quality apple was exported to various countries in the world in the past year, Hajivand said.
Of 3.7 million tons of apple produced in the country in the past year, 700,000 tons has been exported, he said, adding, “this year, more than 678,000 hectares of land allocated to horticultural products suffered from frost events.”
Hajivand reiterated, “in addition to meeting domestic demand, it is predicted that Iran will have considerable export volumes of high-quality apple to other countries in the current year.”
