Iran Now an Exporter of Furniture
Head of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (TCCIMA) says Iran once an importer of furniture has now turned into a furniture exporting country.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Head of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (TCCIMA) says Iran once an importer of furniture has now turned into a furniture exporting country.

On Wednesday, Head of TCCIMA Mr. Mahmoud Najafi Arab inaugurated the 32rd International Specialized Export Exhibition of Furniture Industry at the Tehran Permanent International Fairground in presence of activists of this industry.

In this 4-day event over 250 production units of Iran’s furniture industry have participated where they have put on display their products.

In the opening ceremony, Head of TCCIMA Mr. Najafi Arab pointed to the place of furniture industry in the national job creation based on the statistics noting that furniture industry accounts for almost 10% of occupation in the country and emphasized easing business and activities in this industry and reminded that furniture production of the country has this capacity to have a lion share of Iran’s non-oil exports.

He urged the related bodies to support this industry in order that furniture producers to have colorful presence in the export markets. He added that Iran once furniture importer has now become an exporting country.

Meanwhile on sidelines of opening ceremony head of furniture producers and exporters association Mr. Hassan Ahmadian pointed to the exports of home and office furniture of Iran and said it can earn over $500m per year, reiterating that two decades ago Iran used to import annually some $400m of furniture and this is almost being zeroed and Iran’s production and industrial unit in this industry just needs to provide some part of their raw materials and import it and this industry has earned some $80m of forex for the country through the exports.

He reiterated that if the condition is facilitated for this business in the country, Iran can export furniture to countries like Iraq, the UAE, Qatar, Azerbaijan and Armenia as well as the Central Asian states.
