Iran-Afghanistan Trade Volume Increases by 84%
TEHRAN - The Commercial Counselor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Afghanistan announced an 84% increase in trade and commercial exchanges between Iran and Afghanistan in 2024 compared to 2023, highlighting the ongoing growth in bilateral trade over the past two years.

TEHRAN (Iran News) Hossein Roustaei stated on Saturday that based on statistical reports from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the trade volume between Iran and Afghanistan reached $3.197 billion in the previous year, reflecting an 84% value growth compared to 2023.

Roustaei noted that Afghanistan’s imports from Iran in 2024 exceeded $3.143 billion, a significant rise from $1.714 billion in 2023, marking more than 83% growth in Iran’s non-oil exports to Afghanistan.

He added that Afghanistan’s exports to Iran also saw substantial growth, reaching $54 million in 2024—a $29 million increase, representing approximately 116% growth compared to 2023.

Key Iranian exports to Afghanistan during this period included light oils and petroleum products, petroleum gases, iron and steel billets, polyethylene compounds, natural gas, poultry eggs, non-velvet woven carpets, urea, light and heavy hydrocarbons, cement, aluminum cans, potatoes, shoes, preforms, tomatoes, various tiles and ceramics, tomato paste, apples, polyethylene types, powdered milk, bitumen, and agricultural tractors.

Roustaei also identified major Afghan exports to Iran as barley, animal feed corn, mineral stones, lead billets, iron or steel rolls, cocoa butter substitutes, aromatic plants for the perfume industry, sunflower seeds, cotton, wild rue, peanuts, dried fruits, chili peppers, mung beans, sesame seeds, turmeric, live sheep, and various legumes.

According to official statistics from Iran’s Customs Administration, Afghanistan currently ranks as the fifth-largest destination for Iranian exports.
